481  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: June 09, 2014, 08:56:03 PM
The closed source problem is no different than NXT a few short months ago.
Keep it closed source for as long as you like, dev. Retain the first mover advantage. Release when good and ready. No hurry.  Cool
Agreed. Evan should maintain a closed source pipeline. Keep the latest tech closed until it's ready for release. The copy coins will always be behind the development curve.
It keeps the douchedevs and their shitcoins exposed. This is the reason I argued for longer time-to-open 1200 pages ago. This isn't 2009 and Satoshi already made BTC... It's different now.

it is no different - market PAYS for open-source first mover advantage, always everywhere. the shitcoins can clone as much as they want, they will never reach the originals implementation - in my opinion dark makes two significant errors: it concentrates too little on ring signature with the promise of adding something better + keeping it closed sourced.

I am not trolling but I could start singing a farewell - not for short term, but for mid and long term
482  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - Secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - Vote on Mintpal on: June 09, 2014, 08:10:17 PM
I gave my vote and will probably even donate if this is the normal business behaviour and helps the project to succeed - I just was somewhat surprised that this is "normal" for adding a currency to a bigger exchange, thanks for clarification keyboard-mash.

Higher liquidity would be helpful and also the argument of not being a closed group with a small exchange is good. if it is consensus to get it on mintpal I am with the community.
483  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - Secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - Vote on Mintpal on: June 09, 2014, 06:48:58 PM
wow - they receive payments for adding coins? just wow - I see the advantage of additional liquidity and the critique is not against the community. it is against the behaviour of mintpal to receive money for adding coins.

maybe I am naive but I believe in cryptocurrencies future and especially in projects which offer something which is worth investing. why does mintpal does not chose the coins traded on their exchange by themselves?
484  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BBR] Boolberry [ANONYMOUS | CRYPTONOTE | ADDR ALIASES | NO IPO/PREMINE] on: June 09, 2014, 06:32:15 PM
boolberry is moving in the right direction Smiley - good to see

funny that there is so little liquidity in the markets
485  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - Secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - Vote on Mintpal on: June 09, 2014, 06:23:29 PM
Hello, I'm glad to finally be a part of the beginnings of Monero. I see huge potential, and can't wait for it to be fully unleashed!

Mintpal voting here I come:  https://www.mintpal.com/voting#XMR
151 votes, we are almost in the middle of the list now.

is this bs really neccessary? - I mean seriously how do all these sh..coins get so many votes?

maybe monero should wait until mintpal adds them by themselves

I also think it is not neccessary to get this in the title
486  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BBR] Boolberry [ANONYMOUS | CRYPTONOTE | ADDR ALIASES | NO IPO/PREMINE] on: June 07, 2014, 04:59:41 PM
good to see that the dev is working on a gui - this project is somewhat to small for the expected utility.
487  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - Secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: June 05, 2014, 02:53:31 PM
Another reason why darkcoin will be successful.  Picked this up from the NXT forum:

Quote
new irs rules appear to require disclosure of every bitcoin tx
this means usa is totally deanonymizing the bitcoin addresses
they will be able to map all bitcoin addresses with significant funds to a social security number

picked that in the darkcoin thread, cannot say if right or wrong. - for a non-computer scientist: this is the crux of cryptonotes isn't it? that there is no tx? Please correct me if I am wrong.

Bitcoin is possibly moon bound after this....fresh out in the last couple of hours.

do not want to hate here or anything - I still have quite a few darks which I bought early.

The big competitor for dark is NOT existing coins adding coin mixtures, the big competitors are cryptonotes who really offer trustless anonymity.

For me it was a huge turn down when evan said that he is not implementing ring signature - I see his reasoning (it basically makes the economic model of masternodes useless), but still think it is a failure not to add it.

Evan says he has something better than ring signatures.  Ring signatures are good for anonymity but they bloat up the block chain (up to 8x of bitcoin) and that will be a major barrier to any kind of large scale adoption.

If Evan's solution is 95% as anonymous and saves us from the bloat then we would be the clear choice over the cryptonote clones from a technical perspective.  His solution is planned for RC4 (July). Good things come to those that wait...

I am using cryptonote coins to get acquainted with them... too many problems... ram use, bloated blockchain, problematic transactions due to size limit, all-around-scaling issues in terms of cpu/ram/disk requirement, problematic adoption from exchanges/merchants etc... the only thing that seems fixable is the gui. All the rest need heavy modification or redesign to even be usable. And that's on a technical level, because on an economic level the inflation of cryptonote coins is killing the investors and those who hedged DRK with them.

I think both drk and cryptonote coins have the same opponent: a cryptonote v2 coin that solves the first generation issues and retains or even improves the anonymity capabilities. And even then it will have the question of "is it robust and safe?" - because it's a new blockchain that hasn't been time-tested as well as bitcoin has.

I think you are undermining XMR somewhat. The developments of a theoretical v2 will keep getting merged to v1, not to mention it is the v1 guys who have the capability and network effect to innovate for a v2 to begin with.

Short term inflation is the main problem. Blame it on the hastily released "Bitmonero", the developer didn't take community's feedbacks into account.

finally we move this thread back to a quality discussion Smiley - thanks for the input. regarding moneros short term inflation - it is a ethical question which in my opionon is impossible to answer with good or bad: it depends on the objectives.

I do not disrespect evans approach to make a coin (artificially) scarce for a high market cap. despite the positive side effect that your investment gets worth more there is also the effect that it secures the project by a huge hashing power. the third point is that there is not much use for an altcoin besides trading, so his idea of masternodes was very good.

but I can also follow the logic of the distribution of monero - it is probably not in short term giving huge reward (it is arguable if that is good or bad), but it is helping to get a wide user base - additionally they are STAYING to their social contract, which is in altcoins also remarkable. if you follow the development of their hashing power, you also see an exponential rise.

from an investors perspective it does not matter that much long term which project succeeds. I suspect the anonymous coin(s) winning that race to have a market cap around 10-25% of bitcoin.

let us see where this ship is going. I made my decision which project will probably succeed but I am open to different opinions.
490  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - Secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: June 05, 2014, 12:45:46 PM
Why should I invest in this coin, what makes it better than other coins?

You can trade it and try to make a profit that way...

exactly, nothing new here - just the usual pump and dump  Grin

bcnext or whatever the name of the initial distributor was is as unknown as satoshi - I doubt this will be an issue in the future.

anyway I think that Proof of Stake is great for blockchain application other than currency - I'm not a friend of Daniel Larimer but his argument not to overpay security and his approach to make blockchain technology profitable is worth mentioning.

for currencies it is more useful if there is another way to get them as to buy them - we can argue if that is or is not the case for bitcoin
493  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty - Pioneering Peer-to-Peer Finance - Official Thread on: June 04, 2014, 08:19:13 PM
Hello Counterparty community,

We are proud to inform you that the XBet.IO application (formerly CounterSports) is now live on mainnet at https://xbet.io.
Testnet is still available on http://testnet.xbet.io
We would like to thank everyone that has helped us run tests and shared his thoughts and ideas with us.

xnova and jahpowerbit are working on enhancing Counterwallet and in a few hours will enable users to use the website fully and in a secure manner. That is when we will make our official announcement.

love to see a post on r/bitcoin for the upcoming fifa world championships: use the bitcoin blockchain for trustless/decentralized betting.

great that you guys managed to get it started before the world championships Smiley
494  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is CounterParty (XCP) severely undervalued? on: June 03, 2014, 08:55:26 PM
the reasoning given by alex is probably not the worst one  Grin

I made a statement regarding counterparty a billion times in this forum: it is without a doubt one of the best projects regarding, capability, fairness, openess, innovation, driven by excellent and intelligent developers. until now it lacked marketing, but I think they now have the right guy for that.

I do not think this needs to become an advertisment thread, the underlying currency xcp is UNTIL NOW only in small use, this is given by the developers dogma what can be done with bitcoins, will be done with bitcoins. xcp can be taken in escrow and until now it was not neccessary - hopefully this will change once decentralized betting starts.

so far it is a promising project with high ethics - let's see where their underlying currency will go.

I hold it ultra long term so I basically do not care for short term pricing.
495  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: June 03, 2014, 01:48:56 PM
I think I have never seen more FUD against a coin than against darkcoin.

And I was there when NXT launched Cheesy

If the project succeeds and Evan manages to get it all well implemented - it will be around ltcs market cap.

If he fails this will be where aurora is now.
496  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: June 03, 2014, 01:39:06 PM
Anyone has an opinion on boolberry coin? it seems to be based on bytecoin as well, but it would be a good idea for someone who study other similar coins to compare and it was launched on 17 of may... The price is pretty high in my opinion for less then a month coin, but again I don't really understand pros/cons here...

it is not exactly a clone - bought the same amount of bool pre exchange as I did with monero.

the developer is given credit by the monero developers.

in case two ring signature projects succeed, for me it is likely that it is monero and boolberry.
497  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BBR] Boolberry [ANONYMOUS | CRYPTONOTE] 2 EXCHANGES on: June 03, 2014, 01:10:51 PM
you guys are aware that this is a baby coin and it is the second day on an exchange?

the developer has so far shown a great effort in improving the cryptonight code - even the mro guys are showing him respect in this thread, the whitepaper of van saberhagen is probably the greatest improvement so far in cryptocurrencies since satoshis whitepaper.

the attitude to rate (!) projects after less than 4 weeks because they are not pumped and promoted like shit is just terrible.

bbr has a marketcap of around 150(!) btc - do your own conclusion if this is time to buy or sell
498  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BBR] Boolberry [ANONYMOUS | CRYPTONOTE] 2 EXCHANGES on: June 02, 2014, 11:55:24 PM
as long as zoidberg does not reject his project nothing is wrong
499  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: The Official Mastercoin Foundation, Master Protocol & Mastercoin Thread on: June 02, 2014, 10:36:05 PM
since the market it so immature and therefore illiquid

is there ANY rationale reason that it is only traded on a small exchange, which only trades msc and maidsafe?
500  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BBR]Boolberry[ANONYMITY&UNLINKABILITY|PoW-BCHAIN-BASED]LAUNCHED on: June 02, 2014, 10:17:44 PM
this is the most funniest price I have ever seen on a project

is it THAT profitable to mine?

My profit  calculation says, that this coin is profitable 10 to 100 times, depens on his fluctuationing  hashrate.
This profitability is calculation on homecomputer electricity cost, not cloudmining.

I think this is at this time the most profitable coin to mine.

at the currently hashrate it is profitable to mine until 0.01 to 0.2$ , so about 1500 to 30,000 Satoshi´s.
current price is 140,000 Satoshi´s

no wonder its getting just dumped to hell. only a few ppl know how to mine so their making a killing. wonderful

Why wonderfull?

the hight price came from the early BBR Trading Thread: [https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=616391.0
only 20,000 coins were out and everyone want to buy.
On the same time MRO hit Polonix and skyrocket.

it was sarcasm
this coin is a joke and obviously premined or instamined b/c i bought a little bit and 30 minutes later its 60% down and now its like 70% down and ppl still dumping 1+ bitcoin worth. this coins a fucking scam
ppl wouldnt just dump, especially in high volume immediatly after its already down 70% unless they got the coins for free from a fucking scam and dont give a shit they just want what they can get and than be done

are you guys capable of reading?

it is UBER profitable to mine at current prices - some people have different objectives. i bought a few preexchange and obviously paid quite a high price - but it is with mro the most promising project in ring signature projects
