Guys, does anyone know why I have a dash icon on my profile?

Is that my punishment for being inactive on this forum ?  Grin ( just kidding eh ;-)  )
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FACTOM - Introducing Honesty to Record-Keeping on: November 11, 2016, 11:38:11 AM

XEM or really any other blockchain today isn't as secure as BTC because the tiny size of their network make it vulnerable to things similar to 51% attack...
detractors of BTC would point out that a lot of BTC nodes are in China, which is not a good thing either.

on the specs side, XEM and many other blockchains are superior to BTC.... XMR has stronger anonymity, ETH has smart contracts, etc...

I suggest you take a thorough look at NEM white paper before making such claims. NEM is full of security features that don't exist in BTC. Especially the node reputation system and time synchronisation feature are things that truly matter when talking about security. Also look at PoI consensus while you're at it.

I'm far from worried about a 51% attack due to node reputation system and PoI, but feel free to describe a viable attack scenario if you have another opinion.

Most of the claims that are made when comparing security of alts against BTC is based on feelings. I personally stepped away from the subjective analysis and studied the available documentation, which made me come to the conclusion that NEM is probably one of the most secure ( if not the most secure) chain(s) in existence.

Until someone comes up with solid evidence to refute this I'd say it's all FUD!

Both Factom and Apostille probably have their pro's and cons , but I wonder if any of you have really looked at NEM and Apostille white papers before writing it off as inferior to what Factom has to offer.  Wink

By the way XMR's anonymity might be something that is highly appreciated in the crypto community but has little added value for real world applications IMO and about ETH smart contract feature; we've all noticed how superior that has been recently  Wink

4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FACTOM - Introducing Honesty to Record-Keeping on: November 10, 2016, 07:04:47 PM
BTW in some sense, BTC is already inferior to many other newer blockchains

Factom is really a BTC/ETH app and inherits from the security of those 2 blockchains.

XEM would be better IF its security was equivalent to BTC which it has no chance.

I rearranged your post a little to analyze it. Can you clarify your argument as to why NEM isn't as secure as BTC and which alts you consider superior to BTC?

Great work guys! This once more proves the utility of the NEM chain and dedication and quality of the NEM team  Grin
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: July 06, 2016, 08:11:31 PM
Are there plans to make mosaics usable separate from the NEM wallet? It would be nice to be able to create something like Bitcrystals (they use Counterparty) with it's own wallet and everything. To make it easier to brand your own token, just using the NEM network for security. I would much rather use NEM than Counterparty for my intended project, but right now it's not possible.
Why wouldn't it be possible now. You could make some adaptions to lightwallet to have it display/transact only a specific mosaic.
The only thing is that you would still need XEM to pay for transaction fees. However, there are certainly some creative solutions to that.

@rtrtcrypto
You say I got burned? When and how? (trading wise)

Also, you have to understand something, unlike most people that do not follow TA, traders following some form of proper TA (not EW IMHO) can't get REKT if they do things properly:

1) Stop loss
2) No margin or small leverage

Like I said, risk management..

Although I agree with what you say in the post above, I must say that I don't agree with you in general. (leverage is evil and I'd advise anyone to be cautious after sudden changes in price)
The thing here, is that you assume everyone is only interested in getting more BTC from trading altcoins. If you knew the NEM community you would take into consideration that we are actually only interested in long term gains.

Therefore my risk management is :

Keeping my XEM in my wallets and hold them there untill I can really start using them in stead of dumping on exchange for bargain prices :-)

Let's be fair here , you are promoting day trading while you seem to be insensitive for the fact that lots of people are not interested in those practices.

Do you know how many people we've seen here that thought that they were selling during a high with the expectation to buy when XEM was on a retrace (or whatever daytraders call it) ?
Lot's of people have burned their hands while trying to achieve some additional gains. It may very well be that you are a master trader that has a system to prevent you from missing out on these spikes but there are some facts that you are missing here.

First of all, the reason why so little people have been paying attention to NEM is because we have never been interested in hyping NEM to traders. Nothing good will come from that in the long run anyway.
Getting attention from people that are in it for the long run and are actually interested in NEM's technology is the only thing that counts.
So although we may have gotten some daytrader attention now, I'm sure some new long term hodlers have discovered NEM in the last couple of weeks.
Ever wondered why so little people are dumping after a surge like that Huh
Second thing. Lots of developments are going on behind the scenes.

Do you have any trading system/indicator that can predict the impact of the above mentioned things?

I may be wrong in not taking a profit here and there after a huge spike but at least I don't have to worry missing the train when it's leaving for the next station.

The reason I'm replying to your posts is mainly because I don't want newbie investors to listen too much to all that daytrading wisdom. It will only harm them in the long run IMO. As long as it's not daytrading that dictates the price of XEM your analysis will only get you this far, but may just as well force other people to make bad decisions for themself in the long run.

My advice to anyone interested in NEM:

1. Take your time to research what this NEM thing is all about
2. If you want to be a day trader , feel free to do so but don't forget lots of people are only losing money on it.
3. If you chose not to become a daytrader then don't let sudden price fluctuations affect your mood, don't panic sell and don't FOMO buy!
4. Enjoy the ride! Everything in life has its ups and downs. And it's the downs that separate the boys from the men (or girls from the women if you like  Wink )

It is a good ALT ?

We are better than any ALT, NEM is coded 100% from scratch, no BTC clone here!  Grin

Come to think of it. Soon NEM will be coded from scratch. twice! Smiley

12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LISK] Lisk | ICO | Decentralized Application & Sidechain Platform on: May 11, 2016, 08:34:14 PM
LISK could be closing the project to re-launch a third one and you idiots would still crowdfund it.

And it's not just LISK, people are doing similar shit with ''The DAO'' for Ethereum at the moment. Jumping in, hoping for the moon, not understanding what the fuck it is about.

''Launch in September, we'll have killer apps by then''.

No you fucking won't. Show me one ''killer'' app that's under development.

"Javascript dapp will be huge"

Please tell me how. You tell the average joe right now how a decentralised app is going to rock his world. A new paradigm. Bla bla. Give me a few GOOD reasons why dapps are so revolutionary that Lisk is the next unicorm. They're not. No one needs dapps. No one gives a shit. Smart contracts is more where it's at.

Untill I read your last two sentences, I was like : That much wisdom from a newbie account  Shocked
I totally agree with you that people do no research whatsoever when investing. It's just a crapshoot hoping to get in on that get rich quick project that may never come.
On the other hand , what is it that makes you believe that smart contracts is the game changer?
There's nothing smart about smart contracts, it's just about verifying a certain set of rules. The issue is that in order to verify something you most certainly need an external source of information which will likely cause centralisation anyway.

This ICO and DAO hype is vaporware and shitcoin 2.0 all over again. Anyone with some knowledge of  blockchain can draft a new revolutionary platform while in the end it'll be just as different from the existing platforms as those 500+ shitcoins are different from bitcoin.

My advise to anyone: Before investing in anything, compare these offerings to what happens in the business world. Companies that get +1 M$ in their series A round have a way better risk/reward ratio than anything you'll find in crypto.

Those that are around long enough have seen this all before, some dev promising the

To me personally all this vaporware is the main reason why blockchain is not getting it's break through as expected through public chains but will need the legacy companies to adopt the blockchain first and hope enough tricles down to enforce some success for the public chains. Reality will probably be more nuanced but you get my point.

RE : http://mijin.io/en/mijin-cloud-chain-beta-test

It would seem the Mijin CloudChain is the NEM platform?

"Mijin provides usable private blockchain technology that can be used via a simple JSON API."

NEM is via Java, not JSON..

NEM is built as a JAVA application but uses JSON API's. JSON is not a programming language , it's merely a way to format data similar to XML.
Mijin and NEM API's are fully interchangeable. Noteworthy: Mijin referred the API documentation on bob.nem.ninja to their customers.
In other words any company that was testing Mijin initially ( I don't know about the status now...) used the NEM API as reference!

So this is about SBI tests ? Those used AWS if I recall correctly so that certainly isn't lab internet...

I need to hold your horses for a little bit. To be clear, those WERE powerful machines.
Also keep in mind it was an experiment.

OK , I just got excited that it's even possible.  Grin

"Takao Asayama, CEO of Tech Bureau Corp, explained that distributed ledger technology when correctly applied can “transform the revenue model of the banks”. Asayama also said that the system used in the trial could handle “4-digit transactions per second while geographically dispersed” and that further improvements are currently being worked on."

Wow! 4 digits per second on separated nodes.  That isn't a lab intranet.  That is getting close to 100,000,000 transactions per day if not over.  SETL claimed 1 billion which is by far the most I have heard, but exact details and conditions of tests weren't given, nor was it mentioned if third parties were testing at that rate.

To put it in comparison, Visa also does 4 digits per second.  Maybe a peak of 4000 per second at a busy time on a busy day.

So this is about SBI tests ? Those used AWS if I recall correctly so that certainly isn't lab internet...

16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NEM gets nod of approval from major bank on: April 15, 2016, 05:21:14 PM
Why would those blocks be orphaned?

What is required for scaleability then according to you?

17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NEM gets nod of approval from major bank on: April 15, 2016, 04:34:25 PM
why does a cryptocurrency need approval from a bank?? The purpose of crypto is to compete with banks not help them.

And this shows that NEM's technology is able to do just that.
So as a NEM user this confirms that we shouldn't be worried about the network not being able to scale properly!
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: April 15, 2016, 06:41:26 AM
Things looking good for XEM!

I honestly didnt think we would reach #8 marketcap in such a short space of time.

Once things take off in Japan which it appears so, things will really explode in the asian markets and eventually globally! Grin

Don't write off South East Asia just yet. They just moved the machinery in the last 1 month. It may just overtake.  Cheesy Cheesy

what is the machinery?

That'll be the rocket launcher  Wink
