103  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Slush pool seems to have stopped working. Why do pools keep going down? on: June 13, 2011, 07:42:56 AM
Hopefully, it'll be back up soon. I only just started yesterday and both of the pools I've tried have crashed. It's making me not want to pool.
104  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / What's the slowest/oldest CPU to get for a GPU mining rig? on: June 13, 2011, 07:31:28 AM
Should we go as far back as Athlon XP / P4? Should the rules be as long as the mobo supports the video card you want to use, the CPU doesn't matter at all? I'm looking around for used desktops with enough of a PSU to throw a card in. I've been checking craigslist and such so advice on the CPU is welcome. Thanks.

Looks like they go for $60 including economy shipping on ebay. So, I think I'll do 2.5 BTC or best offer of 2.0+ BTC over the next couple of days. =)

110  Other / Obsolete (selling) / igo game tutorials and elementary teaching games! 0.15 / hour on: June 12, 2011, 09:50:56 PM
Hello, everyone. For those of you who don't know what igo is, see below. I've been playing go since last October and I'm current a 6kyu on the server KGS. This is a very intermediate level. For those of you who are familiar with the game and want to learn how to play or want help progressing past the beginning stages, I'm offering tutoring services.

For introductions to the game via explanation of the rules and playing 9x9 or 13x13 games, I will charge by the hour. For full-length learning games on a 19x19 board, I'll charge by the game. Rates are 0.15BTC.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Go_(game)

"Go ("weiqi" in Chinese, "baduk" in Korean), is an ancient board game for two players that originated in China more than 2,000 years ago. The game is noted for being rich in strategy despite its relatively simple rules (see Rules of Go).
The game is played by two players who alternately place black and white stones on the vacant intersections (called "points") of a grid of 1919 lines (beginners often play on smaller 9x9 and 13x13 boards). Stones act as markers, representing one's occupation of a particular point. The object of the game is to use one's stones to surround a larger portion of the board than the opponent. Once placed on the board, stones cannot be moved. If they are surrounded by the opponent's stones, they are captured and removed from the board. When a game concludes, the controlled points (territory) are counted along with captured stones (or one's own stones, as in the Chinese rule-set) along with a predetermined compensation (called "komi," with white usually getting 6.5 points komi) to determine who has more points. Games may also be won by resignation one may resign if one has fallen too far behind in total points."

There's also a very popular anime/manga titled "Hikaru no Go" that is based around the board game. You can watch the entire series for free on Hulu and it can also be watched on Netflix instant watch. It's a great series that I highly recommend.

How strong are you, Traders?
113  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: bitcoin chess... on: June 12, 2011, 08:36:36 PM
Impossible to prevent cheating. Say you go first. I use an external bot, possibly on a different computer, to mimic your move and I just see what the computer's answer is and copy that. I did it a couple of times in Go when I was still a beginner to get back at the sandbaggers pretending to be worse than they really were so they could beat up newbies. But Go is too complex for computers after a certain level so cheating at high levels is impossible without having a better player than you tell you what moves to make.
114  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is happening with Mt Gox? Last Price is fixed at 20.15 on: June 12, 2011, 08:27:59 PM
The price jump to $30, fell to $10, and went back up to $20 in only a few days. I'm sure the influx of new users is causing a lot of extra traffic and serious speculation.

Hello, I'm new to the BTC community. I spent most of yesterday learning a great deal about BTC and setting up my miner. I'm interesting in contributing my services to the BTC community and learning more about what rigs would be the most efficient miners for the price so I can focus more on that.

I'm a computer repair technician, a novice programmer, and an intermediate player of igo/baduk. Services related to these things are what I'd like to offer to the BTC. I may also eventually  seek out services in exchange for BTC such as artists and other programmers for my game development projects. Thank you and it's nice to meet all of you!
