This is breaking down and BFX still does "investigate a platform issue"... Grrr... PS. Looks like it's holding for now, we'll see tomorrow morning... BFX has investigated the platform issue, discovered an internal network issue, and is now working on recovering from it. The last issue was solved in about an hour. This one's taking a little longer to solve but BFX will probably be back online soon. edit] The price is breaking back up again. https://bitfinex.statuspage.io/Platform issues
Update - Working on recovering from an internal network issue. Jun 20, 22:19 UTC
Identified - Trading has been paused while we investigate an infrastructure issue impacting the trading engine. The issue does not involve funds or system security. We will resume normal operations as soon as possible. Jun 20, 21:35 UTC
Investigating - We are experiencing platform issues. We are investigating and will resume normal operations as soon as possible. Jun 20, 21:11 UTC

WTF only BTC880 on Finex till $700 and BTC785 till $850 where did the order book go? trade has been halted for about 10m no news yet.... pray china doesnt do anything in the meantime. Bitfinex twitter: "We are experiencing platform issues. We are investigating and will resume normal operations as soon as possible." Did the CEO of bitcoin just turn off bitcoin? I thought that bitcoin could not be turned off? Edit: Here, I found this statement from Bitfinex: "Trading has been paused while we investigate an infrastructure issue impacting the trading engine. The issue does not involve funds or system security. We will resume normal operations as soon as possible.? I noticed crazy walls getting put up in both directions immediately before trading halted. They looked like the walls on OKcoin where all you get is two almost vertical lines with no gap in-between them. I felt something was wrong because walls like that don't happen on bitfinex.

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ETH hardfork incoming.

If I am a miner, I will support the soft fork and freeze the stolen funds. If the DAO holders offer us 50% of the stolen funds, we will do a hard fork.
If the miners can benefit from the hacking like this and the hacker does not benefit, he may think twice before his next hacking. Other miners will mine more profitably by accepting his offer and thus have a greater hashrate.Checkmate. Your vote has been economically overridden. Andreas and Emin getting frantic and grasping for straws: https://twitter.com/el33th4xor/status/74476993273962496090% of the miners accepts the soft fork. You can see in the http://ethpool.org/stats/votes. But the result is not final yet. Try again to understand what I wrote. The set of miners is open and unbounded. Anyone can decide to become a miner today and accept the hacker's more lucrative offer. Isn't the hashing power each miner has more important than the number of miners who support a fork? If a miner with a GPU farm comprising 100 GPUs rejects the fork he could have 100 times more influence than a miner with one GPU.

i thought Linux viruses were very rare because you need to give them privileges to do anything. I have not heard of tails yet.

Community will be there once we see that something is actually happening. We currently have nothing, not even twitter.
I did try to help out, but Dev looked like you had no interest to make it to a success, anyway I sold almost all my planet today what was still left. Wish you all GL Thanks for the person who bought up to 200+sat today Same here. Gave 10k to the faucet and sold rest. I can not be bothered with a coin where dev cant even do as much as open a twitter account or anything. So same from here, good luck to you all. I'm out too, planetcoin's not going to take off without an active dev.

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: IRC IMPERSONATION SCAMS
|
on: March 30, 2015, 07:10:02 PM

There is a thread about a similar thing happening to digitalcoin. Here is the OP quoted. Happened to Digitalcoin, Bittrex, and a few other coins from what I can follow so far.
Someone, or some group, is making the rounds on IRC with variations of trusted coin community members nicks and contacting people asking for coins (to pump, for some project, etc.) as a loan for a few hours.
In our specific case, someone used kenei (with capital i instead of L) to fraudulently obtain crypto property under false pretenses from our channel members (in arial font they look identical).
This is a Class H felony in the United States.
The funds are deposited directly to a Bittrex account, sold immediately for BTC and withdrawn before anyone realizes this is a scam. Bittrex seems unable to help us but is aware of the situation.
As a warning, I'd like to make sure everyone is (a) aware that this scam is going on, and (b) that members of our Digitalcoin Foundation will NEVER ask for any coins from any person as a loan
Be careful out there....it's easy to get caught up in this if you aren't paying attention. Verify before sending or doing anything. These people seem to know exactly who to impersonate and exactly who to contact that would be trustful of whom they are impersonating. They are even likely idling in your channel right now.
Not sure what else I can do other than warn people of this. Let me know if anyone has any ideas -- I take this personally as it was my name used in this fraudulent scheme.

I dont think its the bears, its just simply returning to a reasonable price after the price was fraudulently manipulated to $1000+ by gox.
Its done this before when it crashed from $30 to $2.

I feel terrible for those who lost bitcoins, but if they return the alts it would be a good thing. I lost a few dollars worth of bitcoins there that I only deposited a few days ago. They were immediately moved to the cold wallet ater I sent them so I doubt I will ever get them back.

What is the downside of pre-mining? OneCoin has just started their closed source mining on Jan 20 and has already mined 550,000 of their own coins. They claim that this mining internal of their own network is only a way to make it "fair" for the network. They plan to mine the majority of their own coins prior to going public and are still not in an exchange.
Bottom line question: What is the best way for newbies to cut their teeth in cryptocurrency?
I don't know about others think about premining. For me, it creates a sense of feeling whereby there is an unfair advantage so it leads to a loss of confidence in the coin itself. If the dev keeps all the premine for himself I agree it creates a sense of feeling whereby there is an unfair advantage. There are POS coins where the premine is distributed among many people, which seems OK to me, but that is not the case here.

I'm interested to see after the halving what would be the impact towards the coin price. And more interesting is when the 100 billion cap has been reached.
The miners still get a tiny amount to dump after the 100 billion cap but I'm hoping the price goes up afterwards. It's not a hard cap, technically the miners still get a tiny reward afterwards.

well i see paycoin is taking a massive crash course here in last 48 hours. I am not sure why seems like it went up good for some time then drop some to the 29 level and then took back off to 47 level. Now it is just like a dead fish in the water at 20 just doing nothing and nobody wanting it It bounced a few times on the way down. I think it will fall much further with more bounces.
