Playing internet poker tends to take my mind off of everyday life.

Otherwise some music or a good movie along with a few Jack n Coke's never hurt anybody.

7  Other / Off-topic / Re: what do you think about electric cars? on: August 05, 2018, 10:28:44 PM
If you live in a region with coal generated power then your supposedly green electric car is likely causing more polution than a gas powered car.  It takes twice as much energy to make an electric vehicle so the second it hits the street it already has a larger carbon footprint and depending on type of power used to charge the car it could be worse for the evironment.

While I'm normally pretty fond of being close to the beach, for some reason I've always had a strange desire to live in Nashville.

Don't take your health for granted.

Don't pick a job based on how much you think you can make, find something you are truly passionate about and find a way to make a living off of it.  You'll be miserable your whole life if you don't enjoy your work.

Save/Invest while you are young.  No matter how small can afford it makes a big difference later.

Don't let Monday ruin your Sunday.

In a perfect world yes, but politics of the world pretty much makes that impossible.  How could you possible get everyone to agree/comply?
12  Other / Off-topic / Re: Are you infavor of same sex marraige?Why? on: July 31, 2018, 11:45:10 PM
How in the world can people be so ignorant as to assume that children in same sex marriage will grow up psychologically damaged?  Do people actually have some scientific study showing this?  Otherwise I'll just assume its nothing more than personal opinion and hyperbole.

At least with the religious argument I get where people are coming from, I personally don't agree with them, but I at least understand why they are against it and its not just some bizarre random bias towards people who are different from them.

I personally don't think we have the right to tell people who they can and cannot love and marry.  As long as they are not hurting you, why in the world would you even care who they marry?
13  Other / Off-topic / Re: Infidelity may be forgiven or not? on: July 29, 2018, 01:32:29 PM
It's obviously going to be on the person who was cheated on whether or not they can truly forgive and forget something like that.  I know some people who were able to get past it and still have a happy marraige.  I don't think I personally could do it.  I might try to forgive for the sake of my kids/family but I think I would personally just be so disgusted by the act that I would probably never be able to truly let it go and forgive.  I feel like every time you have a fight about anything that is the kind of thing that would always come up again.
14  Other / Off-topic / Re: Reincarnation on: July 29, 2018, 01:27:19 PM
I think that it's similar to belief in God/Heaven/Hell/etc. which is just that people don't want to believe that when we die that is the end.  There is some kind of inherent need within us to want to believe in life after death.  Either to ease the pain of lost loved ones or maybe to ease the fear of death ourselves.  Many people just choose to believe their is some form of life after death probably because its easier to live with that than the alternative.
15  Other / Off-topic / Re: Are there good sides in a war? on: July 29, 2018, 01:15:32 PM
People often talking about how USA was the good and Japan was the evil in World War 2, but when you see the history of every country involved, you start to find hard to take sides in any conflict, even though I hate nazis I can't see the Russians or Brittish or French as the good side, those were all imperialistic countries that killed and enslaved millions of people before Hitler, and kept doing so after he was gone. I believe one the biggest reasons for Hitler's rise into power was exactly Great Britain and France foreigner politics.
With regards to the Second World War and almost every other war, the aggressor is the one who brought the war and therefore the bad side, the Japanese did a preemptive strike on the USA though they were not officially in the war.
That does not make sense at all, so every independent country in the new world and africa were the bad guys declaring war in their colonizers? Also, in the Second World War the United States was more than involved with trade routes and aiding England in the war effort. The Japanese saw no other way to win the conflict but to attack first, by the way things were playing out, they had no other choice. It was attacking or being suffocated by the Allies policy.

Their other choice was to stop invading other countries during their aggressive global expansion attempts.  Japan's actions were condemned by the League of Nations so they withdrew from the organization and continued their efforts.  The US thought they were still negotiating in good faith with Japan when the attack on Pearl Harbor played out.  I get that just from a strategic standpoint, the only way to continue their world conquest was to control the Pacific and to do that they had to take out the US Pacific fleet so their only chance was the element of surprise but saying they had no other choice isn't really accurate IMHO.  They were pretty clearly the aggressors in the conflict  so they had plenty of chances to end things peacefully.

I'm fairly agnostic.  I don't think anyone can say for sure yes or no.  I've always leaned more towards the no side.  As I get older I really want to believe but in my mind I just find it too difficult to accept.  I think for people that have lost someone close to them its just easier to believe that they will get to see them again.

18  Other / Off-topic / Re: Some parents can't say no to their children. on: July 26, 2018, 02:41:03 AM
I find it easier to be a good disciplinarian with my boys than with my daughter.  I'm not sure if its cause they are older than her or just cause they are boys but I can tell them no when I need to but my daughter just owns me and she knows it.  Gives me the pouty look and I usually can't say no.

20  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to stop being lazy??? on: July 25, 2018, 02:25:01 AM
I find making lists helps me overcome laziness.  At the beginning of each week or each day make a list of what you would like to accomplish.  There is a certain strange satisfaction to crossing things off for me that keeps me motivated to move onto the next item when I finish something.  Like an odd determination to get to the bottom of the list.  Without it I find it too easy to get distracted watching TV or posting on Bitcoin forums.   Wink
