41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Catcoin - 0.9.1.1 - NEW THREAD on: June 05, 2014, 09:20:47 PM
Unfortunately until a proper algorithm is in place that doesn't have a ridiculously sensitive difficulty adjustment that creates outrageous block times cat is kind of stuck.
I have argued and argued that things are not working and even that 10 minute block times as it is were unreasonable. Only to be met with denial and argumentative resistance...

Sweet Jesus, I have to rebuild my stack if ShareX really was a hoax. Johnny, u have any news about the exchange? I will take the Sharex link out from our site tomorrow, don't want any Dreamers to lose coins there
I have tried to contact them without any response so far. Many people were taken by them. I am really getting tired of all these scams. If I receive any news I will let everyone know. In the meantime please be vigilant and cautious with your money. These are tuning into quite trying days in crypto. I will advise sticking with more reputable exchanges, and not keeping your coins there for extended periods of time. Eventually I fear it's situations like this that are going to bring a fist full of regulation down upon our industry (not that this would be 100% a bad thing) I would hope there is a justifiable reason for their site to be down, but at this moment in time I am not expecting this to be the outcome.
I wish I could give true words of condolence to the people of this community (and others) as I never wish for anyone to experience losses to the hands of con men...

IF we create a thread with all sharexcoin account holders asking DigitalOcean sharexcoin owner's Details
in order to force him to send the coins back ?
how things this action might help a bit ?

Digitalocean has been welcoming accounts for altcoins
and if 100 of us gather they will give us info

then if we know his real name maybe we can force him to send the coins back ?

I like this idea!

For the crypto business to mature and get rid of scammers, it needs be able to give out punishment by itself. Let's track him down and show that this is not tolerated!

Would this come under internet fraud in US?
We got the DO IP address, which would eventually be tracked down to a credit card address.

Is it possible to make an official complaint with the police for internet fraud in US?

He was based in the US so it must be possible to prosecute him there.
Who can take on to do a list of everyone who has claims?
I think 1500 people were registered at ShareXCoin. If everyone joins the prosecution costs won't be too heavy for any single person.

This business really needs to get rid of the scammers.
There are also other rules of precedence  that this could be filed under since crypto currencies fall under both property/commodity laws (IRS rules) And money laws (FINCEN) There is definitely a case for grand larceny and fraud...

I'm not attempting to create panic or even say I am correct in my assumptions. I am skeptical of intentions on the behalf of some, and also leery about what unforeseen problems may arise. In the case of XC I can say that the developer more than likely knows what he's doing, But i have to question the method used and motives behind it.
As far as Dark is concerned there method is severely flawed. I have to look deeper into ring signatures to get a greater understanding. Though from what i understand that method creates data bloat that will eventually yield the coin nonviable for typical daily use.

I will continue to watch the progress of the development of these coins and others that may try to step into their shadows. In the meantime if you are wanting some level of anonymity I would suggest looking into running your wallet client through proxies and Tor. If I am not mistaken this can be done with any coin's wallet and should give you some added level of privacy. https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Tor

If anybody actually has any experience with my above statement please let me know as this is probably one of the more valuable/viable and over looked options out there today

voot coin is going in that direction.

I'm not sure what to make of them, I'm not a big fan of premines. However going though TOR is a better option than node based. At least with TOR you're just network traffic and not identified as money traffic. Where the nodes system you are literally sending your money to other peoples wallets for transfer...

EDIT: It was another scam. Please be vigilant people they just keep putting them out.
lol. yeah. yet another scam.
the only reason i pointed that coin out was that TOR was suggested here for DRM and voot had posted TOR for their coin.
Yeah I understood where you were going with it. Like i said I actually am closer in agreement to running through TOR (slow as it may be) Over risking people's money and security through peer nodes. The concept is bad and opens the door to exploitation. I am not saying i would know how to exploit it. However that doesn't mean it's not exploitable. And if i have thought about it someone else has too. There by saying some one will... Once again these are opinions and not facts (at least for the moment)
Yes the blockchain itself is used to verify transactions through peers but at no point in time is a peer in possession of your coins. Where with this node based construct you truly send your money to others for transfer. That is one of the more troubling things to me not to mention the other issues of being tied to others dirty laundry...

in actual fact, anything with potential to be an anonymous money laundering platform, will indeed be under a shitload of scrutiny.
this is indeed a fact and one of the reasons I am against node based anonymity mixers I do not wish to have my things confiscated due to my computer relaying data in a laundry operation.
it is one thing to have an anonymous transaction from a to b but when you start involving everybody in the network they are all guilty by association, so when transactions get traced and the powers that be really have a hard on for whom ever they are after. More than likely innocent people will get caught up in the web.
I already know that law enforcement dislike the idea of mixers in general. So by implementing them directly in your code base you are painting a target on your back and running through the firing range...

XC has already been proven easily traceable at this time and though people will say oh it's because of... The because of doesn't matter on how if you get caught you get caught. Feds are not going to say you're right we traced that too easily let us wait until...

Anyway i have no vested intrest in either coin but the viability of anonymity in both is a broken affair take it or leave it for what it's worth but i wouldn't try using either for any illegal purpose it will back fire....

Original Dev abandoned this coin too?
Too many of these coins lately...

I agree too many fail coin launches and half hearted devs out there. It doesn't help that loljosh will make a coin for.7 BTC.
It's not good for altcoins as a whole that there are so many fly by nights poping up.
Dreamcoin was worth saving. I see great potential, and promise for it's future.

still no sign of multipool ?

volume on polo is small,, im afraid we might be knocked out.... Sad
I am going to try to get more information on the status of developments. I know that there are three pools in the works at the moment, but i do understand your concern as I as well am feeling frustration in the delays. I have only been the lead dev for a week and have reached out to a pool developer that i trust to build us a pool he said it would take approximately a couple weeks. The first multi pool that is/was being built i have little link to (other than it being legacy from the old dev) I do not know any true details behind it. We also have a community member working on one. I have agreed to let them disclose any details regarding that at/to their discretion.  I know it feels like slow movement and honestly I personally wouldn't have launched the coin without having these ducks lined up before hand. Being as this was an unplanned event (Taking lead on this coin) I am doing whatever is in my power to move things forward in as smooth of a method as possible. I do apologize for any delays in progress...
54  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Dreamcoin Revival 100% Proof Of Stake 15% Stake Rate [DRM] on: June 03, 2014, 11:06:11 AM
I have had a couple of concepts that will be placed under great scrutiny in the coming weeks. I have recently reaching out to coders that i know outside of the crypto currency community. I will be heading  back to my home town in about two weeks and will be there for a few months. This will be an opportunity for me to accomplish a couple of directives and have face to face deliberation of code and concepts. As well as facilitate a grass roots on the ground public awareness movement.
Personally the concept i am most aligned with is the zerocoin method as it does not rely on or require a third party to facilitate a transaction.
Yes i know zerocoin is a project that is no longer being developed by the original development team and that they have moved on to the zerocash system. Which I am also highly interested in. But I do believe zerocoin to have a fair frame work of concept to work from or to the minimum is a reference point.

I have had a few discussions of methods with a few people in this past week. Ironing out details will take time as well as addressing and ironing out any bugs that may occur during development and testing.
The public will never see these bugs as I do not believe in half baked releases. Also if zerocash is a better option and released before I can get a product ready I will highly consider a fork of their code (if they are open sourced or willing to work with the dream team)

Once again all that being said it is up to me and my team to perform due diligence to shield our investors from as much risk as possible and our responsibility not to release flawed code. I personally take future viability seriously and will not take short cuts or hype any promised development for temporary gains. If / when a public beta is ready. (Not an alpha build posing as public beta) It will be released.

I will not pull the same tactics the likes of many other coins. In good taste I will not list names, though those of you who have been paying attention probably know of a few coins that have been making undelivered promises (or hastily rushed products) for months...

We will not play that game here. As it stands, we have a solid Proof Of Stake coin that works. We have no staking issues and transactions move smoothly. Our base is solid...
Our #1 priority needs to be that of working on marketing efforts and community building. As outlined above there are indeed future developments under investigation, and once we mitigate the underlying concerns we will push forward.

ATCsecure can u plz explain how it is prevented from a mixer stealing coins during this beta wallet?

a mixer on its own can't steal coins, but with out the REV2 trust system and multi-path there is a potential risk of loosing coins through a bad node.  I have setup "hardened" servers for testing, PM for details

So it may be in bad taste to quote the dev of another coin, but when you see so much floundering it's hard not to comment...
It looks like XC dev acknowledges my first concern. In which case I feel it is completely irresponsible to launch that feature in the first place after all you are dealing with REAL PEOPLE and REAL MONEY. If there is even the slightest chance that a bad actor could steal coins your system is flawed. Now yes many systems have flaws but a node based mixer is less than an intelligent design I'm still waiting to see what i will call "pirate nodes" to pop up and reroute transactions. Secondly hardened server? While certainly more secure to route traffic to specific hubs for laundering, it breaks the main principle of decentralization. It is an easy task to create a centralized method of pseudo anonymity.
I've seen a lot of back peddling and double speak from 100% decentralized anonymous to well it's not 100% anonymous it's not 100% secure and not it's not decentralized....

So that all being said. I am working on development we are trying to solve these types of dilemmas. In the coming weeks I will be building / growing a team to tackle these issues.
As previously stated releasing something that puts people's money in jeopardy like the above stated have is unforgivably irresponsible in my opinion. Also do not misconstrue my statements I am not making promises of immediate/ imminent release here. I am however investigating and attempting to resolve these conundrums.

Once again Dreamers I thank you for your patience.

Can't we just let dead coins die? I mean I was down with dream, but shit didn't work out. I dropped my bags and moved on.
This is not a dead coin.  If you moved on why are you commenting?

We'll make real leaps forward in the future, today is calm water. That doesn't means that it's still water.
There are developments taking place and we should have some progress soon.
First thing to come will be a multi pool. Other developments are being researched...
I thank you again for your patience dreamers. Some things just take time...

No worries.
Things just aren't adding up for me on that front. Besides that I don't think that any node based system is a good idea. Whether it be Dark or XC either way I see them both open to exploitation and both depend on high volume traffic to be remotely effective on top of opening anybody on the network to federal investigation if by chance a transaction used for illegal purposes passed through their wallet. Just all around to messy for my liking...

Then you are going to love Cloakcoin's approach.  They launch in a little over an hour and are saying that they will utilize exchanges to anonymize their coin.  Not too much information on it yet though...the ANN was posted yesterday.

Personally...I am not a huge proponent of anonymity.  I think that the next big things will be Maidsafe, Ethereum et cetera.  DAC's seem fun too...
That's the same thing mastiff is proposing with coin recycling That's an even worse idea than most That's to say they guarantee an exchange...
Too shady

https://twitter.com/ZerocoinProject  They have a Bitcoin dev working with them on Zerocash.

I didn't say that Zerocash wasn't stout...I think it'll be big.  It's just going to take awhile for it to be ready.

Quote
Also if you can explain what atcsecure paid loljosh for If it wasn't to make a coin that is another thing that doesn't add up Plus it is easy to trace transactions with XC

I don't know what that transaction consisted of.  No one knows but the two involved.  That said...Dan stated that loljosh is not part of the dev team and had nothing to do with the Xcode.  Dan stated that the test release was still buggy and that there is more work to be done.  Whether it will be truly anonymous is questionable.  My only point was that Xcoin is probably not a scam coin.  I never implied that it was ready or would be ready for DRM...

No worries.
