21  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "The Ethical Exchange" is Coming - Should General Bitcoin Users Trust It? on: October 01, 2011, 07:11:57 PM
Crypto X Changer is a private Australian PTY LTD company

Awesome! Buying coins in Australia has been fairly difficult recently. I hope you can make the process less painful for us Aussies.

Good luck with your launch!
22  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Help spread bitcoin awareness in 2 easy steps! on: September 21, 2011, 04:53:13 PM
I can't agree more. Reddit has a huge following of nerds that are perfect candidates to be (relatively) early adopters.
23  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [CONFIRMED] Australian Bitcoin Conference/Expo on: September 02, 2011, 07:42:12 PM
Crazy idea:

How about some kind of Bitcoin 'hunt', with a number of thumb drives hidden across the city containing BTC (enough to be newsworthy). Would probably need to give hints regarding their location.

Might be way too expensive, but wanted to throw the idea out anyway. Maybe the hunt could be sponsored to cover part (or all) of the cost.

I remember hearing a about a similar thing that happened, where a bunch of keys to new cars were hidden across the city. It generated a frenzy of people searching and a huge amount to media coverage.

I reckon it'd be a great way to generate awareness of digital currency, and demonstrate a clear benefit: that large amounts of money can be conveniently stored on small devices.
24  Other / Off-topic / Re: Moderated Bitcoin Forums? on: August 30, 2011, 03:48:40 PM
Have you thought of just using the ignore function.

The ignore function is somewhat useful.

However, the best solution I've seen is a voting system (like Reddit), where trolls get down-voted and effectively ignored. For those who are interested, I'd recommend you check the Bitcoin section on Reddit. Over 5,000 users and growing strong.

The more Bitcoin supporters on Reddit, the more publicity Bitcoin will receive (by hitting the front page etc).
25  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TED discussion - Bitcoin - Commerce without Borders on: August 29, 2011, 04:25:16 PM
Maybe a TED talk about cryptocurrency in general would be better; less "self-promotional".
26  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin PR effort on: August 26, 2011, 01:32:25 PM
Actually, I'm thinking Rick Falvinge would be ideal for TED.

Agreed! I thought he did a great job in this interview.

I've been enjoying your images Phinnaeus. Keep 'em coming.

Just posted on the Bitcoin Reddit.
29  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin PR effort on: August 26, 2011, 10:27:32 AM
We need a TED talk.

It would be amazing PR directed at the perfect demographic. Best of all: it would be free.

Anyone have any idea how to make this happen?
30  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [CONFIRMED] Australian Bitcoin Conference/Expo on: August 26, 2011, 10:18:33 AM
This is awesome.

Unfortunately I can't come, but hopefully will be there in 2012!
31  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Justin Bieber & Bitcoin on: August 18, 2011, 07:37:06 AM
Remember, JB is just an example. Can you think of another known personality this would work for?

Adolf Bitler perhaps?

I just noticed the logo on his lapel.. well done Sir.
32  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Justin Bieber & Bitcoin on: August 18, 2011, 07:34:48 AM
Charlie Sheen?

Hah! I would love to see that! Somehow I don't think he'll be interested Grin

33  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Justin Bieber & Bitcoin on: August 17, 2011, 12:17:40 AM
My first thought was: Bitcoin is not ready for JB fans.

Your idea isn't completely ridiculous; there might be another celebrity that would do this, but probably not quite yet. I reckon it should be someone that has a relatively intelligent following; not a bunch of teen girls who will just go "WTF" and forget about it. Maybe someone like Jon Stewart or Colbert.
34  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to Make Bitcoin Sexy!? on: August 16, 2011, 02:15:40 PM
tape an apple logo to it.

iCoin?
35  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A call to create a new kind of exchange on: August 13, 2011, 07:26:34 AM
No one's mentioned BitPiggy yet. It's AUD only, but I think it uses the model you're referring to. It has a very reasonable spread, and the best thing is that you pay the current price (though you might have to wait a day or two for the transaction to complete).

I highly recommend it for Aussies, and I hope it's model is replicated for other countries.

36  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Nodes on 3D Globe on: August 11, 2011, 03:44:30 PM
Great work!

None in Antarctica yet Wink
37  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Guinness World Records on: August 10, 2011, 11:46:21 AM
This would be awesome. Please keep us updated.

4. An expert witness, independent of the computing network, must attest to the
computing power.

5. Two (2) independent witnesses must attest to the computing power.

I wonder what would be considered "independent". I'd guess anyone who's not mining.

Also, "expert" is another vague one.
38  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Comic: Bank Scam, 2 versions of the same story on: August 10, 2011, 11:44:42 AM
Great comic. The returned coins certainly seem to have quelled the outrage.

Let's assume (hypothetically) that it was an inside job. They couldn't have held onto all the coins and still maintained legitimacy; they had previously claimed that most of the coins were stored offline, and therefore unhackable. Returning half was a smart move.
39  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Possible Bitcoin Loss/Theft scenario/situations and solutions on: August 09, 2011, 05:07:27 PM
this should be stickied.

Agreed! Perhaps it should replace the "Trojan Wallet stealer be careful" sticky?
40  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Republic Of Bitcoin on: August 07, 2011, 11:53:39 AM
FTW! Sound monetary policy coming from Gideon Gono?? The world has truly turned upside down  Shocked

I'm glad I haven't renounced my citizenship yet.

Talking about yourself in the third person there?
