weeks ago i used the iPhone app, locking today for it but cant found it. will come an app with update or what is the reason?
We are still working on an update to fix the issues with the iOS wallet. We have temporarily disabled it on the iTunes store until we roll out an update. Stay tuned.

In the first post, Where to buy DigiByte, it doesn't mention Poloniex.
Just wanted to point that out  Wink
Thank you for pointing this out. We have added Poloniex as well as ShapeShift. Are there any other exchanges we are missing?

https://tip4commit.com/ would be perfect for this and is open source so a DGB4Commit wouldn't take alot of time.

Awesome! Thank you very much! We are going to get this set up.

I am really impressed by the growing number of quality posts being made in the form of knowledgeable questions and suggestions about both specific technicals and general promotional avenues and ideas, as well as, and perhaps even more so, with the expressed desires to contribute (and continue doing so, as may be the case). Really phenomenal!

Couple that with the open source spirit of transparency and collaboration that is so evident throughout this thread - throughout the entire project for that matter - and it becomes extremely difficult to imagine anything but long term success for DigiByte.

This suggests to me that DGB is getting legs and really starting to get a life of its own. There have been so many "before's and after's" with DigiByte, that I hesitate to call this another key turning point, but it most certainly looks like one when seen from the community's point of view and I think we might look back on the autumn of 2015 as the time when the DigiByte community exploded in numbers, abilities and skill sets and really came of its own.

It's great to have you all aboard!

HR,

We couldn't agree more. We feel the time has come to do a few things, starting with the main DigiByte website. We would like to open source it and add it to GitHub so anyone can contribute. The site is currently built upon Drupal. Does anyone have any suggestions for the best way to do this? Bitcoin.org does provide a great example for how to allow multiple contributors but perhaps there is a better way without migrating the entire site. We also will be adding the OP of this thread to a Github repo for people to help edit.

We would like to start a DigiByte project section that will allow people to contribute DigiBytes toward specific projects they want to see completed and a place for developers to come and see what needs to be done. Right now with 20+ software platforms and counting we see growing pains from time to time that others can much more efficiently help with. Long story short, we want to help get the community more organized and efficiently utilized. We would like to here everyones thoughts and ideas on how this can best be accomplished. Cheers.

I'd be happy to add an "Official DGB Projects" section to the DigiByte Group website.  I could even give you access as an editor of the site so that you could post projects directly.  It might not be the long-term solution you're looking for, but it would be easily implemented - I could do it almost immediately.

This would be great, and a logical place to start. Thank you for the offer! As for contributions toward specific projects we can set up a multi-sig wallet in the Gaming Wallet and post the addresses from there. What does everyone think about that?

A Few Thoughts on DigiSpeed & Blockchain Scalability

Question #1: Why does DigiByte need to be able to match Visa's average transactions per second?

Short answer: Utility, usability, marketability and growth well into the future. "DigiSpeed" has already became a buzzword in the crypto community and has a very marketable appeal moving forward. More importantly DigiByte takes a bold step forward with DigiSpeed to dramatically scale a blockchain with multi-algorithim mining. However, this does not mean the DigiByte blockchain size will jump dramatically over night.

Question #2: I can't afford to mine and run 8 MB blocks on my PC?

Short Answer: We are a long way off from hitting 8 MB blocks. We are not even coming close to filling 1 MB blocks. This change simply removes a cap that Satoshi himself even admitted was an arbitrary limit he put together on the fly. Our assumption is we will not see 8 MB blocks until several years from now.

Question #3: What incentive will people have in the future to run a full DigiByte node when there is a large amount of data in the blockchain?

Short answer: The "DigiSize v5.0 wallet we are planning for mid-late 2016 will tackle this issue head on. This will include advanced pruning and syncing features as well as some increased incentives for running a full node. We are tossing around several ideas for what this incentive might look at. Perhaps a staking feature, perhaps a new type of mining algorithim or perhaps some other feature yet to be thought up. We would like all the input we can get on this topic. In the end the key to long term survival and network security is tens of thousands of people around the world running full DigiByte nodes.

Question #4: Wont people attack the chain with bloated transactions and OP RETURN data?

Short Answer: This is a very real possibility that we are going to mitigate up front by increasing the average transaction fee (still a very small amount). And we open the amount of this increase up to debate. The best way to explain this is if someone wanted to fill up an 8MB with thousands of small transactions in theory they could. But if it cost them exponentially more to carry this out the attack vector is mitigated. As for OP RETURN data, we will be keep this as is. Future security applications that embed data in OP RETURN should make use of distributed hash tables, not storing data directly on the chain.

Question #5: Transactions are becoming larger than 250 kb, wont this make the issue worse?

Short Answer: Yes some transactions are indeed larger than 250 KB and the average transaction size in the future will undoubtedly be larger but for now its a solid number to work from for averages.

Question #6: With such fast block times and sizes wont transactions be "lost"?

Short Answer: With multi-algorithm mining we are actually in a unique position compared to other coins who have tried with very fast block times. Even though the DigiByte network as a whole will see 15 second block times, each individual algo and mining pool actually is generating 1 minute 15 second blocks. Meaning each block has over a minute to pick up transactions. Some great data on network propagation can be found here: Microsoft Research: http://www.tik.ee.ethz.ch/file/49318d3f56c1d525aabf7fda78b23fc0/P2P2013_041.pdf

Question #7: Are you testing massive swings in difficulty?

Short Answer: Absolutely. But after DigiShield and Multi shield this is much less of an issue than the Bitcoin test data that was shown for BTC that showed this to be a problem with larger blocks. Bitcoin still retargets every 2 weeks.

Question #8: Where is the test data for DigiSpeed?

Short Answer: Before releasing the hard fork wallets we will release data on the following points:
*Transaction Times
*Block Times
*Algo Distribution
*Transaction Sizes
*Other data we find useful

Question #9: Why not release DigiSpeed by using a timestamp in the future or by network consensus instead of making network changes occur at a specific block?

Short Answer: By using a specific block everyone knows exactly when the changes to the network will occur. This dramatically mitigates several attack vectors. It also gives people the choice to opt out ahead of time if they so chose. It is also important to note this will be DigiBytes fourth hard fork. The previous three were carried out successfully in the same manner.

Question #10: With block-speed doubling wont that mean twice as many DigiBytes will be coming in to circulation each day?

Short Answer: No. At the hardfork point the reward will be cut in half so the same amount of daily DigiBytes will be mined.

In closing it is important to note we are not going to rush anything here until we are 100% happy with our test data and have addressed all of the communities questions. We would also encourage everyone to read this blog post by the Bitcoin developer Mike Hearn: https://medium.com/@octskyward/on-block-sizes-e047bc9f830

Let us know other technical questions you have and as they come in we will post replies below here:

We are indeed evaluating some issues that will arise far into the future and we are already working to mitigate them. We are not going to give a hard launch date as it fuels pump and dumps. When we are 100% ready we will release.

We just completed a successful 12,000 Block test run with DigiSpeed modifications (8mb blocks, 15 second transactions, difficulty calculation modifications, transaction propagation changes.)

The test resulted in even distribution between the five algos and our actual test data showed and average block time of 14.68 seconds (slightly speedier than planned).

Average transaction size: 250 bytes
Maximum block size: 8mb (8,388,608bytes)
Average block-time: 14.68

Maximum BTC TPS = 7 transactions per second.
BTC block size = 1mb

7 x 8mb blocks =  56 TPS

BTC Block Time= 10 min
DGB block time= 14.68 sec

600 min / 14.68 sec = 40.87 multiplier

56 TPS x 40.87 = 2,228 DigiByte Transactions per second

Visa averages 2,000 TPS

Following the DigiSpeed v4.0 release we will release a version v5.0 in mid 2016 with enhanced block pruning, headers first sync and additional "incentives" for people like gamers to run a "full node" and keep the network decentralized as blockchain size increases Smiley

It's all well and good to say "we tested it and had no problem" but that would never fly in a corporate environment. You'd have to show data/proof.

I'd personally like to see the test blockchain data. Put up your test blockchain explorer somewhere so we can examine how many transactions you were sending per block.

In the data you provided, you say that the average transaction size is 250 bytes. But, how is that number used to calculate the 2228 DGB trans/second? If you divide 8mb/250 you come up with a theoretical maximum of 33554 transactions per block. Divide that by 14.68 you come up with 2286 trans/sec.

250 bytes is about right for a block with 1 input per transaction (block reward only).

I did a quick check of the last 1695 blocks (1336523 through 1338189) and came up with an average transaction size of 392 bytes (block size divided by transactions). This would lower the theoretical transactions/second to 1457.

As more and more transactions happen, there are going to be more inputs per transactions and that's going to inflate the size of each transaction, this is why I'm curious to see how many transactions you had per block and how many inputs you had per transactions.

I quoting this because it has some constructive questioning.  Smiley
We are still preparing some visual data and numbers to show everyone in better detail. We do not want to rush things without solid data to demonstrate its not only possible, but much more efficient. We have been playing with several variables as well. Stay tuned.

I see the price rise but I don't understand why. Isn't DigiByte just essentially Myriad with an added premine and instamine? They've been talking about this DigiSpeed hard fork for months now, but still no deadline, only delays. And they haven't even explained how it is exactly that their new hard fork will solve the scalability issue of Bitcoin. How will they encourage enough nodes to store a full copy of the blockchain? Sounds like the coin will become massively bloated.

Regarding the premine. It has all been given away already waaaay back.

The DigiSpeed hardfork + the DigiByteMarket are both parts of it. Another factor, we need to take into account, is that DigiByte remained relatively unknown amongst the crypto community. Now that it has seen additional volume and shot up on the coinmarketcap, we get more potential investors. And if DigiSpeed succeeds in its premise, the price should skyrocket. No coin, to my knowledge, has achieved to match VISA TPS (Transactoins-Per-Second) before.

How do we know they didn't give it away to themselves? Anyway, they have been making claims about DigiSpeed for months. Recently it's been on the news a lot that Bitcoin is not scalable enough and could handle only a fraction of the transactions that Visa handles. Since then DigiByte has been promising they will be able to match this with their DigiSpeed, but as far as I can see they haven't explained how.

They said 15-18 second block times and 8 mb block size. The only downside is less nodes and more lite wallets because the blockchain will become huge.

Of course, that 'downside' will most likely be the death of DigiByte unless they have some new technology in the works that incentivises nodes or something like that. They haven't given any details whatsoever. This is why I choose not to invest in DigiByte.

Well the problem I see with the price is that everyone was expecting digispeed in October. How long will the pump have to remain in place until the official announcement is in place. I think some pump groups are going to get burned on this one if Jared doesn't announce digispeed soon. This will be a good thing of course if it's delayed until December it might normalize the price above 100 and not have the Vertcoin scenario.

For anyone who is interested, the blockchain and history tells the true story. DigiByte has had a 0% premine since March/ April of 2014 when the last of the 0.5% was spent on giveaways, marketing and development. Every DigiByte we currently have we have purchased on the market or mined.

There was no "instamine." We fairly pre-announced the launch date of Janurary 10th several days in advance along with the fact there would be a 0.5% premine to be given away and used to pay for the first series of mobile wallets and services. This can be seen in the first few pages of this thread. The premine giveaway was very effective at bringing thousands of new people in to DigiByte in the first couple of weeks.

On a separate, but related note, it's also worth reminding that 99.5% of all DigiByte mining is done in a decentralized manner.

We believe in DigiByte and have stated several times we are here for the long haul and we are committed to the long term vision and future off DigiByte. How many coins have come and gone since DigiByte launched? Thanks to everyone who supports and believes in DGB and a warm welcome to all the new DigiByte users on here!

Hi guys i've just restored a private key through the Android Digibyte wallet, I was able to send 1 dgb out of it as a test, but when i try to send them all it's saying not enough coins, (the rest are unconfirmed)
Does anyone know why this is?
Do you have the latest wallet version? PM us or email dev@digibyte.co. There are a few issues with that wallet. Mainly DigiByte transactions are so fast the original bitcoin Android wallet can't keep up... Even with several modifications. We are at block 1.3 million + while BTC is still flirting with 400k. Meaning we are paving the way and fixing issues that will soon plague and divide Bitcoin even further.

The key is to simply go fix the problem. Not start a pointless public debate when anyone can review the open source codebase in the future. #satoshi #leadership

Payout is temporarily disabled  Grin
No one knows until when this happens  Huh

Any idea if it still records kills/assits at the moment?Smiley

Yes it now records assists. We have temporarily paused payouts while we make some updates today.
