The Spectrecoin Foundation CIC released the production version of Spectrecoin v4.x today on our GitHub repo. This release will activate a planned hard-fork on Friday 27/09/2019 (27th September 2019) @ 2000 hours (GMT) (1569614400 unix epoch time) and this is a MANDATORY upgrade and you will need to get the v4.x wallet up and running ahead of the hard-fork to be able to continue staking. Spectrecoin v4 will generate a one-time 3,000,000 XSPEC staking reward for The Spectrecoin Foundation CIC at address SSGCEMb6xESgmuGXkx7yozGDxhVSXzBP3a to cover increasing development costs.

I think that we are still building the foundations we need to stand on if we are to survive into to future. There is no point in having lofty goals if you can't deliver. We and most other crypto projects have such a limited reach and I am sure that 99.9% of the population has never even heard of Spectrecoin or even Monero. Most people don't read Bitcointalk, Discord or watch the Twitter or read the newsletters. I think we need to secure funding, retain good developers and then marketing needs to happen.

In any case, in order to get used as payment, we need to get listed on major exchanges and do that we need trade volume but nobody is trading. Then there are all the AML / KYC regulations, not so much for us, but for any legit business that would work with us.

It's all well and good to say that we want to be this and that, but we also need a realistic way to get there.

Have you ever had similar project here at BCT? Seems like I've already seen such project here. Maybe i am mistaken though...

There has never been a project with anonymous staking via ring signatures, we are the first with that.  Grin

NEW EXCHANGE

Txbit.io: https://txbit.io/Trade/XSPEC/BTC (anon SPECTRE in/out + trade)

This exchange is a NO-KYC exchange and you only need an e-mail to trade SPECTRE.

Please have a quick look at the link below for some more info:

https://news.spectreproject.io/spectre-at-txbit-io/

Also, if you are unfamiliar with the Spectrecoin dual-coin system please have a look at the white-paper (pages 14-15):

https://spectreproject.io/Spectrecoin_White-Paper.pdf

In this day and age with increasing surveillance and KYC procedures, we encourage everyone to support these rare exchanges so we can continue to trade in private in the future.

Spectrecoin 3.0.12 has been released and is now available

This release fixes a critical oversight introduced in the 3.0.10 release which lead to an unintentional fork on block 1,232,433. This was possible because a node staked the exact same ATXO (SPECTRE output) with the same wallet.dat on different network nodes. Normally one chain would win and the other blocks would become orphaned. In this case because of the oversight, a minority of 3.0.10 and 3.0.11 wallets which received the later orphaned block before the block of the main chain, continued to stake the fork.

We informed the exchanges and to our knowledge they have always been on the main chain.

Please update your node to 3.0.12 as soon as possible. The wallet will check if you are on the main chain and if not abort with a corresponding message.

We are truly sorry for this inconvenience.

Spectrecoin 3.0.10 has been released and is now available on [Github](https://github.com/spectrecoin/spectre/releases)

This release fixes the Tor shutdown issue on Linux (https://github.com/spectrecoin/spectre/issues/173) and the ‚Fake stake block spam attack vector‘ widely known since its publication on Medium: https://medium.com/@dsl_uiuc/fake-stake-attacks-on-chain-based-proof-of-stake-cryptocurrencies-b8b05723f806

The article presented two vulnerabilities:
- Vulnerability #1: “I Can’t Believe it’s not Stake”
- Vulnerability #2 and the Spent Stake attack

Spectrecoin was never vulnerable to #1 and fixes now #2 with the following measures:
- Upon receiving a block before persisting to disc, it is checked that the UTXO or ATXO staked is not spent in the best chain.
- If the block received is part of a fork, all inputs of the forked chain are checked if they spent the staked UTXO or ATXO.

What is crucial for understanding the mechanics is that Spectrecoin since its inception accepts only staking inputs available in the best chain, this means a forked chain can never depend on inputs which have been created during the fork.

We are very excited to announce that the Spectrecoin V3 hard-fork to activate "Proof-of-Anonymous-Stake" (PoAS) or so called 'Stealth Staking' appears to have been successful and gone according to plan and block #1168490 was the first fully anonymous staked block on the mainnet created by the new protocol. Have a look at the block explorer:

https://chainz.cryptoid.info/xspec/block.dws?1168490.htm

I also remind you all that further changes to block time and rewards were activated at this hard-fork and the rewards for staking SPECTRE using PoAS is 3 SPECTRE and the reward for staking using PoSv3 is 2 XSPEC. Therefore, it makes sense to convert XSPEC to SPECTRE. We currently have about 1.3 mill SPECTRE so we expect more 'standard' XSPEC blocks at least for now.

'Stealth Staking' using ring-signatures is real, it works and Spectrecoin did it first! - respect to our lead developer @Tek who made this happen.

Only a couple of hours or so left until the Spectrecoin v3 hard-fork. You must upgrade your wallet before Friday 17th May 2019 at 2000 hours UTC. If you haven't already upgraded, do not delay, upgrade NOW! Spectrecoin will make history by being the first crypto with anonymous staking using ring-signatures.

https://news.spectreproject.io/spectrecoin-v3-x-upgrade-guide/
https://github.com/spectrecoin/spectre/releases/tag/3.0.9

If you haven't upgraded for whatever reason, you have problems, you didn't have time etc. DO NOT SEND ANY COINS USING THE V2 WALLET AFTER THE HARD-FORK TONIGHT - YOU RISK LOOSING YOUR COINS just keep your wallet.dat file safe and upgrade when you can. Come to the support channel if you have any questions NOT covered in the upgrade guide. Please read it first if you have any issues!

Happy Anonymous Staking Everyone - thanks for all your support from the Spectrecoin Team!

we have not been able to confirm with either Trade Satoshi or NovaExchange that they have updated to v3. So, if you have any XSPEC at either Trade Satoshi or NovaExchange - we recommend that you withdraw all your XSPEC back to your own v3 wallet before tomorrow. If you leave your coins on either of those two exchanges you risk loosing your coins.

If you are not already aware, Cryptopia have engaged liquidators and this means that Cryptopia is dead and is not coming back online. As far as we can tell, the following XSPEC address (rich list #1) belongs to Cryptopia SUkKs9fP2ET5zmSxZL5so2CXhophJcp2Su and it has a balance of 1,127,117 XSPEC and there has been no activity with this address for 122 days so that corresponds to the hack date of 14/01/2019.

As I have previously stated Cryptopia informed us via e-mail that XSPEC funds were safe and had not been stolen and that seems to be corroborated by the fact that the address above has not been in use since the hack. However, in light of the fact that Cryptopia has gone into liquidation, the status of the XSPEC funds are somewhat uncertain. According to Grant Thornton: “Given the complexities involved we expect the investigation to take months rather than weeks.” and so unfortunately, anyone who had funds in Cryptopia may not see any payments for a very long time if ever. It is not clear to us at this stage what will happen to the funds. I have attached a link to the Cryptopia T&Cs below and other links to Grant Thornton.

If you had funds in Cryptopia wallets I suggest making a claim to the address provided liquidation@cryptopia.co.nz ASAP with evidence.

These are events completely outside of our control but I will be writing an e-mail to the liquidators on behalf of Spectrecoin and our users to try and clarify what happens next to the XSPEC funds and I will keep you updated.

A big step?

It is a big step forward for PoS coins, as we are the first to redesign the PoS protocol to use ring-signatures in the staking transactions, rather than then 'normal' UTXOs used by other PoS coins. Now, there are very few coins if any built around this code base in the first place, so we wouldn't expect to see many similar projects. Spectrecoin is now becoming a total privacy solution as long as you keep your balance in SPECTRE. Private transactions using ring-signatures, staking using ring-signatures, Tor hidden services nodes only and a lot of other bespoke algorithms dealing with splitting and consolidating anonymous outputs on the blockchain.

So, in fact, if you keep a balance of SPECTRE and run your wallet, you generate anonymous money on your computer or even a Raspberry Pi. Can I remind you that Spectrecoin has a very simple and ultra stable Raspberry Pi setup, just burn the image to an SD memory card and start generating anonymous money with very little energy use. It makes you wonder why anyone would invest and mine non-anonymous coins when you can easily set-and-forget a Spectrecoin Raspi staking box to generate an income.

https://github.com/spectrecoin/spectre/releases/download/3.0.8/Spectrecoin-3.0.8-69e1d6cd-RaspbianLight.zip

Anonymous staking, Tor hidden services, automatic wallet updates from the Raspberry Pi UI - thats innovation.

Get the new Spectrecoin v3 and see for yourself

A big step?

A massive yes!

SPECTRECOIN v3.x NEW RELEASE

The Spectrecoin Foundation is thrilled to present the release of Spectrecoin v3.x with our novel ‘Proof-of-Anonymous-Stake’ protocol. This release has been nearly 10 months in development and testing and introduces the first fully anonymous staking system on a trustless setup. In addition, there are other major changes in v3.x. The block time will increase to 96 seconds and the stake reward will be fixed per block.  The reward for a block staked with SPECTRE (PoAS) will be 3 SPECTRE. The reward for a block staked with XSPEC (PoSv3), will be 2 XSPEC. This will slightly decrease inflation over time.

You MUST update your wallet and reindex the blockchain or use the bootstrap method before the hard-fork which will be at the following time:

Code:
17/05/2019 (17th May 2019)
2000 GMT (UTC) London, UK time
2300 hours Moscow Standard Time (MSK) / Eastern European Time (EET)
1600 hours Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) US

Please check your time-zone to find out when the changes are introduced where you are if this is relevant to you. Once you have updated your wallet to v3.x you can just resume staking as normal and once the new rules have been activated you can then start using the PoAS protocol. Once the hard-fork has occurred and the new rules are in effect we will make an announcement shortly after here and on Blockfolio Signal so you know that you can start ‘Stealth Staking’.

We have published an update guide on our usual newsletter site so please have a quick look at this before you go ahead and update your wallet. If you do not update the wallet, you will simply be left out after the fork and you will be on an abandoned v2 chain. So, please update your wallet as soon as possible.

Spectrecoin - XSPEC has been in maintenance mode for a while and I have attempted to get an update from Livecoin about why this is the case. I was told that it is due to an update but this is 10 days ago. It would be good if you guys could give us an update.
