What is the opposite of "antifragile" (like bitcoin)? Because reading BitChick's post, I'm led to believe that religion is the opposite of antifragile. The more you try to fix, the worse it gets.

I just hope this time those in power actually keep their word, instead of using this agreement as another delaying tactic. It's good to know what Yischinko has lost so much power and support among his peers in parliament.

Maybe some day I'll actually feel that my home is safe enough to visit again. I haven't been back since I left in 1989 Sad
1003  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Revolution in Ukraine. Please donate to Ukrainian people on: February 22, 2014, 02:58:48 AM
Besides, I still fail to get how can bitcoins help these people: are there arms dealers accepting bitcoins?

Ukrainians can use BTC-e to convert bitcoins to dollars, and use them for things like food, water, and transportation. With the current events, some people are not able to work, or travel around the city, and need financial help to survive.

If you really want to help the Ukrainians, go over there and tell them about anarchy, for that is the true solution they are seeking.

Considering many of them are upset about failing social services and pensions, I don't think anarchy is what they are looking for.
1004  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Study: Everyone hates environmentalists and feminists on: February 22, 2014, 02:56:42 AM
Parity is wrong. Women are not equal to men, that does not mean they are inferior. Just let people do things they can do good.

I disagree. For the most part, I think they are equal, or rather the ranges of "womenism" greatly overlap the ranges of "manism" with only minor bits on the fringes of the ranges being actually different. I think majority of the difference between men and women comes from nurture - the way they are raised and the culture they grow up in. Boys and girls are treated differently by their parents from birth, typically following established stereotypes, and the effect is compounded when boys and girls form groups in preschool and school, where they combine and magnify the effects of those stereotypes. In any case, any scientific result claiming that they are similar or different is likely so tainted by our culture as to be worthless.

Not sure it's good to make some people uncomfortable by having them take down their Star Trek posters, just to make someone who is not into that culture feel more comfortable. Wouldn't it be better to get women into Star Trek and videogames instead? I say we need more nerd women, not force our nerd men to be less nerdy Tongue

Nerd women are hot. But that's just me.

It is very very much not just you.
1005  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Atheism does not exist on: February 22, 2014, 02:44:23 AM
The Higgs Boson particle was theorized in 1964 but humanity lacked the technology to verify it's existence. It took scientists 49 years to develop the knowledge base that allowed for the verification of this particle. The existence of this particle was therefore un-falsifiable from the time is was theorized until the time when the technology was developed that allowed it to be verified and observed.

That's not what unfalsifiable means (and I suspect you know that). Even if we had no means or tools for getting for the Higgs Boson at the time, we knew what kind of tests could be done to disprove, or falsify it. Regardless of technological ability, everything in science can be proven wrong with the discovery of something that contradicts established theory. God is unfalsifiable, because there is nothing that we can discover that will disprove god. He could always be just out of reach, just like pink unicorns.

None of those questions s are interesting, BTW, since as of yet, none of them have any bearing on our lives or reality. One might as well ask "Do fairies shit in Avalon?"
1006  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Atheism does not exist on: February 22, 2014, 02:34:22 AM
With the verification of the Higgs Boson particle; we now know that our Universe has a finite lifespan. As time reaches infinity the Universe will no longer be able to bond atoms together, and then when all the atoms have been broken down, the subatomic particles will fall apart. Everything that once existed will no longer exist in it's current observable state. The result will be a new big bang and a new Universe formed with new matter. Quantum tunneling will cause propagation at various central points all moving relatively together. Time will not exist as it's a non-linear function with no observers moving at un-relative speeds.

The matter within the Universe will become mass-less; the energy is converted to velocity (galaxies are speeding up) and the physical laws of our universe will become null. Without the interaction of the Higgs Field, all atoms will burst into the subatomic particles that compose them.

Fuck that's depressing. Might throw a wrench into my future plans of getting a rickety old cargo hauler space ship and taking up a life of space piracy Sad

Do you know of any sources to your claim? Not disputing, just want to read up some more.
1007  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet on: February 22, 2014, 02:25:43 AM
Do you plan on supporting BIP 70-73, and when?

Planning eventually, since everyone will be using it eventually, but not any time soon. First we have to finish LocalTrader, then we need to add BIP32 HD wallets, then we can focus of 70-73.
1008  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Revolution in Ukraine. Please donate to Ukrainian people on: February 21, 2014, 04:39:41 AM
I do not know if I can trust whoever is collecting this money. Is it going to ukrainians who want to take down oppressive government? Is it going to ukrainians who want to set up their own nationalistic oppressive government? Is it a scam where someone will take this money and run? How can we check?
1009  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Meanwhile in Ukraine... Revolution. on: February 21, 2014, 04:29:46 AM
Lanochka, do you know Maksim Plakhtiy?

Personally - no.
I  hear about Maksim Plakhiy  (https://www.facebook.com/maxim.plakhtiy) (Hi is coordinator of IT tent on the maidan).

I have found the BTC code for donation from VK gropp in contacts (I've sent some money for that adress), see here: http://vk.com/topic-62043361_29342502  I can`t to contact to administrators of the VK groupp, but this is official groupp of Pravyy Sector.

Maksim and I grew up together practically in the same коляска. Our moms were close friends, and we were born at about the same time, and were friends growing up. So he is the only one I trust there, and since he helps with IT, I figure he would be best to handle cryptocurrency donations. Though that could also put him at risk.
I don't know who ПРАВИЙ СЕКТОР is, or if the people running it can be trusted.

Do not send your bitcoins to Maidan. Do not support terrorism!

It is only terrorism when someone is trying to terrorize the people. It is not terrorism when someone is trying to terrorize the government. Governments should be afraid of their people, not the other way around.

I guess I'll just start calling "Peace&Love" hippies, and organizations trying to legalize pot, "Nazis," because what's in a name, right?

Lanochka, do you know Maksim Plakhtiy?

If there are concerns about people donating bitcoin, if you can work together with him, I can vouch for you and accept coins on your behalf, sending them to you and Maks as soon as I get them. I'm somewhat well known here, so maybe could help (for free of course).
1012  Other / Off-topic / Re: Totally Off-Topic! on: February 20, 2014, 10:38:08 PM
Phinnaeus Gage is spending his whole life on the forum.
Discuss.

That is noow so meta, it makes him on topic for this forum. So no.
1013  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Palin on: February 20, 2014, 10:34:09 PM
Maybe, though I doubt much of her statements and interviews were taken out of context. In my eyes, she proved that she was an idiot by opening her mouth. (In my ears?)

It's likely a lot easier to inflame and smear if someone has a back country accent.

Seems to be an acceptable form of prejudice, you think?

It wasn't the accent that she said it with, it was what she said. Things about her interests, what books or news she reads, her opinions on things. She's not a very, um, "worldly" person.

Applying about 20 molotov cocktails to an armored vehicle makes it flamable.

And this poor dolt is supposed to be telling me about economics, when I've earned more in a month from software businesses I launched than apparently he has earned in his entire lifetime.

Yes, that is exactly what I want you and everyone else who gets too curious about my net worth and finances to think.

You, on the other hand, feel free to keep bragging about how much you;ve made and how wealthy you are. Right up to the point where some people decide to come take some of it Smiley
1016  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: CoinJoin: Bitcoin privacy for the real world on: February 20, 2014, 10:19:08 PM
What about adding this into server based clients with matching via the server? (Electrum, Blockchain.info, Mycelium...)
And make them to not store the logs?
That would probably be the quickest way to get whoever run these servers arrested by US nazi law enforcement (aka national security services) - at some airport somewhere in the world... Smiley

I think Mycelium has CoinJoin as one of the things on their future To Do list. If not, I'll add it  Grin

I'm just glad that China, Russia, and Mt. Gox were nice enough to let us party when it's nice and warm outside.
1019  Economy / Economics / Re: A Resource Based Economy on: February 20, 2014, 06:58:42 AM
Uh, wasn't Enron an example of regulatory failure? They gamed the regulatory system, bribed the regulators who were supposed to keep them in check, and convinced everyone that everything was OK, because everyone got too dependent on believing regulators. If it wasn't for regulations surrounding Enron, we may not have trusted them as much, would have demanded audits by companies whose reputation was on the line (how badly did US regulator reputation get damaged after that debacle?), and chances are what happened at Enron may not have had the chance to happen in the first place.

http://www.biketempe.org/ looks fine, but please don't consider sending them 2X endowment if they happen to send you a pics similar to...  Grin

$1,000 donation sent: https://blockchain.info/tx/34a0ca552d8e4d7aebecf69cb91b6c77edee6a2a2b13f0dd243c946062ac8e0e

http://ntrweb.org/ looks fine, albeit a thrift store, with a 501(c)3 I may add. Ideally, I would love to see them have a Bitcoin Accepted Here in their window, but that's not a prerequisite, but perhaps suggest that to them if they're endowed, Rassah.

I pointed them to two online stores that sell Bitcoin Accepted Here stickers, and sent the $1,000 donation:

Also, Brock of warchild.ca finally managed to add a link to their bitcoin donation option to their front page (we sent them a donation a while ago, without realizing there's no way to get to it from the main page), and just e-mailed this:

Quote
Yesterday I sent out an email newsletter announcing it as a donation option. This was sent to our entire list of approximately 10,000. Here's a browser version if you're interested: http://us1.campaign-archive1.com/?u=9d6f5e20e61aefbc30b4ec243&id=772c42572c&e=[UNIQID]
