You forgot the aliens.  Yeah, perhaps it's a better idea start using CPU power again for things like SETI@Home, that way we could get our money back...
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Introducing new currency: Bytecoin on: June 11, 2011, 10:10:55 PM
As Bytecoins are 8x bigger, they need much more space in the wallet than bitcoins.  I prefer the smaller ones.

You will see this kinds of fluctuations in the next years with this currency.  It is normal. Transactions (speculation) of a few people have still a huge impact.  That is going to change in the future as more and more people start to use the currency and rely on it.

The first and most important rule is: don't panic!

And about the forum, I assume that the problems were technical and related to afraid people asking for advice.

I'm not specially risk-averse, but for me in general terms a lottery is a tax for the dumb. You are paying a lot of money (in this case in electricity) without even knowing if you are going to get something back. And the probability gets lower day by day.

If you have a supercomputer which gives you enough processing power to get (in average) a block a day, that's kind of predictable.  If you have two overclocked GPUs, it may happen that you never get a coin back.

And not to think about the CO2 footprint of this currency...

I wouldn't recommend solo mining, as difficulty is high and will continue to increase.

Join a pool and start getting something back from your efforts.
