I've been involved for quite some time (downloaded my first Bitcoin wallet in 2010), and I diversified bitcoins to hold various altcoins. I would say altcoins have a huge potential (and actively involved in Catcoin 2013), but frankly if I had held onto some of those bitcoins I diversified away, I would be in a better position today. LOL!

There has been multiple "Catcoin" projects taking advantage of the meme coin craze, it's confusing. The original Catcoin (that was released only a couple of weeks after Dogecoin, in 2013!) has lately been blowing up in terms of Scrypt hashrate, despite there not being much if any promotion up to this point. It just passed 400 gigahashes per second (still small potatoes, but that's about a 1,000x increase over a few weeks ago). The point being, even very old meme coins that existed long before the meme coin craze, is seeing action. I won't make any obvious promotional links here to respect the thread's intention to discuss the meme coin craze, and I am sure OP appreciates the thread not getting spammed.

Due to everwhelming demand and multiple commitments in place, the objective of obtaining committed hash power over a 1500-hour duration has been amply achieved. Therefore, effective immediately, the offer is no longer open.

If the network hash should exceed 1,000 Gigahashes Per Second for a 24-hour period in the near future, a similar offer will be opened but at a higher price point. Also, another offer may be opened near the end of 1500 hour mark, to incentivize keeping the hash going, but a decision on this has not been made. A similar offer may open for other reasons not enumerated.

Ten years later, Catcoin is still going strong, and (April 9, 2024) just had a peak of 360 gigahashes, still with a wallet not updated since 2017.

The PID adjustment protocol is working well to cope with a sudden increase in hash.

For anyone curious, there are multiple "Catcoins" out there, but all of them I have seen came out way later. This is the original or oldest remaining Catcoin, having been released only a couple of weeks after Dogecoin in 2013.

I do not agree with creating conflicting nodes as a means to decide which fork should "win" as way to decide the future of the coin. I also do not agree with the characterization that rejecting blocks which come too quickly after the previous block constitutes "stealing." If there is fair notice that this is the algorithm of the coin, nothing prevents the miner from developing pauses in the hashing (or move to hashing some other coin during the pause). Any hashing that is done by a miner during a time when it is known in advance any found blocks will be rejected, I would characterize as the miner not being sophisticated enough in the code yet, which can be fixed at any time by using one of the aforementioned techniques.

I would request all concerned to come to a consensus on the future of Catcoin that does not involve competing forks, and that does not involve mischaracterizing algorithms based on falsely assuming that miners cannot adapt to the algorithm to avoid performing mining calculations that get wasted.

I would submit and make available the Penta algorithm developed in C#, but we would need a volunteer programmer to translate it to c++ and provide a couple of conversion functions to translate native difficulty representation to the floating point representation and back, to bring the code to the state where it can be tested on a testnet. The code is already testable in the simulator at catcoin-algo.org but it is understood and agreed that code must be converted to C++ and its performance must be validated in the testnet environment before it can be a candidate for implementation.

I care about the Catcoin project, and have observed that under the current style of management, the coin has lost 99% of its market value. I observe that at any given time, there is someone in the process of getting kicked out with accusation of subversion, terrorism, etc. I observe that the coin has suffered erratic block adjustment behaviors for most of its life, and my numerous contributions of ideas have been dismissed out of hand with what appears to be illogical arguments. The management of the coin currently resembles a dictatorship with lack of transparency with respect to power structure, decision-making process, etc. The coin appears to be treated as if it were the private personal property of a couple of buddies. I believe in the coin and believe it deserves better than that.

I request that the contribution I made to the insurance fund be returned to me, because I understood the fund was being administered by Hozer, and the agreement was that any funds left over after paying out funds per the specific formula and procedure laid out by Hozer, would be returned back to me. Now that this arrangement has been terminated, any funds not already paid out to legitimate beneficiaries of the funds from out of what I contributed, are due back to me. I object to the idea funds I put into trust for a specific purpose becoming commandeered to be used for purposes I may find objectionable.
