Many thanks to Kialara and a big shout out to all those who have donated to the project in past auctions!

The money raised from this auction will fund continued development of Haven’s solar powered wireless sensor device that is helping monitor internal Haven hive conditions in real time. The first prototype was installed at the Kansas City Zoo last summer and has been working great.

Here are some photos of a hive installed last fall at Powell Gardens (It was completely funded by generous bitcoin donations.) Also, some photos of the new hive sensor installation at the zoo and a couple thank you gift items.

As thank you gifts for your bidding I’m including a photograph printed on an 8” x 10” matte finish archival paper of a honeybee gathering nectar from a Silver Lace flower in my yard and a small jar of organic crystallized wildflower honey from my friend’s local beekeeping operation.

I’m just taking a break from preparing a Haven hive for installation and got a message from Max that I should check out the latest auction results. What a great reason to press pause on work!

Ty, I loved reading about your grandfather. Your descriptions of his character are very similar to my immigrant grandparents. They were both from farming families and after immigrating to the U.S. continued to maintain incredible vegetable gardens. It is their legacy of beekeeping passed down to me from my mother that has translated into my creation of the Haven project!

Many years ago I spent a summer living with a family in Italy and while I never made it to Scanno I absolutely loved my time there and the local passion for fresh food and of course honey. Thank you so much to your girlfriend’s family for donating a jar of their precious nectar to the auction. Maybe someday I will travel back and have a chance visit their town. (Ticked, you’re right! one of the best parts of beekeeping is tasting the various flavors of honey as the season progresses and the local flowers providing nectar change.)

And of course a big shout out to Hhampuz for for picking up the slack and hosting the final days of the auction. THAT is the essence of community and how the bees would do it!

The donation to Haven is most appreciated and perhaps most important to me is knowing that there are people out there who aren’t willing to give up working to make the world a better place. We can’t let humanity become overwhelmed or disinterested in addressing our biggest ecological challenges.

We are at a crucial juncture on many environmental fronts and I think we need to reimagine what our future can be and act with an inspired long term vision in mind. We shouldn’t merely settle for damage control but rather endeavor to support a flourishing planet.
