I return on this day to say FUCK YOU to the haters, including the OP.
That is all.
See y'all at $1 million.
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My rewards for hodling despites the challenges. on: February 27, 2024, 02:01:50 AM
Many moons and cycles ago I told my wife that we should skip the wedding and get married at city hall and spend the wedding money on Bitcoin instead. She did not go for it!
I could have had 100 more BTC!
I still have my wife and now two kiddos, so maybe it was still worth it 😂
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and me (Hal Finney) on: March 20, 2022, 07:45:59 AM
Saw that it’s been 9 years since this post…I remember reading it way back when Hal first posted it.

Even though we never met IRL, you are missed Hal.

Fundraising already ended. Congratulation  Shocked
Wow I totally thought the soft cap just triggered a 6 hour shutdown.  Went to the bathroom came back and it's sold out?
Well, guess I'll wait and see what happens when this actually launches and hits the exchanges, seems like they sold 50% more than the original goal so it'll dilute things a little.
Turns out this was a $2 million bathroom break now.

Of the projects I picked back in 2017 3 out of the 4 went on to do >200X but I only managed to get into two of the ICOs I wanted and unfortunately one went only 10X and the other one went 240X but I held far too long and it crashed 99%.

Lessons learned, shouldn't go to the bathroom and I should have invested a lot more money than I did. Oh well.
5  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin, I salute your final ATH. on: June 08, 2021, 10:39:23 AM
The first few pages of this thread are people in this topic, they were the Bitcoin OGs, the lucky buyers and HODLers of a 4-digit Bitcoin, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=375643.0

Why do they “hate” Bitcoin? These are familiar names, the same names who are currently trolling us today, names who, I believe, might have sold the lows of 2015. Haha.
Pretty sure they're just retired and bored  Grin

Two more weeks until my own retirement

It's been a wild ride y'all.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are there people here from 2013 who are not millionaires now? on: May 08, 2021, 03:09:55 PM
Uhh...I've been here since 2011 and I can pretty solidly say that I am not a millionaire.  I'm not destitute since I have a pretty good job outside of this, but I'm not a millionaire and that's despite having a pretty good income from my regular job. I told myself I'd buy more bitcoin when I got a high paying job but when it actually happened the price of bitcoin was tanking (down to about $200) and I got too scared to actually go through with my plan to buy $3000 of bitcoin a month.

The rest is just a combination of having actually spent almost all of my bitcoin when it was worth about $8-100, and having invested bitcoins in mining hardware instead of just holding onto the coins-by the time I got the mining hardware it was impossible to mine back the coins spent.

I was also a very broke med student in the early days so I had no money to invest anything and basically could only buy new hardware by selling the coins off.

But that said I recently finally bought the second crypto I've ever purchased, which was a little bit of Qtum during the ICO and at least on paper it's had a pretty great run.  We'll see what it's worth in a year or two, probably all dependent on if this altcoin bubble pops or not.

But man oh man, so many threads I've been in on here where I came SO, SO close to buying in.  The original NXT thread I got scared off by all the posters saying it was a scam.  Ethereum I got busy during medical residency and forgot about the ICO until it was over then I didn't feel like paying 50 cents each lol.  NEM I read the thread too early when it was still an NXT clone and didn't end up finding out about the new structure until recently.  Many times I've failed at becoming a millionaire.

But I can't complain too much, I've made a lot more than I would have if I had never invested in Bitcoin, and I did cover my medical school loans in the end with how much it's gone up. =)  And who knows, if this crazy market keeps up maybe in a year I'll be a millionaire hahaha.

Figured I'd post a 2021 update. After this post I HODL'd pretty hard. Had some stuff I probably shouldn't have HODL'd that hard including those Qtum, but overall those lessons we learned paid off I think.

I hope the rest of you in this thread from 2017 did well HODLing. Here's to more years of HODLing for all.
7  Economy / Speculation / Re: No Resistance From $30K-$40K? on: January 03, 2021, 12:05:47 PM
^  This run currently feels like 2013 when it went from 100 USD to 1000 USD than 2017's run imo.  There are lots of people who are at the wrong side or outside of it.  Including me.  Fml.
Ain't too late to FOMO hard and switch sides Wink
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will 2021 become the year of the Lightning Network? on: January 02, 2021, 08:52:26 PM
There still needs to be a few more things implemented in Bitcoin itself before LN can really scale. I think that's what Square is waiting for, they probably want to be able to onboard all the cash app users into lightning when it's ready but right now it just wouldn't be possible.
Probably by the end of the year though.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What's the biggest mistake you've made on crypto? on: January 02, 2021, 08:46:29 PM
Selling my BTC on MtGox for $5 a piece because I mined a block in less than a day on my computer and it seemed like a killer return.
Then probably investing in various ICOs and not dumping the alts when they pumped to get more BTC back.

Oh and spenting my BTC trying to buy miners from Butterflylabs instead of buying the the first Avalonminer. They got to market WAY sooner and by the time I got my piece of crap Butterflylabs miners the difficulty was sky high and I never made back what I bought them for.

So many stupid mistakes lol
10  Economy / Speculation / Re: another major resistance broke and the FOMO began on: January 02, 2021, 08:32:55 PM
Bullish sentiment is something that can be erased very very quickly. I remember why 2018 was such a bad year, because when we reached peak point at November 2017 there were tons of whales who ended up selling, those were the days most of the early investors got out, all those people who bought under 30 dollars started to sell, I am sure some of them are still around but a lot of them sold and considering they were capable of selling thousands of bitcoin easily (because they made so much bitcoin on early days even with mining) that became something a bit more different, where people would come out and sell tens of thousands of bitcoin.

This time around we do not have that just yet, so it looks like its bullish right now, but the moment someone comes out and sells tens of thousands of bitcoin, everyone else will start to sell their bitcoin as well.

Definitely this. BTC is just one whale away from dumping to 29k with that whale selling only a few hundred of their thousands of coins. This rally will see some real pull back when a whale decides to sell, and I would think one will soon as with a new year comes a new tax season.

Will buyers (and institutions, and grayscale) be able to absorb the selling? I'm optimistic they can, but it wouldn't be BTC if we don't revisit 20K with some random selling at 3:42AM across every exchange. When it happens, you know some person just became a billionaire in fiat terms. Have fun with the taxes!

And here I thought was the only 2011er who logged in for old times' sake today. Are you one of the whales now?
I wish I had tried to join the Vladmir club instead of playing too much satoshidice and sealswithclubs.

Who the hell are the miners with hashrates in the hundreds of millions already...that's thousands of NVMe drives worth of hashrate from single entities. Even conservatively you're looking at hundreds of thousands of dollars of hardware.
12  Other / Archival / Re: deleted on: August 05, 2018, 07:41:20 AM
The real problem isn't the accredited investor round or the $120 million raise. The real problem here is that they're raising this at a total market cap valuation of $6 billion which is seriously crack pipe territory and makes it severely unlikely that investors will make any money. It's bad enough that it's not open source and has fees tied to it, now they're worsening it's case by selling at such a crazy valuation.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: July 03, 2018, 09:29:58 AM

Really strange why all of a sudden the name is being brought up.

I read about this app on a reddit post from the Cryptocurrency reddit and overthere they said the exact same thing about the name.

However nobody in the past has complained about the name before.

Personally I think the name is Genius especially since these bytes are the units and its also a very technical name.

The reason why Raiblocks changed its name to Nano is because Raiblocks was actually a pretty bad name and the publicity did wonders for that coin.

What are you talking about, since the beginning people have been complaining that the name needs work. Instead they've spent two years now promoting this name with minimal traction and most of the people who were originally complaining have long given up on Byteball. The majority of people think exactly like the posters on reddit, not like the people in this thread.

Keep an eye on the download count of the app for iOS and you'll soon see what a waste of time this all is without a better name.
14  Economy / Speculation / Re: The price of Bitcoin will soon reach $15k on April, 2018 on: April 27, 2018, 04:54:56 AM
Yeah I don't think this is happening unless it goes on some kind of insane nuclear bull run lol
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Can Cardano(ADA) get to $3 by End of Q1 on: April 27, 2018, 04:44:55 AM
Cardano basically ripped off a whole bunch of ideas from another coin and revamped their entire blockchain concept, lol. When it originally ICO'd in Japan years back it had nothing to do with what it claims to want to do now.
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Tezos: A Self-Amending Crypto-Ledger on: April 15, 2018, 04:36:26 AM
I think we're getting very, very close to launch now. I fully expect Tezos to go beast mode. Hopefully we'll launch around $5-10 and with development and projects on Tezos I hope to see $30-40 by the end of next year, assuming the rest of the crypto market hasn't collapsed. Really exciting times.

Maybe I'll get to retire next year, lol.

Pretty shitty that they put such a short deadline to claim bounty tokens, I had a family emergency where an immediate family member died and wasn't able to focus on crypto and there's no more bounty now?  Shady as hell.
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN] Stone - DAG Data-Structured Private Cryptocurrency on: January 12, 2018, 05:58:13 AM
Really interesting idea, though I have to question the claim of being the first privacy focused DAG...aren't Blackbytes of Byteball the first privacy focused DAG? Still, I can see benefits of doing it this way instead even if it's not the first.

Will be keeping a close eye on this.

byteball are a different type of DAG, not block lattice, and byteballs does not actually transact anon transactions, its the off chain non tradable soloution:blackbytes.

In addition to this byteball is not free to send, Stone is, the raiblocks codebase is a whole lot better starting point.
They might be different but it's still a DAG.  Blackbytes are also not off-chain like you're saying, they run over the DAG just like regular Byteballs though there's a penalty in fees for the overhead of making them private. Like I said, I agree that there are likely benefits to using Raiblocks as the base (like the fees) but technically Blackbytes are the first DAG with privacy focus.

20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: XRP or XLM ? on: December 06, 2017, 07:58:42 AM
XLM since it's backed by IBM and actually being used by numerous banks with IBM's help, actually using the XLM token for transnational transfers.
