61  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The irony of a decentralized currency with a development team. on: February 13, 2014, 06:34:08 PM
I think you can ask the same questions about the US dollar. The major difference being that the US dollar was corrupted over 100 years ago and that doesn't seem to affect adoption rates by business.

Did you find a solution?
63  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Rate my mining performance on: February 10, 2014, 02:03:33 PM
I am using an ASUS HD7790 DirectCU II OC 2GB card on GUIMINER-Scrypt. Ran the card overnight from 10:30pm to 7:00am. I was getting 246khash and using middlecoin.com's pool which mines the most profitable coin at any given time. 95 shares accepted, 10 stale/invalid (seems high to me).

Thread-concurrency 8000
vectors 1
gpu threads 1
worksize 256
intensity 18
gpu-engine 860
gpu-memclock 1500

Any suggested tweaks? How is my stale rate? Stales seem high this run but on longer runs it is usually half to 1/3rd this amount.

I'm new and perhaps I'm wasting your time. I am wondering if since 3 of the risers are unpowered, that the motherboard is shutting off a card to prevent overvoltage or something. Can you poach 3 powered risers from one of the other machines and test the config using 6 powered risers?
65  Other / Off-topic / Re: Is it easy to make silver coins? on: February 10, 2014, 03:22:41 AM
A basic silver coin such as what you might see with a Morgan silver dollar is done by using a hydraulic press to stamp a silver blank with a particular design. There are additional features that can be added such as color, ridges, plastic casing, etc. The hydraulic press has to be able to exert many tons of pressure. Using extreme pressure, the silver actually exhibits fluid-like characteristics and flows into the pattern of the die.

Typically, you can expect to pay for the precious metal blanks at around spot prices. Then you often have to pay a die fee to have a die made that will be used in the hydraulic press. Then there is the manufacturing costs which is typically per coin stamped. There are fees for extra features, shipping, packaging, etc.

Here is an example of a company that offers this service:

67  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: mining rig on: February 10, 2014, 02:42:06 AM
It's still worth it imo.
It's gonna be some time still before asics hit the market, and even when they do, they'll only be about twice as good hash per $ and not 10+ times like with sha-256.

ASICS already hit the market, check out the dual USB mining... They are now mass producing it and in 1-2 months you should see it flood the market..
I don't know if this is the case. If you bought 10 of them you could save about 200 watts on power consumption over a 7950. At $0.10 per kilowatt, you're looking to save about $175 a year. The price difference on hardware is about $500. It will take about 3 years to break even on that. Not to mention, you can resell the graphics card and make additional money. ASICs, not so likely.
68  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How much will it be worth (mining rig) on: February 09, 2014, 06:24:43 PM
maybe you can put in a water tank between your cold water supply and water heater and carry heat away from your rig that way. maybe put that tank in a larger tank that houses your cards. this keeps your house water separate and the heat you produce reduces the energy input required to supply your home with hot water.
69  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Help for choosing right GPU on: February 09, 2014, 04:43:21 PM
Just a bit of advice since you say old computer.

Make sure your chosen card will fit since most of these cards are double slot sized. I tried using an old computer at first and the dang fan and heatsink for the cpu was in the way. Ended up with an ugly setup.

Determine if you need any powered risers such as 1x-16x powered usb risers or a larger power supply because it sucks to have delays getting started. I delayed my start by two weeks sorting out this stuff.
70  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: List of profit-switching mining pools for scrypt-based cryptocurrencies on: February 09, 2014, 04:35:28 PM
Can you add the hashing power of each as well to the list?
71  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Which rig is more efficent for mining? on: February 09, 2014, 04:30:06 PM
Need more info.

What is estimated post-tuned power consumption of each card in each configuration?

What is power consumption of both computers before addition of gpus?

What cards are you going to use in each?
72  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: None of the GPU miners find my GPU on: February 09, 2014, 05:24:32 AM
You either need a dummy plug to fool windows into thinking the graphics card is hooked to a monitor or edit registry:
I'm mining with on Windows my two 5850's and didn't ever thought about need to use the dummy plugs, it isn't needed!
You just need to disable ULPS - this mechanism disables the second card without monitor/workload. Here's how to do it:
Quote
Go to registry and disable Ulps:

 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Cl ass\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]

and change "EnableUlps" to 0 under the 0000 and 0001 or 0003 keys.
73  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / proper syntax for gpu-engine and gpu-memclock on: February 06, 2014, 04:23:51 AM
I have a 7790 that I'm trying to get an optimal hashrate for scryptmining. I'm using guiminer-scrypt. I've read several discussions on here about setting the gpu-engine to 800 and the gpu-memclock to 1500 to get best hashrate. However, I'm stumbling to get the proper syntax to accomplish this. Any help?

75  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Libertarians... if you could change 1 thing in the US constitution.... on: January 24, 2014, 04:51:22 PM
I would have added a secession amendment to the bill of rights.

"The right to secede from the union shall be preserved for all states and persons."

This is an interesting idea. The Constitution has a mechanism for adding states, but it does not have any mechanism for removing states. Either something has to change or eventually the whole world will be part of the US (would that be a bad thing? Sometimes I think some problems would be solved if the US were to annex Mexico?).

Looking back at history, the Civil War could have been avoided along with all its bloodshed and destruction if Lincoln had been more open-minded about secession. The Confederacy would eventually have changed its tune on slavery because of cultural pressure or violent revolt of the downtrodden majority, and the Southern States would have rejoined the Union.
I think it comes down to the basic human right to change deplorable conditions. If you are unhappy about your leaders, you can speak out and try to change it (first amendment), leave it, or fight it (second amendment). Leave it is a peaceful alternative when peaceful change is futile.
76  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Guys what do you think about "Xtreme miners" new ASIC company? on: January 24, 2014, 05:11:35 AM
They posted some "good and bad news" on their website:

Quote
January 18, 2014

We have some good and some bad news today.
Bad news - we are unfortunately expecting a delay in delivery times for our first batches of miners.
(Later batches will NOT be affected by this delay.)
No one likes to hear that delivery delays, we are aware of that. But even with the most detailed planning, experienced employees, and careful preparation for any problems, there are still things happening sometimes that you cannot prevent.
The production phase will take longer than expected, due to some unpredictable change of events.
Plus, we're still working on improving the power consumption and keeping it as continuous as possible.
We are truly sorry for any inconveniences this might cause, and are doing everything to speed up the process as much as possible.

Good news are, that we are happy to announce additional power of up to 0.2 TH for every model.
Prototype tests showed that we can expect up to 0.2 TH more for each model as average hashing speed.

We will keep all our customers updated as to what happens next and when new shipping dates will be confirmed.

= we think that we can still perpetuate this scam just a little longer.

Why would you want to get rid of the 17th admendment? Instead of having the people of a state elect their representative, you want to go back to having the politicians pick? This is a horrible idea.

The house of Representatives is the people's legislative body of federal government.  The Senate is the states' representative in the federal government. This way, states' rights would be defended by people chosen by the states themselves. 10th amendment has been shat on ever since passage of the 17th amendment.

The other great fucking of this nation is when they limited the size of the house of Representatives to 435. We should actually have about 3500 congressmen right now if the original plan was kept. Much harder to corrupt,  easier for the people to recall, and easier to be influenced by the people as it should be.

Fuck the Seahawks.

49ers fan.

I'm a Bears fan, and Bears start with B, and that spells...

49ers named after the miners who came to cali during the 1849 gold rush. Our team represents the miners!

I would get rid of the electoral college. Just have a popular vote for president.

The electoral college is a thing of beauty. Otherwise cali and ny would pick the president every election. Think of the electoral college as the World Series. You have 50 contests instead of 7. Each contest though is still weighted by the number of people in each state.

Remove the states from the idea; just let every American individual have an equal vote on who the president will be.  Not every New Yorker and Californian is going to be the same fellow.

I take it you don't know the difference betwee a democracy and a republic.

Popular vote is just majority rules and majority rule is just two wolves and a sheep voting on what to eat for dinner.
