261  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: US Tariff Ruling N297495 = 2.6% mandatory tariff on bitcoin mining hardware on: October 03, 2018, 09:56:21 PM
That brings up an interesting query: Do the new 25% tariffs apply to any miner-related components made in China? eg, inductors, resistors, caps, etc. I know they apply to a helluva lot of optical components and laser diodes.

So I have been working with a customs attorney on this situation and from what we understand is components are not a part of the tariff.

For example, if china ships the individual cats that form Voltron to Canada. If they are reshipped to the USA as is they would face the tariff. If you combined the units into Voltron and shipped Voltron over, you would not be subject to the tariff because the product is materially different from the way it left China.
262  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Braiins OS: open-source mining firmware [S9, T1] on: October 03, 2018, 05:35:18 PM
I will stay temporary with SD cards. Did you overclocked your miners? I am running 4 of them @650MHz and 2@675HMz. I need to know the safe frequency ;p
Also I have noticed that all miners running Braiins are very quiet. Will stay with Braiins.

Regards,

Hank

Im running mine at 700. They are all 13.5 TH runits running around 15TH now. The power draw is a bit high so I wouldnt recommend it on a bitmain PSU. I am running 2450w PSUs with plenty of head room.
263  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: October 02, 2018, 10:29:51 PM

can't get it to 15T, the highest is 14.2T for a S9 13.5T.

what are your settings/frequency? as beyond 750 it is not stable and not going above 12.xT

Mine is running fixed at 700mhz to get a stable 15TH. Not sure why yours would be running so slow if you are pushing 750mhz
264  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Research shows it is hard to make money with bitcoin mining on: October 02, 2018, 09:57:37 PM
There are certain times where it makes sense to get into mining, and other times when it doesnt. When the prices started going crazy last year there was a window to start something and recoup your costs before everything went back to normal. In lean times like these, mining only makes sense if you already have the infrastructure in place to support it.

P.S. To the comments about making bitcoin anti asic. This shouldnt even be discussed as a remote possibility. This isnt some random shitcoin that nobody cares about, this is the largest processing network in the world. There are hundreds of billions of dollars in infrastructure and products on the market to support it, you cant just flip a switch and turn it all off. Bitcoin as its known now would die, plain and simple.
265  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Marco Streng CEO Genesis Mining: Please Save Cloud Miners & the Mining Contracts on: October 02, 2018, 09:47:52 PM
First he needs to understand how cloud mining works. People blaming a cloud service provider for the rise and difficulty and drop in price is a bit silly.

so explain us in detail

Their job is to make a profit, you cannot punish them for looking out for the best interests of their company.

they already have high profits, people are asking that they be more fair and transparent

A cloud mining contract is not created to make a profit at the current spot prices. It is kind of a bet that the coin price will rise. The only way to profit on a cloud contract is to have a steady price rise that outpaces difficulty adjustments for the life of the contract. If it was more profitable to just mine rather than sell the contract, cloud mining would not exist. What selling a cloud contract enables a company to do is to front load the profit versus the slow steady drip of mining, most often it is done to feed further expansion of the company so that it can grow at a fast rate without bogging itself down with a large number of loans and other financial burdens.

What exactly do you mean by fair and transparent? Everything is spelled out to the letter in the contract as far as what to expect. It is not the company's fault that its customers do not educate themselves before purchasing a product. It is not the company's job to hold hands and coddle its customers. The onus is on the customer to learn and understand what they are getting into. It is quite unfair to blame the company for a clients ignorance.
266  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: ⭐ Merits from 10$ on: October 02, 2018, 09:39:17 PM
This has to be a joke right?

First off, selling merit is a bannable offense.

Second, you need hundreds of merits for anything useful, how the hell would you expect someone to pay these crazy prices?
267  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Dollemizer Firmware ASICBOOST Comming! [custom s9, s9i, t9 Firmware upgrade] on: October 02, 2018, 09:03:09 PM
does this work with T9+ as well? (10.5TH)

How is it possible to read this thread and still ask a question like this?

The answer is nobody should ever use this firmware. Its trash and bricks machines, has hidden fees, and who knows what else. There are much better options out there.
268  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Gigabyte RTX 2080 Windforce OC Mining Benchmarks on: October 02, 2018, 03:22:35 PM
Everyone keeps thinking you can just apply the pill to whatever random card you want. Do 20 seconds of research and you will know the pill is for GDDR5x memory only......and the 2080 doesnt have GDDR5x memory. Now connect the dots!

and forces you to buy it with the psu attached, since the psu needs to handle about 2100 watts.

thats the frustrating thing. I have THOUSANDS of 2450w PSUs that would go to waste in this scenario. Hopefully they do like in the past and make a version with and without. Previously all of their built in PSU systems were for the chinese market only.
270  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Avalon Management System on: October 02, 2018, 03:13:32 PM
I ran and LOVED the AMS system when I had farms full of A6 units. The newer 3d more visual version that came after has never worked for me. I can get it to the same point as you, where you can login to the web console but nothing happens. I was never able to get it working and have tried multiple times over the last 2 years
271  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: antminer s9 login help on: October 01, 2018, 11:37:47 PM
Username is root for both web and SSH access. Default password for web interface is root and default password for SSH is admin

This should answer all questions about what credentials to use to login. Not sure where people are getting these other ideas from, but what is quoted is what actually works on the bitmain firmware.
272  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Braiins OS: open-source mining firmware [S9, T1] on: October 01, 2018, 11:36:29 PM
I am running this on multiple s9s off the SD card. None of them are S9i or S9j's.

Does this mean flashing to the controller is for the s9i? Because it runs fine from SD card on all of mine.
273  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Wu Announces BM 7NM pending Miner release. 42 J/TH on: October 01, 2018, 11:33:34 PM
Unless the s11 does 45 watts  and 30th with a built in psu and costs under 1000 usd.

I dont see any reason why people would want to pay extra for a built in PSU. Anyone doing mass upgrades from the S9 already has power supplies, most likely of a higher quality than the ones that come built onto miners. I know the last thing I want is another proprietary part in my datacenter that I cant just switch out on the fly.
274  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AvalonMiner 921 released - 20 TH/s @ 1700W on: October 01, 2018, 11:31:22 PM
They didn't. As I recall the initial A9 speeds they postulated were for the 941 version and not the 921.

I must have missed that, I thought that was just a generic 9 series announcement
275  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: October 01, 2018, 10:59:47 PM
Is it possible to make a 13T or 13.5T a 14T miner?
I mean they have the same number of chips and same firmware flashed for all?

On the auto tune S9s the speed is baked into the board and the firmware reads from it to know how fast to run the board. Physically they are all identical. You can use a fixed firmware or braiins OS to give yourself the ability to select speeds yourself. I currently have a 13.5TH s9 running the braiins firmware @ 15TH stable for the last week.
276  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Canada's Squire partners with Samsung and Gaonchips for new ASIC chips on: October 01, 2018, 04:31:49 PM
I believe Bitmain is really starting to panic, more manufacturers are starting to pop up and they are sitting on over 1 million Bitcoin Cash.

It's looking like this IPO is a last ditch attempt to squeeze out as much cash as they can before their whole company goes belly up.

The reports of bitmains impending demise are greatly exaggerated. Dont believe everything you hear, and dont regurgitate it as fact when no one really knows.
277  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Marco Streng CEO Genesis Mining: Please Save Cloud Miners & the Mining Contracts on: September 28, 2018, 11:52:15 PM
I think the person that wrote that petition needs to understand a few things.

First he needs to understand how cloud mining works. People blaming a cloud service provider for the rise and difficulty and drop in price is a bit silly.

Second, he needs to understand how a company works. Their job is to make a profit, you cannot punish them for looking out for the best interests of their company.

The recommendation is to create your own account and not look like a scammer yourself trying to illegally purchase accounts.

The best help I can give you is letting you know that you posted in the BITCOIN section, when you are talking about an altcoin miner. Try posting there, I guarantee you will get more help than posting here in the incorrect place.
