1  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: Free Nordvpn.com Trial Acc on: October 09, 2019, 02:19:42 PM
These days I found a legit way to get 1 month NordVPN subscription for free. I was looking for some free VPN apps because I’ll be traveling abroad next week. I found out that if you install YOTI app you get Nord for free. It seems they have launched some kind of collaboration campaign or smth. Still, why not to use this free opportunity - https://vpn.yoti.com. Btw, if you ask what is this YOTI app used for, I would answer that it’s ID on your phone. It's the digital identity app that lets you encrypt your ID and use it to prove who you are online and in person.

I can recommend Surfshark VPN. It works with most streaming services, Netflix included. Since it isn't really known it isn't blocked. It also supports unlimited devices which is a huge plus in my opinion. Here's a deal I've found earlier if you're interested: https://surfshark.com/offer/get74off which gives you a 74% discount. Or you can try the Android or iOs version for free.

I can recommend NordVPN. Many servers, great speeds and while they don't have a native Linux app you can set it up easily anyway. Also, it helps that they are based in Panama so out of the 14 eyes jurisdiction. There's a deal going right now at https://nordvpn.com where you can get 3 years for $99, it is limited and soon will run out though. Other good mentions could be Speedify, Surfshark or Boleh.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Hola VPN hack compromises MyEtherWallet users on: July 17, 2018, 08:25:15 AM
Hola VPN, our favorite VPN service to hate, is at it again. In the evening of 9 July 2018, MyEtherWallet (MEW) announced that a Hola hack has potentially jeopardized the crypto wallets of all who used Hola‘s Chrome extension over a period of 5 hours. MEW suggested that compromised users should immediately transfer their money to a different wallet (if they still could). It isn‘t yet clear how much money was lost due to this attack, but that‘s really beside the point…

In 2015 it came to light that Hola VPN had been selling off its users’ bandwidth to a sister company – Luminati. Virtual Private Networks are expensive to run, particularly in terms of infrastructure. Hola tries to solve the issue of costliness by having users’ PCs route traffic through them, using that bandwidth in the process. This would supposedly only happen when the computers are idle, plugged into a power source, not using mobile data, etc. So far so good, but what happens when your IP gets caught up in something illegal? Case in point: Luminati sells bandwidth for large-scale data transfers – Hola users’ bandwidth to be precise. Well, on at least one occasion that bandwidth was used as part of a botnet to carry out a DDoS attack on 8chan (8ch.net) – oops!

What’s Hola done now?

So now several years have passed and here we are, bashing Hola VPN once again. Even though this case doesn’t seem to be as malicious as the last, the consequences are still quite terrible.
MyEtherWallet is a popular cryptocurrency management service. It allows users to access wallets as well as make transactions. It is important to be quite clear here – MyEtherWallet was not hacked. What happened was hackers used currently-unclear means to hijack Hola VPN and log users’ activity on MyEtherWallet. This means they could have potentially hijacked login credentials needed to access your wallet and make crypto transactions.

And here's the source: https://vpnpro.com/blog/hola-vpn-hack-compromises-myetherwallet-users/

I've read some threads here and many people recommended Hola VPN because it is free. But the only free thing is the cheese in the mousetrap. Anyone using it here?
5  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: VPN Giveaway #1 [ExpressVPN - 12 Activation Keys For Free] on: June 12, 2018, 01:20:12 PM
Great Thanks, Been searching all over for the keys. Do you have keys for NordVPN.

Hi. I don't have a free version, but I found these two coupon codes on the Internet:

ENCRYPT2Y -- $72 for 2 years
ZEROLOGS3Y -- $99 for 3 years (77% off which is huge I think).

Just enter into https://www.nordvpn.com and apply them at check out. Hope this helps. Cheers Smiley
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If you are using PIA as your VPN provider, you should consider changing it ASAP on: May 11, 2018, 12:25:00 PM
PIA is the vpn recommended all over the web, even the ones recommended to chinese users to circumvent the great firewall of china. Looks like we'll have to pick another one instead, anything involving the mt gox guy is a definite no

Well, I've heard NordVPN is also good at bypassing great firewall of China. But yeah, that was a baffling decision.

Thanks for your replies. Since I've enjoyed my trial with good speeds I've decided to pick up NordVPN, found a code GIFT75 (just put it in checkout at https://nordvpn.com/) and got a deal for 3 bucks a month. Better safe than sorry I guess. Thanks for your help Smiley

You guys saw their official statement? (https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/blog/2018/04/why-i-hired-mt-gox-ex-ceo-mark-karpeles-as-cto-of-london-trust-media/)

Well this didn't make anything clear... Not a single word about the future. It will be very hard to regain the trust I think.

Strange one I used to use Private Internet access a few years ago. Seems a little odd that they would employ him as a chief technology officer given the circumstances he's in and what he has previously been associated with him.

I'm not sure on alternatives I remember PIA having some good policies and having no logs if I remember correctly. But, if you don't want to use them because of this then I'm not really too sure on good alternatives that provide the same service that PIA did. It depends on what you want a VPN for too. Will using Tor browser suffice for you?

Yeah, it is very strange and unexpected, what were they thinking? I was considering changing PIA for a while now, because it doesn't support Netflix anymore. Then I discovered that it is registered in the US. It means that the government could take their records anytime even though they claim that they do not store any logs (google 14 eyes). I don't have anything to hide, but I don't want ISP selling my data to marketers. I have used Tor, but it is quite slow and I'd rather pay some extra money for speed and security. I did my research and like I said, NordVPN and ProtonVPN are the ones I'm considering (Netlix; based in Panama and Switzerland).

Do you use anything Welsh? Or do you think that it is overkill if talking strictly about security of cryptos?
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / If you are using PIA as your VPN provider, you should consider changing it ASAP on: April 23, 2018, 03:16:46 PM
Hello all. Wanted to share some shady things. If you are dealing with crypto currencies, you should know about the risks. I wanted to be extra secure so I used PIA for about a year since starting this crypto business. But to my surprise, they hired Mark Karpeles as the one of their execs. A man responsible for allegedly scamming many people with very shady business practices and in crypto currencies nontheless. He is now on bail and maybe even facing jail. Here's a link to this story. https://www.engadget.com/2018/04/22/mt-gox-chief-returns-as-cto-of-vpn-giant/

Anyway, I’m really baffled and I won’t trust PIA again. What are you guys using? I’m thinking about ProtonVPN or NordVPN (just got Nord's free trial and it's quite good). Or you aren’t as paranoid as me?
