221  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Refuse to believe ANYONE is Satoshi on: May 03, 2016, 05:09:40 PM
so you're basically saying that we should deny even the real satoshi? no.

Yes I am 100% saying we should.

There is no Satoshi.

I fully agree that satoshi's identity shouldn't matter but denying the founder's rights to reclaim his identity are just ridiculous. and dunno where you get that but bitcoin will stay decentralized even with him around.
222  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Satoshi would do an AMA, what would you ask him? on: May 03, 2016, 05:01:43 PM
the most important question: how many bitcoins do you have exactly?

edit:
you know what? don't answer that.
223  Economy / Speculation / Re: Halving Bitcoin Reward Unlikely to Cause Price Surge on: May 03, 2016, 04:36:02 PM
...
I'm not trying to argue that we *will* see a spike in price, rather, that the effect of a block reward halving is one of many factors that could contribute to higher prices. It's possible that expectations have overbid prices now and that, as a result, they'll actually fall. But, over the long term, prices should average higher with a reward of 25 than they would have with a block reward of 50.

Since we're clearly not getting anywhere, how about some data to ponder? Here's Litecoin halvening, I think Aug. 26 is when it happened.

you're comparing bitcoin with litecoin... how many people actually buy litecoin to use them and not just for trading?
224  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Craig Wright to move coins from an early (associated with the genesis?!) block? on: May 03, 2016, 04:28:41 PM
Well, even if he can move some of the early coins... it still does not prove that he is Satoshi. Let's say {conspiracy theory incoming} that some agency got hold of him very early on in the game and they seized

his documents... and waited for the opportune time to use it. Nobody back then, thought Bitcoin would become this big. Satoshi might have left these experimental information on pieces of paper or saved it in

digital form, and they only NOW were able to retrieve it. Craig like the Bond look and might be working with these agencies and Gavin to slowly ease into this position, until everyone believes this and then start

slowly selling off this wealth...  Roll Eyes

moving some coins from the early blocks wouldn't prove anything unless the address is known to be owned by satoshi. there's always conspiracy theories, but without a single proof they'll just remain as theories.
225  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Craig is Satoshi, do you still like Bitcoin? on: May 03, 2016, 03:52:58 PM
doesn't matter to me unless he starts pointing us to bad directions (and if the community are stupid enough to follow).

227  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Craig Wright to move coins from an early (genesis?!) block? on: May 03, 2016, 03:30:57 PM
I thought the first 50BTC are unspendable? just move coins from the address 1A1zP1eP5QGefi2DMPTfTL5SLmv7DivfNa instead. coins from an early block wouldn't prove much because there's no guarantee that the address belongs to satoshi.
228  Economy / Speculation / Re: creator of bitcoins on: May 03, 2016, 12:23:00 AM
you're like 12 hours and 12 threads late.
anyway, not many believe him because he only gave the detailed proof to Gavin Andresen and Jon Matonis in secret (they had to sign NDA before craig gave them the "proof").

I think he feels that he has no choice. there was information leaked about him in the fall.

when was that? never heard of wright before december.

edit:
ohhh. nvm, wrong continent. thanks gleb.
230  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Those saying Wright is not Satoshi are full of $#!% on: May 02, 2016, 11:26:33 PM
You must understand that this so called "verification" happened on a "new" laptop that Craig provided.

Link please?

I haven't yet seen anything indicating that Gavin used a laptop provided by Mr. Wright to perform the verification of the cryptographic proof.

Craig signed a message that I chose ("Gavin's favorite number is eleven. CSW" if I recall correctly) using the private key from block number 1.

That signature was copied on to a clean usb stick I brought with me to London, and then validated on a brand-new laptop with a freshly downloaded copy of electrum.

I was not allowed to keep the message or laptop (fear it would leak before Official Announcement).

I don't have an explanation for the funky OpenSSL procedure in his blog post.

didn't think much of that at first. but being not allowed to keep even the message is strange.
231  Other / Meta / Re: Activity & new membergroup limits on: May 02, 2016, 11:09:47 PM
Thanks Encrypted that makes complete sense to me.
Now next dumb newbie Q : What is the (int) in the wait time equation for the following in anticipation of not being a newbie soon.  Smiley

if(activity >= 15) then waittime = (int)(90 - activity)

Thanks for taking the time

fixed the red part. not really sure what you mean by the bolded part, that calculation is for wait time between posts.
(int) means whatever the result of the calculation will be rounded to the nearest integer (42.123 will be rounded down to 42).
232  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Craig Wright and Gavin Andresen - Summary of the Story on: May 02, 2016, 10:26:33 PM
This leaves me with five possibilities:
  • Gavin has lost his ability to think properly
  • Gavin is part of a conspiracy
  • Craig Wright is a better scammer than I can comprehend
  • Craig Wright got a hold of some of Satoshi's private keys somehow
  • Craig Wright is Satoshi
One more possibility: Gavin knows who real Satoshi is and doesn't want to reveal his identity. Gavin saw Wright as a way to distract public to wrong path (but unfortunately it backfired, as the public "proof" was so clumsy).

IF gavin knows who satoshi is. then that would go to the first possibility because gavin could've kept quiet. instead he risks losing everyone's respect by backing a silly claim from a fake (again, IF).
233  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: THIS Proves Craig Wright Created Bitcoin and is Satoshi Nakamoto on: May 02, 2016, 10:20:21 PM
nice hair, satoshi.
234  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gavin confirms Craig Wright is Satoshi - Effect on BTC price on: May 02, 2016, 06:44:57 PM
Excuse me but... I thought that Gavin was one of the few persons that had actually know Satoshi in person, am I right? if so, how could he just say he "believes" this man to be satoshi? He should be sure in that case!

Gavin emailed/chatted with Satoshi quite a bit, but never met in person. But Gavin is either a fool or has some other ulterior motive by not requiring a genesis-block signed message. Something else is going on. The real Satoshi would easily prove himself.

that leaves us with the question of why keep the details secret.

no one ever met satoshi in person.
236  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi Nakamoto aka Craig Wright Can't Spell Signature. Craig's Career is #REKT on: May 02, 2016, 06:23:50 PM
well, not saying that I believe wright's claims (or gavin) but everyone makes mistakes. a little spelling mistake won't be a problem if he gave the community a solid proof.

...though on keyboard the key "i" is quite far from "a".
237  Other / Meta / Re: Activity & new membergroup limits on: May 02, 2016, 05:43:18 PM
Activity = min(time * 14, posts)
time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration

But What does min stand for in this equation?

"min(x,y)" is developer language for "the minimum of x and y (whatever has the lowest value)".

so min(2 * 14, 6) would return as 6
simpler version would be: Max Activity = time * 14 .

Also to increase my activity by maximum of 14 within 2 weeks does it make any difference to my activity whether those posts are all in 1 day or 1 every day or 2 every other day etc..

no.

No hack here, except Gavin himself Cheesy

seems like he doesn't want to give details. reason: privacy.
yeah, give "proof" to gavin and news sites in secret and refuse to post the detail publicly because of privacy. makes a lot of sense. /s
239  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why would anyone claim to be Satoshi? on: May 02, 2016, 01:34:27 PM
money, fame, and adoration? (guess where I took those from)
though all you'll get is a lot of ridicules and a bit of infamy if you're unsuccessful.
240  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BREAKING NEWS: SATOSHI FINALLY REVEALED! on: May 02, 2016, 01:00:58 PM

dude they're in french.  Undecided

just skimmed through the thread and couldn't find any proof (or an explanation of what it is.). the article are also lacking citations/sources for the important parts. so, bottom line, the media are just being stupid again, am I right?

Pretty much. Nothing was shown/proved in the BBC article. I'm sure a laymen could easily be fooled but what is more concerning is Gavin Andresen seemingly buying this bullshit. Very alarming.

I have since learnt that Gavin was paid for his participation.  His site did not get hacked - but he received a little something for playing along.  Gavin knows how to check whether a message was properly signed.  He did not get fooled.  He did not get hacked.  He got paid.

I hope not. after all he did he was still one of the biggest bitcoin contributor and some people still respect him because of that. if what you're saying is true then people will lost all their remaining respect to gavin and will most likely turn on him.
