Riecoin listed on XeggeX

You can now trade RIC on XeggeX, a promising exchange!
RICB (Riecoin BEP20) is also supported, so traders now have a practical bridge between the Riecoin network and the Binance Smart Chain.

  • Available Pairs: RIC/BTC, RIC/USDT
  • Also supports Riecoin BEP20, both RIC and RICB are considered as a single asset.
  • Trading Fees: usually 0.2%
  • Withdrawal Fees: 0.00017 BTC/0.15 RIC/0.00055 BNB
  • RIC Deposit Confirmations: 10

Riecoin Core 23.04 released

Riecoin Core 23.04 was released on April 29 2023. Read the release notes to learn more about the changes from 22.03.

Important: this version brings notable changes regarding the Riecoin wallets. This has no consequence for new Riecoin users, but some actions may be required if a previous Riecoin version was used. If you are upgrading from an older version, please read the release notes above carefully.

If you are have questions or are unsure of anything, the community will be glad to assist you for the upgrade. As always, it is recommended to do it as soon as possible, though there is also no hurry, just find a time where you are comfortable to properly understand the instructions and perform the upgrade. The wallet changes were quite exceptional and future upgrades will usually not require particular interventions like for this release.

The latest binaries can be downloaded here.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][RIC] Riecoin: constellations POW *CPU* HARD FORK successful, world record on: April 27, 2022, 09:34:38 PM
To expand the use cases of RIC, a token was created in the Binance Smart Chain, so Riecoin can now be used in some DeFi services and Decentralized Exchanges.

Token Contract: 0xc2097531d6cd4a712ae08f398283a92631dc39f9
RICB can currently be traded with any other BEP20 token on PancakeSwap. The contract must be entered as token in the swap form.

https://twitter.com/RiecoinDev/status/1519424041861459970

Additionally, Riecoin is now listed on UdonTrade! And they did it for free, thank them by bringing some liquidity there!

RIC/BTC: https://www.udontrade.com/market/ricbtc
RIC/USDT (ERC20, BEP20, TR20): https://www.udontrade.com/market/ricusdt

They also support Riecoin BEP20 and can act as a RIC/RICB bridge as one can for example deposit RICB and withdraw RIC to make a RICB -> RIC swap.

They turned out to be a scam unfortunately :|
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GAP] Gapcoin - Prime Gap Search - New Math Algo - CPU / GPU - Zero Premine on: March 13, 2022, 06:55:34 PM
The lack of interest for RIC and GAP sure is depressing... To think that while both projects reunited have maybe a hundred of miners, thousands many more are wasting resources in CPU/GPU hash coins just because they are popular, profitable, and had the luck to have someone with a lot of resources at their side to spread the word and build a true and supportive community. Our records would be so much more interesting if we had that many miners! Not counting the network effect that would put us in a virtuous circle and bring us developers and scientists to improve existing software and make the findings even more interesting and maybe expand the useful PoWs to more fields.
Really discouraging to see that all the interest we gather is from people like the dude currently spreading FUD on Riecoin and harassing me, or the other infamous #7 user.
And now some politics are wanting to ban PoW coins, of course they have no clue that PoW can produce valuable scientific data.

Minerja said some valid points... Our projects are already 8 years old so if there is no interest after all these years, why would there be suddenly some interest later. People are just discarding the projects thinking that they are dead or have no chance to get some traction anyway. Prices are remaining very low so we are in a vicious circle where miners are reluctant to stay for the reasons mentioned and we lose even more interest, and it becomes easy for some malicious people like the one I mentioned to destroy all our hard work.

Honestly as a Riecoin developer since several years, I don't have much hope anymore to see our projects get the attention they deserve while we are drowning under thousands of Shibs, Doges and silly NFTs and Defi that get all the attention. We might have more chances if we launched ourselves some joke coin on April 1.

By the way, while BitcoinFx and me are in good contact and support each other, Gapcoin and Riecoin developers still work pretty independently despite following very similar goals, so usually one coin would benefit from some development but not the other, and that work would have to be duplicated to benefit both coins, which is a real waste. Riecoin Core 22.03, based on Bitcoin Core 22.0, was recently released, but Gapcoin is still yet at 0.16.3 and not sure that SegWit is even activated... Let alone TapRoot/Schnorr Signatures.
Same for exchanges as they will often list one coin but not the other (or we have to pay the listing several times). And pools.
There are certainly things that could be done in this direction to make both projects stronger, reduce the work division, and have an opportunity to organize a "rebirth" of math coins that may be the key to gather some fresh interest.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][RIC] Riecoin: constellations POW *CPU* HARD FORK successful, world record on: March 13, 2022, 12:11:09 PM
I APPOLOGIZE Thomas NQUYEN For Running Riecoin Node under name  "/GpuRICn:0.21.0/" and for  signing mined blocks by "/GPU REAL MINER 2/
I state that ALL OF FUTURE REWARDS will be rejected by me and requested to send them for helping people from Ukraine.

Waiting for your response now.
I  am waiting for your response here:

Oh more banning? Riecoin will be testnet for me. You will only take responsibility for calling me scammer.

Your new Riecoin Forum account is supposed to be a throwaway account to make an appeal, and you wasted your last opportunity to redeem yourself. It is thus logical that it is banned.
And again, I never called you a scammer. Are you trying hard to make me say such thing so you can sue me?
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][RIC] Riecoin: constellations POW *CPU* HARD FORK successful, world record on: March 13, 2022, 11:43:05 AM
Hello Thomas. I invite you only for phone talk. Do not afraid and don't hide after public.
Please paste our talks from Discord here, all messages with screenshots so if you don't have anything to hide you will provide
our talk history here. Please only delete my phone number I sent you.

How many times we talked?

Also if you wanted attention you get it.

- offering by me financial help for project : you name it empty words - proof?
- talking with you about my ideas about project : you name it empty words - PLEASE SHOW ME WHERE MY IDEAS WERE PUBLISHED AND PROMISES TOO,
do you always score people and discriminate people wanted to talk with you?
- naming my records as Banned is Manipulation - am I wrong?
- PLEASE publish here when I talked about GPU miner? 3 days ago? And am I offered GPU miner? Please publish proof here. Miner mod? Am I annoyed other users?

PLEASE REMOVE ALL URL's I SENT YOU AND PASSWORDS including names and mails from messages you publish here, IT IS PRIVATE DATA

Remember who you asked about some mining pool to get them info "GPUminerDOESnotEXIST" ?

Optimized Riecoin Miner - I optimized your miner a long time ago, you first asked me - JUST PASTE HERE ALL OUT MESSAGES. You calling me a scammer. Waiting for apologize me until today 3 PM UTC. if you will not apologize  me then case will be managed by Lawyer. I am not a scammer.
GPU Miner - why You can compile it under OpenCL (eg. CUDA)? It is possible, but performance will be low... or not? :>

Any previous contact with you was to help you and your project, especially last one, so lets ban other Riecoin users from project, this is very "good" for project future.

If you mean again that I sell all Riecoins then I will sell them again and friend of my friend will ban you on his personal ICM.
And for real - you are serious to be angry for selling RIC?

I promised you that I will mine 80% of blocks daily - man, you are >30 years old....

This is my last public information about it. I treated you as "friend", i was wrong. Live long and prosper. Just waiting to say "I am sorry" from you. Remember nice guy that
almost "forced you" to modify miner for manage more SieveWorkers and when he asked question not suitable for you? You banned him, he really wanted to help. So he also deserve for your apologize... more than me.

I am sorry and I need to apologize you that no project was released publicly from my side, when I will have time maybe I will release something,
but I will ban myself before I do anything - JOKE.

Waiting for apologize. I also apologize you that last 3 days I named my wallet, address GPUMiner - sorry, 3 days man! DAYS !!!!
If you don't have money to call me, let me know we can talk in real.

11:11 AM UPDATE: I also see that on your forum I was named as scammer so after you read my message I will wait 1 hour then I will report it also to authorities.

Okay everyone, grab some pop corn.

Frankly, I don't really know your true intentions. Maybe you really want to help Riecoin. But your actions are clearly harming us instead, and don't reflect your words of supporting Riecoin and seeing it as the best cryptocurrency ever. What you are saying here is a good summary of our talks and it just need my version. You want me to be sorry? Then Ok, sorry man, I get that you are angry, it is normal to be after being banned... And I thank you for explaining yourself here. I give you a chance to appeal and you are taking it, so let's discuss.
Now, just Chill and stop insulting me in the social networks, delete that Tweet and Reddit comment, Ok? Only then I will delete the screenshot showing your name. I have no obligation to delete them otherwise because you are the one who chose to insult me and my Father and it is how the Internet works. You are the one who owes me excuses.
And don't say nonsense, there is no password or mail unless you are using your username as password.
Your username here also speaks against you... Man, this will become some MÍme Material...

We already talked for months on Discord and talking on phone will not bring anything and I just don't want to dox myself to some stranger. And it is better to talk about that in public so the discussion has more chance to evolve rather than stall like it did for months.

Banning you from the Constellation Explorer is no manipulation... The Explorer is not the Blockchain, nobody banned you from the Blockchain and you can continue mining... There are rules. If you prefer, you have been disqualified rather than banned, like tennis players that throw balls and hurt linesmen. And if you want, you could create your own Constellation Explorer and ban me there...

Financial support... Then care to show a Transaction Id of BTC or RIC from you sent to a donation address bc1qr3yxckxtl7lacvtuzhrdrtrlzvlydaneqela0u/ric1qr3yxckxtl7lacvtuzhrdrtrlzvlydane2h37ja? And not just 0.01 RIC donations worth just $0.00005?
Indeed, you did propose some fiat payment, but I declined, because again I don't want to dox my info, I don't trust you, and if you really want to help, it just takes some extra steps to convert your fiat to BTC and send to a public donation address. Can you do that? Would you do that? Could you donate more than just a few cents? If so, I would be glad to withdraw some "Empty words" accusations. But otherwise yes, such financial support offer is just empty words.

Oooh that nice guy? Who then downed the Riecoin community and project just because we happened to be all busy and did not reply to his question instantly? Trash talked us after all the help we already gave him voluntarily? And to be fair, he was the one who left the server first and giving us no chance to help.

Of course, I asked you a thousand times about that miner mod. There is even a public mention from you about the Mod in the Riecoin Forum. Yet you never showed anything. Where is the GitHub repository? Tell me! Show me that and I will gladly remove some more empty words accusations.
Never said that you are the scammer who proposed a "GPU miner" nor even that you talked about a GPU miner. However, you are definitively behind some "GPU miner" FUD.

Quote
I also apologize you that last 3 days I named my wallet, address GPUMiner - sorry, 3 days man! DAYS !!!!

If you apologize about doing some "GPU miner" FUD, and stop that "/GpuRICn:0.21.0/" and "/GPU REAL MINER 2/" thing, then Ok, I could accept the apologies and consider unban you. Or just show me the GitHub repository of a "real GPU miner". But if you keep spreading that FUD and harming the Twitter accounts, then I have no reason to unban someone that is misleading and harming the Riecoin community.

Quote
I am sorry and I need to apologize you that no project was released publicly from my side, when I will have time maybe I will release something,

Months have already elapsed and your other project is not that complicated, and you even say that you have a team of developers. Okay, it is easy to underestimate the time needed to complete a project, but then in this case, you at least show your progress after all this time. But no, you never show anything concrete. So yes, that is just empty talking to pretend to work on a project and deliver nothing.
And when you say that you are angry that the Halving has been decided without you last week, one can just doubt on your abilities to actually deliver something meaningful.

Quote
Waiting for apologize me until today 3 PM UTC. if you will not apologize  me then case will be managed by Lawyer. I am not a scammer.
I will wait 1 hour then I will report it also to authorities.

Seriously, making threats again and again... If you used the money to actually support Riecoin instead of suing everyone that annoys you...
Frankly, with your toxic behavior, even if you do deliver things, you don't deserve to be unbanned. You are currently still spreading lies on Twitter and harming the Riecoin social media. If you stop all that bad faith and deliver, then maybe I can change my mind.
Maybe I am wrong to ban you and all, but I genuinely don't think that you will ever provide anything positive for Riecoin. Now it is up to you to prove that I am wrong by stopping all that nonsense and start providing concrete work.
Otherwise don't insist and just move on. There are thousands of other projects you could provide all your support, that would maybe welcome your help more than us. We can still remain in good terms that way.

I was going to send the message, but now I see

Quote
Thomas Failed. Sorry. I don't allow to post my messages anymore. For calling me scammer you will pay a huge price, now I am going to report it to the Police, they will forward it to Geneva and your University because they found a contact there.

So we will switch on all mining pools starting today. Now 90% miners are offline. Pleas don't contact me. Copy of message posted here will be sent to you via DM.

Password to this account also.

Okay, okay, I am soooo afraiiid...
You just wasted your last chance to be unbanned.
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][RIC] Riecoin: constellations POW *CPU* HARD FORK successful, world record on: March 04, 2022, 07:10:08 PM
I didn't test this feature either, but I don't see any reason it would not work. Your support is appreciated!

There is currently some drama with an user "Romezowe"/"McMuch", who is behind some "GPU miner" FUD, and attempting to propose a "modded miner" to some involved in Riecoin (especially Pool Operators) in exchange for some obscure partnership.

For those who don't know, there is since a while a large miner called something like "RTX1660TEST1" in SuprNova wanting to make people think that a new GPU miner was created, thus creating some doubt regarding Riecoin being CPU only. But I can confidently say that there is no efficient GPU miner out there.
The user did the mistake to start doing Solo Mining and leaving clear links with the user Romezowe. While the link between RTX1660TEST1 and Romezowe is not certain, it is however provable that Romezowe has intentions to do some FUD about an nonexistent GPU miner.
Personally, he annoyed me for months, pretending to support Riecoin and to be working on interesting software, but of course did never deliver anything. Meanwhile he is behind all that GPU FUD stuff. And I am not the only one who was annoyed by all his empty talk.
Liars and empty talkers have no place in the Riecoin community. That user has been banned from all Riecoin communication channels.

Well, if you show me that "GPU REAL MINER", then I could maybe reconsider the ban Wink.
But we can confidently affirm that there is no efficient GPU miner out there. Beware of persons that may propose you a "GPU" or "optimized" or "modded" miner in exchange for money or anything, they are scammers.

Okay, now insulting me on Twitter and Reddit, and thinking that the Halving is "Blochchain Manipulation"!

Well, if someone else does find the ban unjustified, let me know, I am of course open to arguments Wink.
We can also discuss about that here in a neutral forum Roman Wink.

It should work fine, though I did not test it with NOMP-RIC as I don't maintain it anymore.
Ideally, your pool should starting from now use StellaPool so it can also distribute PoWc and be listed in the Riecoin Faucet. And the latest StellaPool code will always work with the latest Riecoin Core version.

Riecoin Core 22.03 and new RIC software released, halving, 1,000,000 RIC Bounty

Riecoin Core 22.03 is out. This version ports the Bitcoin 22.0 improvements and adds a code generator, which can be used for passwordless or 2-factor authentication. It also includes the Bitcoin's Pull Requests 21500 (for exporting Descriptors) and 24058 (for initial Bip 322 message signing support). New wallets can only be Descriptor Wallets, though old Legacy Wallets are still supported.

While not mandatory, it is recommended to upgrade now to 22.03. Upgrading from 0.21 is straightforward and no particular precaution should be taken, though we will always remind you to make backups of your wallets. You can learn more about this version on the dedicated topic. If you find some time, please migrate your wallets to Descriptor Wallets; this is not urgent, but the support of Legacy Wallets will eventually be dropped. It will also be the case for Bitcoin, so doing it for Riecoin would be a great preparation.

In addition to a new Riecoin Core version, several new software were developed. rieWallet is a thin Riecoin wallet that makes it very easy to receive and send Riecoins without any setup or blockchain download. This is great for Riecoin beginners or people that don't have a powerful computer.

StellaPool is a new Riecoin mining pool software, that replaces NOMP-RIC. It was written from scratch and provides the main features that one would expect from a mining pool. StellaPool also propose an innovative PoW Credits (PoWc) feature, which distributes points to miners that can be "consumed" for services. PoWc are also designed to replace captchas. Start integrating this technology in your services to make the Internet a better place! A practical application of the PoW as captcha alternative is our new Riecoin Faucet: claim coins without solving any captcha!

A new Riecoin mining pool opened, and you can now mine RIC on Stelo.xyz! It is also currently the only mining pool that distributes PoWc, which can be consumed in the Riecoin Faucet and any service integrating this technology.

This news is a great occasion to reminder that the second RIC halving will occur in a few days at Block 1680000. This means that RIC will become scarcer over time, so now is a strategic time to stack some RIC while they are still cheap!

Thanks to all the Riecoin miners, we kept finding interesting Prime Constellations, with 50 prime nonuplets and 2 prime 10-tuplets since the second Fork, which all beat all previous world records. Some of our records are shown in the German Wikipedia, so you too, start mining RIC, create an account in the Constellation Explorer, and become a Champion! The more we are, and the larger and more interesting the k-tuplets we find are! No other PoW cryptocurrency offers such exciting competition, so consider giving up the search for hashes!

Despite our efforts, Riecoin remains in the shadows. So we have opened a Bounty of 1,000,000 RIC for whoever brings us some light! This is more than 1% of all the RIC that will ever exist and a unique opportunity to make large profits as if we ever reach the USD ATH again, which is far from utopic given the billions that go in silly projects, one million RIC would be worth more than $500,000.

One last thing, we are now using a new Twitter account. Please unfollow @riecoin and follow @RiecoinDev starting from now.

Excuse me sirs, My wallet is version 0.10.2.0-gf192dab-beta (64-bit) on Windows10. Now it's stuck on 41 weeks ago. How to solve this problem?

The problem is simply that you are using a way outdated version that does not support the second fork.

Riecoin Core 0.21 released, new records, and more!

Riecoin Core 0.21 is out. This version is not as critical as 0.20 that brought the Hard Fork, but it incorporates important upgrades from Bitcoin, in particular the highly anticipated Taproot/Schnorr Signatures Soft Fork. Please upgrade to 0.21 in order to benefit from the latest features and ensure a smooth Soft Fork that will prepare us for future improvements. Upgrading from 0.20 is straightforward and no particular precaution should be taken, though we will always remind you to make backups of your wallets. You can learn more about this version on the dedicated topic.

GitHub repository
Binaries

That is not all. Since the Hard Fork, we beat the prime 9-tuplet record four times! You can explore the tuples found since the Fork in our newly created Constellation Explorer. Start mining RIC, spread the word, and have fun competing with other Riecoin miners! Remember that you can earn bounties if you find some interesting tuplets!

Be sure to check out rieMiner-Qt, providing an user friendly interface making Riecoin mining even easier. Available in Windows, Linux, and even Android! It was written by DeKon.

Finally, say welcome to the latest Riecoin Pool, riecoinpool.sytes.net!

I ported the Riecoin code to Bitcoin Core 0.21. It is basically ready for a Stable Release, i just need some confirmations that it works well from others.
Info with links to Code and Binaries: https://forum.riecoin.dev/viewtopic.php?p=92#p92

We will likely start the Taproot/Schnorr Signatures Soft Fork activation process once 0.21 Stable is out.

Riecoin Second Hard Fork Successful!

The Riecoin network successfully hard forked this Monday 29 at Block 1482768 as expected and without any incident. Thanks to everyone who made this fork possible!

Starting from now, every miner will have the possibility to beat prime k-tuplets records while mining. If you are interested, follow this guide in order to configure rieMiner to find longer constellations.

In addition to be a network ready for future improvements, Riecoin also proved once again that it provides efficient software and concrete results for scientific research as the 8-tuplet world record was recently beaten again using rieMiner.
A reward of 2000 RIC was claimed for this record, be sure to check the interesting Riecoin bounties that are currently proposed to earn yourself some sound money! To celebrate the Fork, we are also extending our 77,777.77 RIC Anniversary Bounty (worth more than $1000 at current prices) for interesting records by three months!
If you want to see something accomplished and are paying in RIC, do not hesitate to propose your own bounty as well!

One last news, there is a new Riecoin pool, you can now mine RIC on MiningMadness.com.

Riecoin Core 0.20.0 released, hard fork information, and new Forum

It has taken some time, but the Riecoin network is now ready for the hard fork, with almost every miner, pool, and a majority of nodes having upgraded to 0.20 RC or planning to do it soon.

In order to finalize the fork, the stable version of Riecoin Core 0.20 has been released, and a Mainnet fork block has this time been set. The Riecoin network will hard fork at Block 1482768, or around March 29, which should give plenty of time for anyone still using old versions. Please upgrade to 0.20 as soon as possible!
Find the latest binaries here.
Exchanges and other services like Block Explorers will directly be notified about the fork.

As a reminder, the fork brings an important PoW upgrade, allowing miners to find much more interesting prime constellations and beat records, improves the Difficulty Adjustment Algorithm and implements stricter time checks to make the network more robust, and fixes some protocol design issues. You can learn more by reading the previous news, which also reminders which actions to take if you are still using older versions. In these cases, even though the upgrade should go fine, we always recommend to backup your private keys just in case.

If you already upgraded to 0.20 RC, the only thing you have to do is to restart your node with the stable 0.20 version, and you will be ready for the fork. No other action has to be done.

One more news, Riecoin now has an official forum! News will starting from now always be posted there, and development discussions will mainly take place here too, rather then being spread throughout Discord, GitHub or other places. The forum will help to organize discussions and make them more open and broad. We recommend everyone interested in Riecoin to join the forum!

what is the difference between primecoin and riecoin?

There is of course the different PoW (Cunningham Chains vs Prime Constellations for Riecoin), the most obvious change in practice is that Primecoin is GPU mineable while Riecoin is mined with CPUs. Then there are several parameter changes, like 1 minute average block time for Primecoin and 2.5 minutes for Riecoin, different block reward system, etc. The communities are also pretty distinct with their own visions and goals.

Is there discord?

As far as I can see all pools on 16. Fork is to rev 20. Is 20 only solo right now? Please give some more information of fork?

Discord invite: https://discord.gg/2sJEayC

Updated pool information can be found here. https://riecoin.dev/en/Pools
PrimaPool is the first 0.20 ready pool. XpoolX is also 0.20 ready since a few days ago, though it still has the old version too.

You can get some info in the news about the fork. https://riecoin.dev/en/News/Riecoin_Core_0.20.0_RC_and_rieMiner_0.92_released
It was from almost 2 months ago and the hard fork is unfortunately delayed due to several actors being unable to upgrade quickly.
Currently the fork is mainly on the pools' hands. 0.20 stable with a Mainnet hard fork block cannot be released until most pools and their miners have upgraded (most of the solo miners already upgraded to 0.20RC).

Riecoin Core 0.20.0 RC and rieMiner 0.92 released

The Riecoin second fork implementation was completed and Riecoin Core 0.20.0 RC was released. Binaries can be downloaded here.

Along with Riecoin Core 0.20.0 RC, a new stable rieMiner version was released, required to mine with the newest software. rieMiner 0.92 can be downloaded here.

The Riecoin website has also been fully revamped and proposes much more documentation than previously.

Testnet will fork at Block 79056, in about a week but can be less or more depending on mining activity there. No fork block has been yet decided for Mainnet, but it will probably be about one or two weeks after the Testnet fork depending on how ready the Riecoin actors are and if major bugs were discovered during the Testnet fork.

Starting from now, the cooperation of everyone involved in Riecoin is critical to ensure a smooth upgrade.

Read the news on Riecoin.dev to learn more about the fork and how to be ready for it.

Donations for the work done on this 0.20 upgrade would be appreciated a lot!

Everyone can participate in the original Discord. You just need to make a post first to be "activated" for antispam reasons and to help having people actually involved or at least interested in Riecoin rather than some random people that randomly clicked on the invite link.
Getting full permissions is not immediate, sure, but the "only a handful of people have the power to converse" is just plain wrong.
If many don't like this system, I am willing to change it, though it has fair reasons to be there. But no reason to start pointless wars splitting and harming the community by creating another Discord.

Upcoming Major Riecoin 0.20 Upgrade

A new major Riecoin upgrade is planned, and includes a hard fork. I worked on it during the last few weeks.

The first step of this upgrade was to update the base code to Bitcoin's 0.20, which is done. You can find the experimental code at the Github repository. I also built experimental binaries. Despite their prerelease status, they should work fine and be fully compatible with current 0.16 nodes, though please backup your wallets if you plan to use 0.20, just in case. Feedback is welcome!

Pool operators and other advanced Riecoin users should start looking into the changes and update their software accordingly, as well as closely follow the Riecoin Core development.

Here is a list of notable changes from 0.16.3.1.

  • There were inconsistencies regarding the nTime and nBits positions in the Block Header. For example the SubmitBlock and GetBlockHeader commands were inconsistent regarding this. This is now fixed, with nTime always coming before nBits like for Bitcoin. Internally, when hashing for mining or to get a block hash, nBits must still come before nTime (I really don't know what Gatra did, this swap was just unnecessary). Riecoin related software should be updated accordingly. This includes rieMiner, which current stable version is no longer compatible with 0.20, but the latest source code is;
  • Testnet was reset. I only know about 2 active Testnet nodes, and both forked for some reason, so it was clear that a fresh start was needed. Additionally, the constellations for Testnet are no longer sextuplets, but quadruplets, and the minimum Difficulty was raised to 600 rather than 304. Testnet nodes are needed, as well as continuous spare mining power to mine test blocks and make Testnet a decent simulation of Mainnet. Please use the Testnet bootstrap found here;
  • The "getnetworkhashps" command was replaced by "getnetworkminingpower" (and fixed: previously it only relied on the current Difficulty, now it works properly with lookup blocks). A new metric is used, and is standardized such that 1 correspond to mining a minimum difficulty block (Difficulty 304 in Mainnet or 600 in Testnet) every 150 s. For now it is proportional to the Difficulty^(constellationLength + 2.3), in accordance to observations with rieMiner; the formula may be improved later at any time. The Block Proofs/Chainwork are also now using a similar calculation;
  • The GetBlockTemplate's "primes" field is replaced by "constellations", which gives a list of accepted constellations for mining rather than just a constellation size. The "segwit" rule is now mandatory;
  • The "getprimes" RPC call is replaced by "getresult" and gives directly the base prime number, instead of all the prime numbers. It will be completed later to include information about the PoW;
  • Generated addresses are now Bech32 by default;
  • The RegTest is now properly implemented (the PoW here is simply prime numbers). Most of the test units were ported to Riecoin;
  • And of course, all the Bitcoin features and bug fixes since 0.17 are now included in Riecoin. Read the Bitcoin Core change logs for more information.

The base code upgrade is pretty much done, though some help is still needed in order to complete the build system and the test units.

No seed node nor DNS seed node IP were hardcoded yet, so one needs to add nodes in the riecoin.conf (there is a template in the binaries page). Please support the network by providing reliable Riecoin nodes and DNS seeders for the long term and share them for hardcoding! This will make initial sync possible without having to add some nodes in the configuration file.

The next step will be the hard fork, in order to improve Riecoin in multiple ways. Early discussions took place here, as well as in Discord and a few posts here somewhat far in the past. Here are planned changes.

  • The constellation pattern will be changed from sextuplets to septuplets (quintuplets in Testnet). Both possible patterns will be accepted, so the blockchain will provide more diverse results. One of them will have a chance to be a 8-tuple or longer, which would help a lot to beat records and improve the Riecoin's scientific usefulness. In contrast, the sextuplets cannot be part of longer tuples, which is really a shame. Moreover, longer constellations are also better because they make verification even easier in comparison to finding them, which make them more practical as PoW;
  • The SuperBlock system will be removed. While records have indeed been broken this way, it also has significant drawbacks, like freezing the network during an hour every week and a complicated implementation that also confuses a lot of people;
  • The Difficulty Adjustment Algorithm will be improved. No particular algorithm has been chosen yet. The chosen one should not be too complicated to implement, while improving resistance to attacks like Selfish Mining or Timestamp Manipulations, proposing smooth Difficulty updates (often enough and without sudden variations) and well respecting the 2.5 minute average for the long term. The discussion is open and DAA Suggestions are welcome!
  • The nOffset encoding will be updated in order to allow offsets > 2^256, which allows more efficient mining. Some PoW information like the constellation type may also use this field. See a former rieMiner's developer suggestion about this.

Once the development is advanced enough, a date will be chosen for the hard fork. Testnet will be hardforked first to ensure the well functioning of the implementation (that is also why a proper Testnet network is needed). Stay tuned!

By the way, I am thinking about creating a new BitcoinTalk topic with updated first post (it is clear that Gatra will never come back to update the post, and having outdated information in such an important post does not give a good image of Riecoin and is a source of confusion), and will proceed soon unless some community members are opposed to this.

New Mining Calculator available to estimate very quickly and roughly the earnings.

Turns out Riecoin Mining can be surprisingly profitable...
