1  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [WIP] My opensource Node.js Stratum server and client + RPC interface on: June 20, 2014, 02:07:59 AM
This software works great. I am in the process of trying to build a pool failover system that is miner agnostic and am using this code. I really appreciate that the basic stratum work is already done for me, thanks.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] sgminer - new unified multi-algorithm on-the-fly kernel switching miner on: June 09, 2014, 11:52:32 AM
I was just trying to use the auto-switching but it doesn't seem to work for me. When I set pool ports to 33xx, everything works perfectly, I can manually switch pools and all pools work, however when I switch it over to 43xx and start the sgminer, it says that all pools are dead after a while. Any suggestions?

Perfectly normal; in order to 'switch' only one algorithm can be 'selected' at a time.  All of NH ports that start with 43xx are multi-algo ports, which will shut, so when 1 is selected, the other 4 algos go dead.  If you have no failovers, it is possible you may get no work served if there are not enough orders up for that algo.

I understand that, but there surely IS some work at least for scrypt, since when I go manual, it works. So it's unlikely that there's no work for any algo...

If you only use 4xxx ports there could be a situation where you cant get work, or if it switches to a known buggy algorithm like keccak where I ignore the pool setting, so you have to set the backup pool with a 3xxx port or else the backup pool is pointless. You can set the backup to any one of the profit switching pools main ports on 3xxx, I put things by default on x13 for AMD cards since I have some nvidia cards running x11 that can't be auto switched yet.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] cudaMiner & ccMiner CUDA based mining applications [Windows/Linux/MacOSX] on: June 08, 2014, 12:11:50 AM
If there is still a large amount of support and bounties that go toward making a failover program for nvidia only or multiple types of miners I will begin working on something as soon as finals are over and summer begins. I really wish ccminer had an API to make this sort of thing easier, but I think I can create something that will check multiple pools for activity and pick a specific script (like a .bat file) to run based on which pool is active.

Oh, I agree they shouldn't make their own, but there was talk of getting it on an exchange of some kind.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: CannabisCoin [420] : Announcements, Development, Discussions. on: May 07, 2014, 05:40:54 AM
You asked us to follow on twitter and never gave a user name. You can stop posting here if you really feel like it but don't expect people to put the effort in to using twitter to monitor this stuff when it is very easy to see new posts on threads using bitcoin forum. Still waiting on that exchange.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] CannabisCoin [THC] Release 4/20/14 on: April 21, 2014, 06:46:19 AM
The block number is so high mostly because a whale of a miner hit the pool early on and crashed it. Once the pool came back up (and hasn't had any problems since) things have been operating as normal and the difficulty was auto adjusted accordingly. The unique features of this coin are almost entirely in the marketing team, that is a given. I think this usefulness of this coin will be seen in the acceptance rate the marketing team can achieve with these dispensarys. Pot coin could do the same exact thing, but that doesn't mean they will have the same wide spread success. We will see who wins.

I have a decent idea for using a coin pegged straight to a fiat currency. Do one of these concurrent transactions with the bitcoin client type of coins and keep all the ledgers in there exclusively. This is a bit rough and may have already been mentioned but I believe that is the only way you can really get away with making a coin without giving people something to mine.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bernankoin the Coin to save our economy - QE3 underway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on: December 30, 2013, 02:07:57 PM
It would be interesting to see what kind of things happen to the price of this coin if it were to hit an exchange.

I see lots of sell offers now, but I wouldn't imagine there are many buyers in the market as the way rewards are given this completely removes the desire for speculative holding.
Yup, speculative holding kind of does not make any sense right now, unless you are easily printing it speculating that it will gain value, and/or you have a belief that the quantitative easing used by central banks is working to bring value to the such & such currency and/or economy they are printing it for.

I hope an economist weighs in with why this is different than the $, £ or what have you issued by a central bank.

I imagine they would say something about the rate at which money is being introduced. Then probably something about how it needs to be under 2% growth annually.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] MemoryCoin 2.0 (MMC) - 5 Positions Available - $360/day on: December 29, 2013, 05:04:25 PM
can anyone explain why i only got 0.1MMC when i got 20PTS in my PTS wallet? My PTS have been in the wallet more then 2month.

I want my MMC

if anybody wants to spare some MMC Cheesy : MXCWqzjxEwZeKZwwC9MBZHgCVjKqqTxBQ6

The PTS was only converted at block 32000, approximately on Dec 10th or 12th (cant remember which). If you had the PTS then you will get the payouts.

I am mostly curious if older processors without the AES-NI instruction are worth running if they have a significant amount of ram. I will probably test this myself as I have an older server machine with 36 gigs of ram sitting around and this sounds like an appropriate use of it.

I think a problem here may be targeting. Many people who are knowledgeable about coins care very little for the packaging

This is a factor today but as the market grows a branding will become more important, It is no coincidence that companies spend billions a year on brand consultancy and let specialist companies handle branding and logo development. Large companies will have abook produced for them which will outline all the rules of their corporate ID. We take design for granted but there is a science and art to communicating your brand through design and media.

I agree that the image is important for widespread adoption but how will you reach that point without getting through the necessary hoops of getting the information to them?
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Bernankoin the Coin to save our economy - 1.2 OUT(+bins) with new dual QE! on: December 29, 2013, 04:02:52 PM
Eh. Maybe I will try on my laptop overnight but the frustration really comes in the time spent figuring out how to make it work right. Took at least 20 minutes to get it right. Plus I am pretty sure the windows client is out of sync now that you have updated the code recently.
The 1.2 client is fine (Windows or not), and with printing-by-default I'm not sure what you have to get right.

The newest additions are checkpoints, cosmetic fixes and a new seed node; it only helps new users a bit. This is hardly release worthy - I'm at least waiting for a few other checkpoints.

Oh. Printing by default didn't work for me. I checked by CPU usage. Who knows why. Some sort of indicator in the wallet UI would really help.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DEV GENIUS WANTED FOR EXCITING & INNOVATIVE ALTS [Click Thread To View Coins!!!] on: December 29, 2013, 03:48:41 PM
I think a problem here may be targeting. Many people who are knowledgeable about coins care very little for the packaging. The real limit to getting a coin into real circulation is getting to the knowledgeable people first. They inform other people and get the idea out there because it interests them. There is no simple package to shine up like a phone. There is a UI to shine up but that won't be enough to sell knowledgeable people on your product. Once it has gained a moderate audience it can be the thing that drives it to the more uninformed users but there is no easy channel to get it to them. Companies like Apple already had products and funds available. They were going to make more products anyways, they just made those products better and gave it a unified brand name (iPhone, iPad, iCloud, ect.). You have no existing channels of distribution or income in this field. That is a very large barrier to overcome. When Apple started it was because they had a unique, competitively priced product to ride on (Apple I). I also agree that you should try to start at another product that already has a following to try and overcome these problems or find a way to overcome these barriers to beginning your product.

Somewhat annoying. I tried printing for over an hour on an i7 3770 and got nothing for my troubles. Was going to have some lulz with it but oh well.

I am sad this is a primecoin rip as primecoin is an awesome idea. If this ever hits an exchange the entire market could have some confidence undermined. I hope nobody has a nefarious plot to try and hurt altcoin mining with pushing this...

Actually it appears this thread has been moved to alternate cryptocurrencies. Should get more visibility now.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Dogecoin ever be more than a joke? on: December 27, 2013, 06:18:11 PM
The comparison to how many fiat currencies there are in the world kind of overlooks the fact that most of those currencies are backed by troops / armed police.

Not foreign mercenary troops either but native troops.

Not migrant swarms of troops that fly over to whichever nation offers them the biggest bounty that hour or day...

-MarkM-

So how do these troops prevent inflation?

I understand the concept of there being an established state behind most currencies and that is what gives them their value. What it doesn't stop is inflation by the state. Look at Germany in WW2. Their inflation was insane. Simply having troops does not protect you from inflation.

Actually the wonder of these crypto currencies is you don't have to look at the state backing the currency to wonder if it will have future value. The value is inherent in the system as long as there is still supply and demand moving it around in the system. Creating new systems adds total currency to the world, but it devalues other currencies as it takes patrons or value from their systems.
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WANTED! DEV/programmer GENIUS to partner in launching exciting new ALT coins on: December 27, 2013, 06:05:50 PM
Actually a unified wallet would be awesome.

One wallet, a graphical bitcoin wallet that has skins/themes ability.

Then all the marketer/hype people can go wild making umpteen themes/skins addressing different demographics and niche markets and so on, yet all are totally compatible because under the hood they are all really just different names for bitcoin...

-MarkM-

Is there anything preventing the current bitcoin wallet from being skinned? Or any of the alternatives?
I think the real point of a unified wallet was to store every single kind of crypto currency. Sort of like how coin exchanges allow you to have multiple types of currencies at once.

we need a crypto currency that has a value of 1:1 with an existing fiat currency

Well funnily enough then we are on EXACTLY the same wavelength as the existing portfolio has some of the best key generic currency domains on the planet like JPYcoin.com, RubleCoin.com AEDcoin.com, and this is exactly where my project is heading for the 'bigger picture'. I missed USDcoin.com and CNYcoin.com but still picked up USDcoins.com and CNYcoins.com for when this convergence takes place and to feed traffic into my main project.

From your last post I think you'd be very excited to know the full extent of the portfolio and realise that our thoughts on where crypto is heading are spookily in tandem.

The reason I was asking about your main passion is this is a good place to begin, but you went straight for the jugular and identified the exact direction I am already heading

Cheesy

That's pretty interesting actually. Who knew. I think there are too many problems involved in this still to make it a project but I do like that we had similar ideas. I will keep thinking of things I want a crypto currency to do but almost all of them come back to the keyhotee model that is going to be used by bitshares. Bitshares are the evolution of protoshares and I think you might like some of the concepts. I will keep contemplating though.

This is like offering a yellow Dollar bill which can only be used to by bananas.  Why would I want to use that instead of a regular dollar bill?

As crypto becomes more mainstream and general public adopt it dollar bills are going to eventually have little or no value, it will be the successful trusted crypto brands that will be successful.

I think this is a dangerous assumption. I see a world where crypto currencies and current currencies live side by side until one system crashes. It seems that the assumption of most people is that fiat currencies will eventually run themselves into the ground. I believe too many wealthy influential people are too invested in the current system to just abandon it or let it run into the ground. JP morgan decided that we would have a fiat currency to fix the problems of his day. He was a very wealthy and influential man, so much so he was able to remove the gold standard in the US basically by himself. Who is to say there are not groups of people with near as much influence in this modern day and age?
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mining scrypt based cryptocurrency on: December 27, 2013, 05:49:22 PM
That should work fine. You have to do what works for you in the end. If you do enough google searching you should be able to find the power consumption of all your devices and the power supply you may need. There are many calculators out there. Also, there are connectors that allow you to use 2 power supplies in tandem. Make sure when you buy a power supply you know how many 6/8 pin PCI-E connectors you have on the power supply. It is common to only have 4 6/8pin connectors (each plug can work as a 6 or an 8 pin), meaning you would need a power supply for each 2 cards. This is of course assuming each card has a 6pin and an 8pin connector on it. I believe that is how the 280's work but you should research all of this to be certain. A few hours of research can save you a lot of regret.
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Dogecoin ever be more than a joke? on: December 27, 2013, 05:41:41 PM
I think DogeCoin need a leap of faith.  Hey, look at Bitcoin when it is launched, everybody was laughing at it.
And now, people jumping crazily into it.  What does this tell you?  It is being recognized and the value have went up almost 1000 times.

Bitcoin will be still around for a long time.  But you got to understand, Bitcoin is limited in quantity and limited quantity of 21 millions to be mine.
But Dogecoin is not. Even now, Dogecoin is growing in value slowly.  In a few years time, it will be a small brother of Bitcoin.
There are different currencies in the world, I think there will be also different Altcoin as well.

Look at the financial crisis of 2008, Feds created or printed One Trillion dollars out of thin air because it is a Patrol Dollar.
And everybody is accepting it. Why can't it be Dogecoin?  And Dogecoin depend on Supply and Demand too.

As long as Dogecoin is stable and dependable usages for commerce, it will remind.

dogecoin has a limit of 100 billion coins. Just because it is a bigger number doesn't make it have any less or more meaning towards the worth of a coin. In fact, without these limits, just as you said, money will just be printed out of thin air. So I ask you, what makes any new alt coin different then the fed introducing more money? There is suddenly a new cap to the entire crypto coin market. With each new coin made, the total cap of currency (even though it is of multiple kinds) has increased. The only way a coin is really worth anything is it's value to the holders, it's value to potential buyers, and its ability to be exchanged. Dogecoin effectively made a new cap on the market for "value". What makes dogecoin any better than the Federal Reserve?
