1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Is CoinMarketCap a scam? on: September 15, 2021, 11:32:58 AM
I’ve been using them for years, I know Binance owns them…but I can’t understand why page 3 (starting at #201 Hex) has coins like Safemoon, that have a higher market cap than every coin on page 2…but is stuck on page 3.

It’s like they put a velvet rope at coin #201, and only some coins can pass beyond that, and others can’t.

What is the explanation? Do you have to pay Binance to get past this velvet rope? Does someone at Binance try and decided what’s “worthy” of being on the first two pages?
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I need help, 10 factors that make Bitcoin decentralized. on: July 08, 2021, 11:20:26 AM
All great so far. To be clear, once I come up with the most important factors, I plan to use this as a ranking system for all other cryptocurrencies (in comparison to Bitcoin).

So I’m trying to understand what makes something quantifiably “decentralized” so that I can attach a grade to the project.

What other factors?
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / I need help, 10 factors that make Bitcoin decentralized. on: July 07, 2021, 11:57:59 AM
I’m working on a project, and I need input. I am trying to take every factor associated with Bitcoin/altcoins and rank them by “how decentralized” they are. Bitcoin is the gold standard, but what quantifiable factors make it the most decentralized crypto? I’m looking for 10 (at least).

What makes a project decentralized:
1) Is the creator known? Yes or no
2) how are the coins distributed? (Obviously the less spread out, and fewer large bag holders the better)
3) number of full nodes being run? (The more the better)

Can more technical people help me come up with at least 10 factors? They have to be quantifiable.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Will Eth go below .05 BTC? on: June 26, 2021, 11:17:34 AM
I see no stopping it. That’s the 200 MA on the daily.
Thoughts? Predictions?
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / The notion that “Ethereum is a shitcoin” is passé in 2021. on: June 14, 2021, 12:04:50 AM
How can people like Max Keiser and Tone Veys still call Ethereum a shitcoin? I get all of ETHs flaws, but it is a working function product. Stablecoins are useful. DEXs are useful. These people are starting to sound like the Peter Shiffs of Bitcoin.

Wouldn’t these people root for DEXs to succeed? They love that Bitcoin is decentralized, DEXs are certainly less centralized than Coinbase.

Can someone justify this to me? I don’t get it.
6  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: how to transfer Ledger BTC to a new ledger wallet (anonymously) on: May 21, 2021, 10:50:01 PM
Wait. Using the same seed means the private keys are on the new ledger. But under all new public keys?
You will have same private keys, same public keys and same addresses in the new ledger.
By importing the seed into the new ledger, you will have access to the fund you had in the old device.

Perhaps I was not clear. The goal is to get the coins from point A to Point B without a trace. Do I have to spell it out any more clearly?? Lol.
7  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: how to transfer Ledger BTC to a new ledger wallet (anonymously) on: May 21, 2021, 10:37:06 PM
When your friend received her first Ledger, she wrote down a seed somewhere. Use that on the second Ledger, and there will be no trace. You cannot transfer the Bitcoins from one to another without a transaction, but you can use the same seed multiple times so you can access the same coins from two separate devices/HWs.

Wait. Using the same seed means the private keys are on the new ledger. But under all new public keys?

The goal is to send the coins from ledger A to ledger B, without being able to trace them.
8  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / how to transfer Ledger BTC to a new ledger wallet (anonymously) on: May 21, 2021, 10:04:09 PM
My friend has a Ledger wallet, and she wants to transfer the Bitcoin from a ledger wallet to a different ledger wallet (without a record of the transaction).

Is this possible in a SAFE way?

Thanks.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: LTC V BTC chart...how depressing! on: February 06, 2021, 02:25:04 AM
Litecoin may be doing ok against the USD, but it is so pathetically low against BTC. We are currently at .004 BTC per LTC. Will Litecoin continue to go the way of BCH? And continue to bleed satoshi value? Does anyone think there is a floor? Obviously this is speculation, I’m just curious on thoughts.

Instead on getting stressed out talking about declining prices then why wont see this as an opportunity for you to accumulate more? I would still risk out to buy LTC

rather than on considering those low rank altcoins in the market or even those low caps.In to the question on whats happening between LTCvsBTC then it all matters with several factors
like market demand, volume etc.

Depressed? Deal with it because this is part of cryptocurrency investment.

I own zero Litecoin. I’m just deciding whether to open a position. That’s all.

11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Here is what I don’t understand about DEFI? on: August 15, 2020, 11:59:05 AM
How can you loan money without trust? Background checks, credit history. I understand if someone uploads collateral like Bitcoin or Ethereum, But then why not just spend the bitcoin or Ethereum? Why take out a loan?

Is it simply to avoid paying capital gains?

Can someone please explain to me how DEFI could ever lend someone money for a mortgage?
12  Economy / Speculation / Why is Bitcoin volume so low? What effect on price? on: June 23, 2020, 11:07:08 PM
Bitcoin volume is extremely low right now. It’s still higher than the 2017 bull run but way down from March 2020 highs (im assuming that was the RONA Crash of 2020?)

What effect does this low volume have on price? I understand what it really does is allow bigger swings to happen as less money is needed to move the market.

I’m curious if anyone can give me some insight?
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: I sold 32 Eth for BTC...now I’m wanting those Eth back. Wait? on: June 20, 2020, 11:13:31 AM
I bought 32 ethereum in anticipation of eth 2.0, but I got tired of seeing the Satoshi value drop. So I sold it for .696 BTC. Now I’m FOMOing, because I’m thinking at some point Eth will take back off.

Should I get my 32Eth back? Wait? Or leave it in BTC and start buying Back my 32 Eth with fiat?

I guess what I’m saying, Eth is at $212 right now...do you think we will see another dip below $200? Just curious thoughts.

I decided to check back on this thread Smiley. I hope you have made some cool profits from selling your eth to Btc. You may even decide to buy back some eth with the profits made from buying btc while still holding your btc.

I kept my BTC and bought 32 Eth with fiat.

Great suggestions. Thanks.

16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Ethereum: Sinking ship or Sleeping Giant? on: December 25, 2019, 03:25:34 PM
I’ve been into Bitcoin since 2014. It’s always been my main thing, however I’ll admit I got swept up in the 2017 cycle and got burned on quite a few projects. I eventually consolidated back to 100% bitcoin.

Now I find myself in a situation where I really believe in Ethereum as the only other viable project. I’ve been accumulating Ether to the point where now I’m 80% BTC, 10% Eth and, 10% USDC (prepared to buy more BTC when the time is right).

I’m preparing for Eth 2.0 staking. I see all the Defi projects built on Eth. The stablecoins, the ecosystem. If Eth fell, it would bring a huge chunk of the crypto market down with it. So for this reason, I can’t see ethereum really disappearing. It’s the only crypto that I’ve actually used (I bought something with USDC, an ERC-20 token).

That said, I am concerned about those stolen $100million in Eth. That can depress the value of Eth for years. I’m concerned about the constant hard forking, the constant delay of Eth 2.0, and the general amateurish feeling of the project. I hate that Vitalik, and the ethereum foundation dumped their bags on people at the ATH.

Part of me wants to just sell my Eth for BTC and not look back. Another part of me wants to keep buying Eth as it goes down.

Any intelligent insights on this forum? Not a pissing match, not a shitcoin shill session. Just honest feelings about Ethereum from other veterans in the space.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If USDC is backed by USD, how does the $ get into the circle bank account? on: December 07, 2019, 08:14:01 PM
One of the biggest problems of Stable coins is that they have equivalents in USD. Tether has been criticized for years for this reason. And I still don't believe that all stable coins have exactly the equivalent. Including USDC. I think there's a back door, and Coinbase uses it.

If you had a license to print money...wouldn't you?
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / If USDC is backed by USD, how does the $ get into the circle bank account? on: December 07, 2019, 07:05:40 PM
Perhaps this is a dumb question...but if I go onto Coinbase, or anywhere, and buy 1 USDC, how does the $1.00 USD I paid for it get into Cricles Bank account.  Audits show that Circle has 1 USD for every USDC, I'm just confused as to how that USD actually makes it from my bank account, to Circle's bank account?

Does circle decide who the fiat onramps (like Coinbase) are? And they have to buy the USDC from Circle consortium dollar for dollar?

Can someone enlighten me?
19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / After years in this space...I am now a BTC/ETH maximalist (Both are important) on: December 03, 2019, 01:06:21 AM
I've been in this space since 2014. I have always been a Bitcoin Maximalist.  Than 2017 happened, and it was hard not to chase altcoins.  After the hype died down, and the dust settled, I realized that there is room to be a BITCOIN/ETHEREUM Maximalist.  Every other project is a "me too," or a clone, or redundant, or vaporware.  The only two blockchains we need right now are Bitcoin and Ethereum...and we need BOTH! Not just Bitcoin anymore.

I love Bitcoin...LOVE it!  But when it really comes down to it, I use Ethereum in actual, practical use cases.  I recently bought something in USDC...which utilizes Ethereum.  Stablescoins, ICOs, IEOs, SEOs, Defi will be built on Ethereum.

I have fallen in love with Ethereum as hard as Bitcoin, and I see value in both.  Ethereum is extremely elegant, and may end up being more important in this space than Bitcoin one day.  It is the foundation of the Defi movement.

So there can be a category of people who consider themselves BTC/ETH Maximalists.
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Can CoinMarketCap default to BTC instead of USD? on: November 12, 2019, 04:36:30 PM
Simple question.  I would love to go to CoinMarketCap.com and have the default currency be BTC instead of USD.
Is this possible?
