361  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [UNOFFICIAL] [VNL] Vanillacoin 0.4.0 RC2 | Instant ▱ Incentivized ▱ Innovative on: December 01, 2015, 01:35:44 PM
yes you can stake and receive incentives, if you put more than 10 000 coins in your wallet.

if u look at the 4.0 RC3 change list  it says :

"Incentive collateral is now kept in a reserve balance so as not to be included in Proof-of-Stake"

Meaning that if you put 50 000 coins in wallet, only 40 000 of them will be staking.

You have to unlock wallet for staking.

As for getting incentives, you just need to unlock wallet for a few minutes until you get  "votecandidate": true
Then u can lock it back.

So it has been almost 24 hours and I have not received any incentives. Is it that my node it just unlucky and they will start to come in? I have received them back when there was no collateral required so I was thinking I should be getting them now. If I type getincentiveinfo in console it returns the following.

{
    "walletaddress": VbQJhtv6fRzxxsobYJNt7vdRp4XLRYJzSg,
    "collateralrequired": 10000,
    "collateralbalance": 10000,
    "networkstatus": ok,
    "votecandidate": true,
    "votescore": 12414
}

Does the 10000 need to be sent to a new address since this current address I've been using so I sent all of the coins to an exchange and then the first batch I received back was a 10000 coin input then I received a few others smaller ones.

sounds like you have it set correctly.  It isn't super unusual to go 24hrs without getting a reward.  Since you have "votecaidate: true" I think your best bet is to just let it keep running for now.

Hmmm,

I wasn't able to get the wallet running on Ubuntu, I don't have the technical chops; simplifying this process should aid adoption. I'll get it to run on Windows tom and go from there. First impressions are by and large positive   Smiley.

Pablo.

Easiest way to get it installed on Linux is to use Xcore's script.  You can find it @ https://github.com/xCoreDev/vanillacoin-scripts  .  You will find instructions on how to utilize the script there on the page.

Had already tried that, I couldn't get it to work. I'll just run it on windows tom Smiley.

Pablo.

Okie dokie.  The windows build works fine.  If you change your mind and need help though come into the irc room.  The script is pretty easy and I'm sure with some assistance you could get it working.

The vanilla wallet is compiled with many static libraries.
Other than a build annoyance for people wanting to compile themselves, it is a security issue.
When your operating system does security updates on those libraries, the wallet will be unaffected by those updates and will keep being vulnerable.
This is pretty common for windows applications, much less on unix.

See here for the discussion:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1064326.msg12499004#msg12499004

I warned you ;-)

personally i prefer static builds for security related apps, because a lib can attack its host-app.
if its just a file somewhere on the system it may get updated unnoticed (i tend to update security apps more carefully than normal libs).

that just means someone has to rebuild if a "normal" security hole is found in a lib: not a big issue IMHO

If a hacker has access to a lib, it has access to the host program as well, so it doesn't make a difference.
Seeing how often (for example) openssl has been updated for severe security issues recently, I think building it statically in a cryptocoin wallet is to be considered a security issue.
YMMV of course.
And before people start attacking me, I'm not bashing the coin, just saying what my concerns are.

Maybe your concern has a point from your perspective but as you can see the opposite is true for many others including this coins dev.  You have made your idea clear but I think you might be having trouble accepting that this is not going to change?  From my point of view you are pushing system security onto the dev rather than taking it into your own hands.  The simple solution, don't compile from source if you aren't comfortable with it.

Will the incentive status output always show me as "firewalled" if I'm behind a NAT regardless of the firewall settings?

If you are using a router you can forward the port to the IP of the computer running the node.

I did but it doesn't help. I suppose a public IP is mandatory for this.

ya I guess if your ISP is not providing you with an IP address then it wont work.  I have multiple computers behind a single IP though and it works for me, our situations must be different.

Do you know why i cant mine?
I am using cgminer 3.7.2 in the pool suprnova.cc
I always get: rejectet Diff... <low difficulty share of 3.xx

This are my settings: cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://vnl.suprnova.cc:1111 -O realchlorum.realchlorum:realchlorum

Can anyone help me?

Sincerly,

Realchlorum

Algorithm is not scrypt.  Look at first post for links to current mining software.

not enough platforms.  Where is PS4?  what about WII-U?  When you are lying about making a game there is no reason to limit yourself!  Cheesy
371  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: iGotSpots Scam Dev on: August 12, 2015, 07:11:13 PM
I know people that made plenty of BTC on 10K without being in cahoots with spots.  The only confusing part that whole time was trying to figure out why and how their were people shoving so much money into a blockchain that even the people profiting on it knew was bound to fail.

Not trying to make anyone conclude anything about spots, honestly have never interacted with the guy, just presenting some evidence that not everyone making money on his coins was a collaborator and at least some people were losing money by overvaluing things, instaminers were making out like bandits on 10k.
372  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [UNOFFICIAL] VNL | Vanillacoin 0.3.1 | DarkPP/MinerPP/CoinPP | ZeroTime TestNet on: August 12, 2015, 07:04:20 PM
it is an unofficial twitter with a grammatical error.  Who cares?  Go ahead and compile it on whatever you want.  How is this an issue?

Well there's a lot of misinformation around about VNL and I wanted this cleared up.  I didn't know whether it was true or not.  Turns out it's not.  Also it doesn't even seem that a gramatically-corrected version of the claim would be completely true, from what's been said in this thread.

Doesn't anyone know who runs the @vanillanewsbits twitter so we can get him to clean up these mistakes?  Often these kinds of news feeds for altcoins are ran by online friends of the dev or community leaders.

You still seem confused.  Let me try once again to clarify.  The code can be compiled to run on any of the systems you mentioned originally.  I understand your concern is that you want to compile the iOS version so that you know you are getting the correct wallet not a manipulated one.  What you seem to not be wanting to accept is that it CAN be compiled on iOS IF you happen to have the ability to do so but this would be a huge pain in the ass.  What people actually do in practice is compile things on their workstations for whatever platform and then run it on the respective platform. Nothing that dev does aside from writing a compiler for your platform is going to make the process any easier.

Just to summarize once more, you can go ahead and compile it for whatever hardware you want, on whatever you are able to.  The ability to compile it ON a certain device is not a limitation of the code.

if you look back the person who runs that twitter took the time to respond to your concerns in this very thread.  It's directly above the message of mine you quoted.

I don't blame you for being cautious or whatever but you are on the edge of seeming to intentionally misunderstand the information being given to you, from my point of view anyway.

hope that helps

I can get excited about being POS only so that miners can't take advantage of the network.

I am not supportive of increasing the POS % however, the goal should be for securing the network and processing transactions rather than lining bagholders pockets.
375  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [UNOFFICIAL] VNL | Vanillacoin 0.3.1 | DarkPP/MinerPP/CoinPP | ZeroTime TestNet on: August 11, 2015, 09:08:44 PM
If you're not a developer, you will not be compiling it at any time.  It's listed because it is something that is unique to this coin's code.

I am a developer, though not really a crypto developer.

I would be interesting in hearing about what properties of this code make it compilable on platforms that other cryptocurrency wallets are not compilable on.

I understand that VNL is apparently more energy-efficient in some way?  One wouldn't expect that to affect compilation though!

The code is a complete rewrite of bitcoin and peercoin.  It is not a clone like the VAST majority of cryptocurrencies.

Hop on IRC if you want to try to get more in depth.

Sorry, I don't want to expose my IP by going on IRC.

I think it's most likely that these particular claims of vanillanewsbits are mistaken.  It should be clarified whether or not this is an official VanillaCoin account (i.e. whether it is supported by the dev or not) and corrections made if so.

To clarify, I'm taking about this part:

Quote
Can be compiled on any platform, including Windows, Mac OS, Linux, Android, iOS, game consoles, etc.  No other cryptocurrency can do this.

No that is not the official twitter.

The truth is that it can be compiled for any of those platforms but I really doubt anyone is too worried about compiling the code on their xbox.

Any reasoning why masternodes are terrible?

From my perspective if masternodes were added to Magi it would simply be a way for the rich to get richer.  I think the same could be said for increasing the POS %.

I am interested in developments that make the playing field even for people that want to get involved, which is a good way to attract new interest.  Masternodes are pretty much the opposite in my view.

Masternodes are terrible and I really hope this coin doesn't implement them.

This reminds me of another coin that had a great developer, a killer feature and big plans but eventually suddenly died. Even the ATH price is the same as well as dev's MO and the dump. I really hope this is not the same scheme being pulled by someone.
SPR?

Aaaaand we have a winner Grin

You are just speculating. I don't get what is the contribution of these kind of comments to this thread.

Critical thinking is good. Do you think that posts like "Give me more cheap coins. We'll be rich! Buy buy buy!" make greater contribution?
Have I made ever those kind of comments you say? I'm for critical thinking, but what you wrote is just as stupid as those comments you mention. Critical thinking has to be sustained by some rationale. Your comment is not.

I didn't mean they were yours, no offence. My doubts are based on similar things I saw in the past, on my experience.

By the way does anyone know how often does John visit the forums? He hasn't logged in to both for 3 days already.

he doesn't have a schedule for logging into the forums.

dont take it so personally, I was just having fun with the information that was available.  Rols and I have never interacted so I'm not sure why you think he has "outed me as a troll".  I was just encouraging you to look at the front page where the information you want was located and teasing you for not looking there. its not an insult against you or the coin. I follow the thread because i think the coin is interesting. Cool

edit: for what its worth i am sorry that I upset you, wasnt my intention  Smiley
