It only takes one "traitor" to accept the transaction and with a big enough fee someone with a block mining capability will do it. SInce the fund is >25kBTC a fee of 25 (one block reward) would probably be sufficient. Blacklisting will not work that well obviously. Not only the feds will have to play by Satoshi's rules, we have too... In the mean time, enjoy the new twitter for small donations service they have arranged for us, we all have to chip in in these times of hardships and defaults. https://blockchain.info/address/1F1tAaz5x1HUXrCNLbtMDqcw6o5GNn4xqX?offset=50&filter=0

I like this idea.
3d world application would be useful if you can get both your salary and pay for stuff at the market without owning a computer.
1) Salary is deposited onto account via employer.
2) Assuming a function where you can select how much you want to spend, pay for groceries etc. the sales person would get an sms confirming the transaction.
3) The vendor or day worker can double check now and then, that the bitcoins are ending up at his or her bitcoin address (requires computer or phone call / sms to any trusted person with a computer)
Largest advantage, you could use old phones for this. very low bandwidth, extremely high compatibility.
Largest problem would be fluctuations in the exchange rate.

I'm curious what the fault was, was it unstable clock signal as suspected before or was it something more trivial, like wiring misstakes, software issues etc. ?
Would be fun to see pictures of the (now working) dead bug :-)

\O/ \O/ \O/
I saw a 782 BTC transfer to some address, btcs are really transparent for being anonymous cash :-)
I kinda like this setup more and more, people can check in and out with their bitcoins at anytime, so there is no need for strict deadlines or committments until the 10000 chip target is reached.
Kinda like, "Yeah you can put your coins here for a while but if you come at fill-up time we might just use them to order chips"

There seems to be a market saturation, only this many crazy people around :-)

Don't panic guys didn't you know the white nights who say Ni, has come from Wall St. (tm) to help us :-)

Hej!

Who is actually in charge of such a descision btw?

I believe there might be an analytical crack before that happened, remember MD5 was broken by a clever algorithm in 2006 but is still unavailable for brute-force attacks.

Putting a *like* on this thread, since I have a score to settle with the academia...
