61  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: my linux box was hacked today and almost 400 BTC were stolen! on: June 23, 2011, 02:58:11 PM
This is why they invented Clearcoin.

Clearcoin doesn't solve anything. Both buyers and sellers can scam the other using Clearcoin.
I don't see how anyone can really scam each other through it.
I've used it now once and asked the other person to donate to charity if I don't deliver so It's lose/lose.

Am I right in saying however that if after 30 days they are returned to your wallet if not released but by that time you would surely file a complaint with clearcoin and show them proof you delivered what was asked  Huh
62  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: Selling Mining Rig with 2x 5850's for BTC on: June 21, 2011, 11:27:58 AM
Would you maybe be interested in some sort of part exchange for my macbook pro I'm selling in another thread here.

Could you maybe show me some sort of e-bay id confirmation as I am doing as well as it may get rid of a few troll posts.
You can message me on there and I'll reply back so we know who each other are.
63  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: Forget e-bay. Selling my Macbook pro 15.4 Inch" for 70 BTC (over 500 feedback) on: June 21, 2011, 11:19:25 AM
Just back from a weekend away and seem to have missed all the craziness that's been going on around here.

As I was just saying to one potential customer I think the price will host so if you want to get yourself a bargain now is the time.
Deal I'm working through is for 65btc so if you can match that or better it let me know

*Edit* alternatively I am also looking to build a mining rig as I only pay < $0.05 KwH and I see a lot of mining equipment coming up here so if someone is looking to get out of mining I may be interested in a swap.
*Edit*

67  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mt. Gox under ddos attack? on: June 14, 2011, 01:43:56 PM
makes you wonder who would be behind such attacks as I doubt the usual perpetrators of ddos such as anonymous have anything against bitcoin.

In fact dont they take their donations in bitcoin.
Feds maybe? or will I get my tinfoil hat Grin
68  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: iMac's any good for mining (radon 9600) ? on: June 14, 2011, 01:33:07 PM
Cant tell you about the Imac but don't bother using your macbook for mining.
It's probably going to cost you more in electricity than you will make in BTC.

On the other hand if you are looking for another one I'm selling mine to invest in BTC in the marketplace.
Sorry for the shameless plug  Smiley
69  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: Forget e-bay. Selling my Macbook pro here for BTC (over 500 feedback) on: June 14, 2011, 12:52:26 PM
price?

70BTC assuming the price stays between the $18-22 range..

I'll post worldwide but will have to ask you pay the difference between US and international shipping.

*Edit* I just looked at your acution site Richterg, It look's really good however my only issue would be with the current instability in BTC price creating a 3 day listing could see my $amount change massively.
If you had a system where I could optionally choose to sell my item where the auction price would be a reflecton on the current BTC price I would be much more interested.

71  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Portable Air conditioning on: June 14, 2011, 04:28:30 AM
I was thinking the of doing something similar as I have free electricity.
My house is always way hotter inside than out in the summer so would venting the A/C out the window really be inefficient.
I'd imagine having it pointed at my two rigs would help a lot?
72  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Guidelines for building a mining rig on: June 14, 2011, 04:25:15 AM
Thanks for this, took me a while to figure out this information by myself but I pretty much formed the same opinion but it's nice to see it all put together in front of you
73  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Forget e-bay. Selling my Macbook pro 15.4 Inch" for 70 BTC (over 500 feedback) on: June 14, 2011, 03:38:04 AM
Hi all.

Selling/Trading in my macbook pro to invest in bitcoin since It's pretty much useless for mining and I have an Imac which does my mining.

I've sold/bought on e-bay for many years but since I'm now getting into bitcoin I'm thinking why bother paying them a percentage just to get money to buy coins and instead I'll support the currency I want to invest in by selling through it.

So here is a screenshot of my paypal account where I've been a member there for over 10 years.
Anyone who wishes to buy can send me their e-bay username in a pm or send me a message on e-bay and I will reply so you know it's me.

Comes with a box and an original charger + MacOS install CDs, it's pretty much in pristine, new-like condition, no scuffs, no marks, looks new (bought in August 2010)

The only slight issue I see vs ebay/paypal is the price fluctuations of BC so I reserve the right to chance the price once a day.
Either that or we agree to pay the current market price in BC with a price tag of $1500

I will be putting it on e-bay as well with a slightly higher price tag because if possible I would like to do a deal in BC

Sorry guys but I cant seem to figure this out at all.

I installed GPU4WIN
Ran Cleopatra, generated a certificate got this message

"Certificate created successfully.
Fingerprint: 0BBC15F2E98BBAB77BAE2F89D9F9EEC06DA385B7" (NOT ACTUAL)
Went to http://pgp.mit.edu/ and tried to submit the above code.

Then get this message "Error handling request
Error handling request. Exception raised: Failure("Error while decoding ascii-armored key: text terminated before reaching PGP public key header line") "

I know there is still more to do after this but have I done something wrong so far

Setting this up is proving to be quite difficult :/
75  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Will tip BTC for good info/suggestions on the hardware I'm about to buy on: June 09, 2011, 09:57:48 PM
Just a observation (and something I want to know myself)

The motherboard your buying has 2 x16 slots for your two cards...Fair enough
But in the stats on them it says one is x16 and one is x4

Quote
PCI Express 2.0 x16
2 (x16, x4)

Does this mean one slot is slower and therefore if your using this for gaming does it mean your going to lose performance on one of your cards

It means that when both slots are in use, they will run at x16 and x4 respectively.  The actual performance difference in games between an x4 and x16 slot is somewhere between 2-10% depending on the game and card used.

Find a sub $200 x16/x16 board is near impossible.  x8/x8 would be the better option, but in reality a user would likely not notice much of a difference.

Ahh.. OK thanks for explaining

However I'll see your Sub $200 and raise you this

OP this had 4 x16 slots incase you ever decide to expand your mining rig with another card or two..No mods needed
76  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Type of PCIe Slot on: June 09, 2011, 09:51:00 PM
I'm creating a thread here to help with just this sort of thing.
http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=14182.0

If you come up with a good find you can maybe add your motherboard to it Wink

If people could give the name and feedback on the cards they are using I can add details to the list and then we can have a mighty motherboard reference thread
