Address represents an empty public key, which is impossible
23  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: - Fast, Guaranteed 120% Payouts on: February 18, 2014, 11:49:50 PM
While playing around with APIs I found that this Ponzi is not even the smartest "scam" if it is one.

It is (or was) sending bitcoins to a black hole:

1HT7xU2Ngenf7D4yocz2SAcnNLW7rK8d4E is a provably dead address.

You would think the blockchain would reject this as an invalid address.
24  Economy / Speculation / Re: (Poll) Will BTC break 266 on MtGox ? on: February 16, 2014, 02:34:08 PM
$288 for goxcoins versus $650 on other exchanges.  The market has spoken: what you're buying on MtGox are goxcoins, not bitcoins.  They're promises to pay you sometime in the future.  If MtGox has an over 50% discount for allegedly the same commodity then the market is saying MtGox is dead and buried.  Time to move on.

this.. Perhaps this should now be moved to altcoin discussion (TPFIC)
25  Economy / Speculation / Re: Down, down, down, down, down on: February 16, 2014, 02:08:22 PM

What I mean by "pointless" is that when you LOOSE money by mining.

I hate it when my money gets LOOSE.. I try to round it up quickly so I don't LOSE it.  Grin
26  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you listen to the radio? on: February 16, 2014, 01:47:34 PM
On the road, yes.

At home, only if there's a contest on (caller x wins tickets/cash/etc) or for traffic/severe weather/school closures.

Had Sirius/XM for a couple years. Would rather listen to my own playlist.

Whats funny is I don't think the collective value of the scams in the altcoins add up to the scams run here in bitcoins.

In fact, I've only been burned when dealing with Bitcoins. Not with Litecoins or any altcoins.

Probably because the real criminals use bitcoins.
29  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: [66] 66 Coin Buy/Sell on: February 04, 2014, 08:58:58 PM

Or will trade for 0.22 LTC (Would repost trade for you to accept - PM me)
30  Other / Meta / Re: Can we see when a thread was FIRST made? (in the board listing) on: February 04, 2014, 03:00:08 PM
Yes adding the name of the thread started (perhaps under the post title itself) would be a nice option, I don't want it added as another line though as it's already crowded.

The time the thread started? If so that's exactly what I mean.

I try to get from search "Most Recent Topics", "0 to 1 day" age, and with "coin" as a criteria (since you can't leave blank) and the results are not sorted by when the THREAD was first created.

It's impossible trying to find the newest threads.

After a week, I'm going to assume I got stiffed.

Since you can't edit outgoing messages, if any mods want to confirm that I sent 16km4N8qdBTD7Kiiem6jmJVz4cBD2HcWAN via PM I'm willing to allow. And that the address sent back to me (15...*) has never been associated with me.

33  Other / Meta / Re: The Legal Fiction Perpetuated by BitcoinTalk on: January 31, 2014, 09:31:55 PM
This thread is an entertaining read.

At one point I think I saw something about the idea that by limiting discussion of AltCoins, the board would be violating the license by not allowing the free  distribution (or something like that).

I also saw that since bitcoin forked post-satoshi, the current bitcoin is no more the original bitcoin than namecoin is (with the exception of having the same ports, etc. - Namecoin in sha256, right?)

I think I have those read correctly.

Here's my newbie 2...

- Wouldn't it be up to Satoshi to enforce the license for his work? Since he probably doesn't even exist, doesn't it make it an unenforceable license?
- On the bitcoin name, I definitely see your point. Of course it's like complaining about the flawed Monopoly trademark. Anyone could likely make a game and call it "Monopoly", and Hasbro would likely sue, and if you have enough $$ you'd actually likely win, as Hasbro has a demonstrably flawed trademark. As long as you create the elements of the game yourself, you couldn't really get hit under copyright either.
However, Just like the Public-Domain based Make Your Own-OPOLY games, even though Monopoly-Hasbro isn't "really" THE official "Monopoly" game, it still is what people think of.

On the legal side, yes, you could call ALL crypto-currencies "Bitcoin", and technically be as correct as calling Coke, Pepsi and RC all "colas" (or in the south, all "Coke" for that matter). Bitcoin could be used as generically as crypto-currency.

So you could start referring to "Lite Bitcoin" and "Doge Bitcoin" but that doesn't mean everyone will.

As far as "Bitcoin (Scrypt)" vs "Bitcoin (SHA-256)", I do think it's weird, and even if the addresses are the same format (so you could technically use the same one for both wallets), but not illegal unless you try to sell one for the other's going rate without specifying which wallet (although if you sell SHA-256 for the Scrypt price, I don't think you'd get sued).

Any of this make sense?
34  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Simple way to get address balance ? on: January 29, 2014, 04:43:24 PM
I've been playing around trying to make it Client-Side here:

Only BTC works because the others don't have CORS enabled (even Litecoin)...

It's incredibly messy right now with comments and such.. And really is very early.

Obviously Bitcoin doesn't exactly work this way, wallet balance is more valuable than address balance, but I was bored.

Very cool jsFiddle btw.. For some reason I couldn't get the JSON to work (I think I tried before I put the CORS), so I went old-school and parsed it. I also did the received-sent in order to try to get it to work on other currencies.. But without CORS they're useless.

That address is not what I sent. A quick search shows that address belongs to "delaro"

Who doesn't appear to have posted in this thread.

I sent:

Good luck, looks like those others are very aggressive!

I reviewed under Herb R.

I'm still assuming this is just a misunderstanding.
37  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Giveaway threads are not allowed on: January 28, 2014, 05:09:45 AM
I think some of the confusion/backlash came from a disagreement from the title "Giveaway threads are not allowed" and the beginning of the post, "Most Giveaway threads are no longer allowed"

From the OP, Giveaway threads are still allowed IF you don't solicit posts on the threads (including "post your address") or some other board-spamming technique.

Otherwise, as the OP says, have people go off-site to fulfill the giveaways.

That said I like the quasi-solution of using the other board.

I'm too tired to look up what I'm talking about.

Not that anyone cares what I think.

Good night.
38  Other / Meta / Re: [Petition][POLL] Make new section for giveaways/tasks. on: January 28, 2014, 02:44:39 AM

Perhaps if giveaway threads required claims to be off-site or "Twitter/FB/Website" based, it would have removed a lot of the problems.

You can do giveaways off-site and link to the giveaway page in a thread
That's what he said.

I'm sure those determined to annoy will keep doing it.

They can, they'll get banned for it though.

Point taken. I didn't read the "Most" in "Most giveaway threads". I was thinking it was "All"..

I had seen the "link to another page" when I read it, it just didn't sink in.

I think the rule makes sense, just think it would have made sense to give a 24 hour heads up or something. No reason to stir up a hornets nest.

Of course this is basically a den of thieves, with most of the worst of them in the Bitcoin sections - selling and trading BCT accounts , scamming on real transactions (instead of the fakey AltCoin ones)...

40  Other / Meta / Re: [Petition][POLL] Make new section for giveaways/tasks. on: January 27, 2014, 07:30:50 PM
I think the "reply with your address" spam bumped threads to the top of the "Unread posts since your last visit" and honestly it annoyed me.

It looks a bit more interesting now.

Perhaps if giveaway threads required claims to be off-site or "Twitter/FB/Website" based, it would have removed a lot of the problems.

The "reply with address" is just the laziest way to do it and the path of least resistance.

A sub-forum that is excluded from the unread posts or has solid rules (like "no rewarding board actions, including reply or post your address") would make sense.

I mean, what about the "Off-Topic" board? Or rewarding altcoin activity with Satoshis? I'm sure those determined to annoy will keep doing it.
