3  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What card to get? on: June 20, 2011, 12:48:49 PM
Sorry for my newbie question, i have never been a gamer or hardware upgrading addicted so i don't know anything about video cards!
I see the hardware comparison page on the BitCoin wiki and i see that ATI 6990 are the best, is it right?
On some rows i see 6990x2 or 6990x3, what do they mean?

Thank you.

6990s are the best yet at the same time you gottta look at how expensive they are 750ish a piece. The x2 and x3 is relateing to two graphics cards running together or 3

Are you using these solely for mining or as a regular PC too?

I would also go with the first one, heres why:

The 6990 card alone can do the same as the 2 6970s in terms of Mhash/s (give a few tweaks here and there). Also powering one device as apposed to w will be less heat/power consumption. You also have the option of getting another 6990 later on if you want to add into it.

My only issue with both machines are they seem a tad expensive. If they are just miners then you can probably cut down on the motherboards and CPUs - ie not get such fancy ones and save some cash.

well if they are for gameing to he will want the nice motherboad and cpu + the ability to add multiple cards should he decide later on Smiley

gpu and pool support and wow that  version would be sick Smiley thanks alot for this though Smiley

edit
im in the exact situation except the computers (half of them) are reallly nice ones. I might be a noob but i used the editor and got the file it produced and this is where im stuck what do i do with generated file. Also another concern is since they are not pooled will you ever get anything off a cpu since its a low low chance with the power of it. Again im kinda new to all this
