1  Bitcoin / Press / [2018-11-01] ‘Blockchain’ is now more popular than ‘cryptocurrency,’ according on: November 02, 2018, 08:24:45 AM
It’s not the flippening everyone has been talking about, but Google search data reveals people are finally starting to show more interest in blockchain than cryptocurrency. Following the massive hype cycle at the end of last year, Google Trends suggests the term ‘blockchain’ is gradually becoming a more popular search criteria than ‘cryptocurrency.’ The first time ‘blockchain’ briefly overtook ‘cryptocurrency’ (after last year’s hype) was in July. And it has consistently attracted more searches than ‘cryptocurrency,’ since at least September.

In all fairness, Bitcoin continues to be the most commonly searched “crypto” term by far. Indeed, Google Trends suggests that ‘Bitcoin’ is nearly 10-times more popular than terms like ‘cryptocurrency’ and ‘blockchain.’ For the record, prior to 2017’s crypto-hype train, the data shows searches for the terms ‘cryptocurrency’ and ‘blockchain’ have remained relatively close in popularity over the past five years – with the exception of a few irregularities. It’s worth pointing out that Trends only shows the relative popularity of a search term. “The resulting numbers are then scaled on a range of 0 to 100 based on a topic’s proportion to all searches on all topics,” Google explains. As such, there is no telling what the real numbers for ‘blockchain’ and ‘cryptocurrency’ searches are.

If she has a favorite food or kind of food, definitely take her there! If you aren't sure, Japanese is always a good choice, as is Italian. I personally love Mexican and so does my partner, so we get that a lot!

6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / 25% of affluent millennials hold crypto on: October 31, 2018, 10:15:30 AM
So apparently 25% of affluent millennials hold cryptocurrency - are you in this category? Why do you hold crypto? How long have you been involved in crypto?

Yes - I think us as a society are addicted to our mobile phones. The new aspect of the iPhone showing screen time proves that - we almost spend more time staring at a screen than at each other! It is an epidemic

I love hot chips... I eat mostly vegetarian, with some occasional meat. I love a good risotto or pasta dish and when chicken is cooked right, it's delicious!
10  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Would you consider a painting "art" if it's made by an AI? on: October 26, 2018, 09:06:12 AM
It depends on your definition of art - in the circumstances, I believe it is art. Over the years, the concept of art has changed. Many moons ago art was carving symbols into stones, or painting your King/Queen or carving a marble statue. Granted, all are done by human hands, but maybe this is the evolution that art has been creeping towards for some time?
11  Other / Archival / Re: Is the world really waiting for a global decentralized money? on: October 26, 2018, 09:02:08 AM
Parts of the world maybe, but others not so much. A lot of people just want to ensure they have food and a roof over their heads, which some people can't even say they have. If you are speaking about wealthier people and those interested in investment, well maybe, but even then it would only be if it is going to benefit their goals
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin's White Paper Isn't Just Words – It's a Constitution on: October 26, 2018, 08:58:27 AM
Bruce Fenton, CEO of Atlantic Financial, founder of Chainstone Labs, host of the Satoshi Roundtable and board member of Medici Ventures wrote a opinion piece on Coindesk yesterday about Bitcoin's White Paper and how it isn't just a marketing or legal document.... it is a Constitution. According to Fenton, "The bitcoin white paper changed how money can work, yes, but less discussed – and even more important – is how it is changing how we share and place value on ideas." I was wondering what people's thoughts were of this point of view? Do you believe it is correct or a little wayward?

13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's with all the comparison between blockchain and banks? on: October 24, 2018, 06:15:07 AM
The media likes to pitch things against each other for the attention of those who don't have a complete grasp on the concepts - and this is a perfect example. If the reader doesn't actually understand the underlying aspects of blockchain, they would read anything a media outlet posts about it assuming it's truth (or almost truth), and then the cycle continues
14  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is trading stressful for you? on: October 24, 2018, 06:09:07 AM
Trading is definitely stressful and, depending on the person, the stress is sometimes just too overwhelming. Emotions run high and sometimes you just need a break - trading is also about being able to recognize when you need to stop and not make emotional or stressed decisions (which rarely end well!)
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Ripple Co-Founder Invests in New Crypto from David Chaum on: October 24, 2018, 06:04:13 AM
When historians set out to chronicle the development of cryptocurrency, one of the first chapters will profile DigiCash, the early digital currency startup which, decades before Bitcoin, almost fulfilled the dream of giving the internet a native currency. However, that project’s inventor, cryptography pioneer David Chaum, wants his name to appear in the book’s subsequent chapters as well. Chaum, now 63, is launching a new cryptocurrency project called Elixxir, which he claims has achieved the holy grail of network decentralization, blockchain security, and transaction speed.

In a Wall Street Journal interview published earlier this year, Chaum alleged that the technological innovations in Elixxir are game changers for blockchain adoption. “These breakthroughs I’ve made change the whole game,” he told the publication. “We can actually meet the requirements to go to consumer scale.” Specifically, Elixxir implements an inversion of the traditional blockchain model, wherein transactions are aggregated into blocks and then processed by validating nodes. Chaum said that blocks will instead be produced prior to transaction batching, allowing the network to process payments quickly, even at scale.

It remains to be seen whether the production blockchain will meet Chaum’s lofty expectations while also achieving sufficient decentralization. In the meantime, Elixxir has announced that the project has received a strategic investment from Chris Larsen, the co-founder of blockchain startup Ripple and, by virtue of his Ripple equity and remaining XRP holdings, one of the wealthiest persons in cryptocurrency.

Find things that YOU enjoy, and then find people who also enjoy those things. Having something in common is the start of great friendships!
17  Other / Off-topic / Re: how to be positive on: October 23, 2018, 04:40:52 AM
Find something that gives you happiness - it doesn't have to be complicated or expensive, it could merely be reading one page of a book every day. Focus on doing that thing AT LEAST once a day, and keep your head up in between, and this will hopefully help!

19  Bitcoin / Press / [2018-10-22] Bitcoin Price Becoming Less Volatile than Amazon Stock on: October 23, 2018, 04:07:02 AM
The next time your nocoiner friends or relatives criticize your decision to allocate a (hopefully reasonable) percentage of your investments into bitcoin, you can tell them that you’ve chosen to put money the flagship cryptocurrency because you don’t have the stomach for more volatile asset classes — stocks, for instance.

Granted, that argument doesn’t have a strong historical track record, but, according to an educational analyst at the first U.S. derivatives exchange to list bitcoin futures, BTC has lately experienced less price volatility than some of Wall Street’s most popular stocks, including tech heavyweights like Amazon, Netflix, and chipmaking giant Nvidia.

Writing in commentary cited in MarketWatch, CBOE Options Institute senior instructor Kevin Davitt stated that bitcoin’s 20-day historical volatility (HV) — i.e., the rate of change in its daily price — has dropped to 31.5 percent. By comparison, Amazon’s 20-day HV of 35 percent, Nvidia’s stands at 40 percent, and Netflix’s is nearly twice as large at 52 percent. At its current level, bitcoin is almost as stable as Apple (AAPL), the world’s most valuable company. Per the report, AAPL — whose market cap eclipses $1 trillion — has a 20-day HV of 29.3 percent.

Moreover, Davitt noted that even at its most volatile, the bitcoin price was far more stable than the share price of cannabis producer Tilray, the face of the pot stock bubble and an investment that short seller Citron Research called “more ridiculous than bitcoin.”

We can try and predict our personal futures, by working towards our goals to the best of our abilities. This does not mean you will achieve them exactly as you planned, but my belief is that is about as close as a 'life prediction' as you can get!
