Definitely...you can hold your altcoins for more than a year in your wallet. As a matter of fact, I have some altcoins am currently holding for more than a year in my wallet and nothing has actually happened to them. Just ensure the coins you are holding are worth it.

Ethereum is not by any means dying at all. I personally do not believe it is dying. The market situation is telling on them all and there is no coin presently in the market that is not touched. That does not mean death.
