Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [Nxt] To those running Nxt nodes - ***UPDATE to NRS v.1.5.10***
|

May I draw your attention to Jean-Luc's release notes from the latest stable version of Nxt's NRS software: Change log:
This is a critical bugfix release. Everyone is required to update.
Jean-Luc is good at looking out for Nxters security (like when the critical Jetty bug was announced and Jean-Luc patched Nxt within 24 hours in version 1.4.16) So.... it makes sense to listen to him When a large botnet or virus is found on many computers around the world making them vulnerable, the biggest most responsible antivirus companies have patches out very quickly and you are expected to upgrade for your own good. If not, you are putting yourself at risk as a known exploit might be used against you. This is the same situation The nodes that aren't running the latest NRS, you are at risk from a known bug. Not to try and scare you but you are putting yourself at risk when there is no need to So... moral of the story: Do the smart thing and upgrade to the latest version! You can do that here: https://nxtforum.org/nrs-releases/LATEST STABLE VERSION IS: NRS v1.5.10 as of 7th June 2015 That is all

Where are we headed with all of this guys? Is NXT destined to be a project with a lot of features but without any impactful projects utilizing its technology? I think the current price action reflects this concern.
Unlikely. We have Damelon and Evildave doing as they have always done in contacting and approaching businesses. We also have DeBuNe building tools for them. Plus many others who together have a good track record. We have the guy who is interested in 10,000 aliases per block, using Nxt as the backbone as their project. Freebieservers seems to be bearing fruit. PICISI has started his crowd funding project. Come-from-Beyonds distributed computing project is on Nxt. Jl777 was scooped up by Nxt when Ripple had no interest in his ideas. (links available upon request) The European SEC has been looking into Nxt, our name is splattered all over their call for info, as the leading crypto asset exchange (link available). The fact is, just like real life, a lot of businesses will fail. So we just need to keep attracting business ideas to Nxt and sooner or later, one will take one or a set of Nxt's features at the right time and it will click with people (crypto will have had to have reached a certain maturity too, it is still quite hard for 'average joe'. But mynxt.info's online wallet and android/iOS are great for these people). If impactful projects were easy to develop, Bitcoin would have 20 and all half decent alts would have 3 each

"No more asics...Thing green...Get 4 NXT in faucet and start forging..."
Source? Your vague accusations are getting vaguer. Also, Nxt is a technology. It can't make claims or promises, only people can. So please be specific. http://coinacademy.co/bitcoin-litecoin-nxt-2/One hundred per cent green foraging, not mining. There is no mining, NXT do not need power-hungry GPUs or asic miners, just a regular PC and NXT to start foraging for coins today. Daedelus, perhaps his conscience at work, seems to have eyesight and memory problems. Who's website is that? They use the phrase 'foraging' And which bits are factually wrong? It is green, you don't need GPUs/asics and you just need a normal PC and coins to forge. Edit: it isn't a Nxt website, it is a multicoin site aimed at training users through video courses: http://coinacademy.co/curated-collections/ Interesting idea.

Sorry, I am a little bit confused. I need to update my client. What is the most current version? I see NRS 1.4.17 and NRS 1.5.4e. Is 1.5.x the preview of 1.5 release? Update to 1.4.17. Wait until a 1.5 version is released that doesn't have an 'e' after it ('e' for experimental) before updating to that.

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is the whole point of Factom the ability to store hashes on a blockchain?

Still don't follow the distinction. Let's go back to this: Factom is attempting to make a publishing platform which is simultaneously censorship and spam resistant So you don't want people to be able to censor the valuable stuff but at the same time you don't want it clogged up with garbage. What is the size of the payload that can be published? I understand it could be large and you just publish the hash of the large data but out of interest, what is the max size?

And has anybody kept track of how many scams and thefts occurred on that platform? It is a very large number I am sure.
I'm listening. How many involved breaches or break down in Nxt's technology i.e. the algos? You know that is a very good question. Certainly there was a fiasco regarding the public key and required emergency measures to fix. But what else. There were a number of very large suspicious thefts. One of the largest forgers today is the thief who ripped off DGEX, Klee, and BTER. How did that fellow find the passkey to the nemesis block so easily? And he as the one that proclaimed that the nxt algo was secure. Shortly after that was the public key fiasco, when it was found things were not so secure. Disturbing Public key fiasco, Links? Bter theft was a weak password (his mums name? don't quote me) without any 2FA. The genesis block passphrase was a sentence from a famous book. It was intended to be found, but it surprised CfB how quickly it was. They guy who found it then went on to be a very technical and helpful consultant for Nxt's ideas. There is nothing you could ever do with the passphrase, it is just a curiosity now. TL:DR - Nxt's technology has never been hacked. Exchanges have been hacked but thefts so far are human error of one sort or other.

I'm listening. How many involved breaches or break down in Nxt's technology i.e. the algos? Given how UP trolled Nxt for well over a year, I am surprise how much of an easy ride NEM has been given. It is a testament to Nxters not to have gone off like a rocket and bitten back in the same way. No one would have blamed someone who started "NEM is premined" threads and repeated them every 2 weeks, throw in a "NEM is a SCAM with SCAM devs" pointing to UP every other month and then pepper any threads they find with "NEM is deaded? Scam coin ". Rinse and repeat. I am not saying I think these are true, I am saying that trolls don't care about the truth and rely on people not doing their own research. Not sure how NEM would have fared under the same treatment. +1 for the restraint of Nxters

Hi Gliss, Seeing as 13 of the top 20 assets are on the Nxt platform, can we have an option to dsiplay the prices on the asset page in NXT? > http://coinmarketcap.com/assets/I have an idea of what the asset prices are in my head in NXT but I have to convert from BTC (finding the current rate) to see if the prices have change much. It is very cumbersome and not very useful. Thanks Bump Native prices are on the way, haven't forgotten. Whoop whoop!
