21  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Piper: A paper wallet generator and printer - Project Update on: May 23, 2013, 07:01:59 AM
Could you give us more details about the printer?

If it's just a standard thermal printer I'd be very concerned about the durability. 7 years under ideal conditions doesn't seem very long.

Ideally you'd laser etch it into stainless steel or something, but that's not very practical Smiley

Maybe I'm just paranoid.

You are definitively paranoid ;-)

I would be more concerned about storing the pieces of paper in a safe place, where your pets/foes can't reach them. Moving coins to a new wallet every 5 years does not look like a terribly complicated chore.

Us Fedora/OpenSUSE users don't have a way to compile binaries for ourselves. It would be helpful if there were options for us.

One of the better quotes in this forum so far Cheesy

What about refills of the paper? Smiley

Tulkas, so who pays for the arbitration?
25  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: May 13, 2013, 12:27:15 PM
Not reading whole 17 page thread - understandable.
Not reading first post - fail!
Check it out, there's even a pretty picture of a mockup.
The mockup not including the fan - understandable.

Me failing to read the important line

Thanks for the reply, tigerbit!
26  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Idea for brick-and-mortar Bitcoin use on: May 13, 2013, 12:23:41 PM
I don't see which problem this solves.

Why is it better than the standard way that is being used now? I mean, the shop generates a new BTC address and displays its QR code after your step 1, the customer scans it, its mobile phone makes a transaction. All right, internet connection in the phone is required, but that is almost a given nowadays.
27  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: May 13, 2013, 06:11:37 AM
I admit I didn't read the whole thread, but still:

From the last post of burnin, it seems that the cooling will be passive (only aluminium and copper). Do I understand this correctly, or is the presence of huge fans understood automatically? Thanks!
28  Economy / Securities / Re: [BitFunder] Ziggap Bitcoin Sales Service on: April 29, 2013, 07:49:19 PM
I have his address and stuff, but I never had the need to ask for his phone number.  Coingenuity has his phone number and has called his wife, iirc.

Right, but he does not seem too active on the forum anymore:

Ryan is gone, IMO.  I don't think the site is coming back up Sad.

You seem to be one of the few aethero's most trusted people (according to bitcoin-otc). Can you not contact him/his wife somehow and find out what is going on?

I think even knowing that Ryan is having a nervous breakdown would be a service to the community and aethero himself. He might get better at some point and wish to contribute to this bitcoin thing again..
30  Economy / Securities / Re: [BitFunder] Ziggap Bitcoin Sales Service on: April 29, 2013, 03:04:20 PM
We're not psychologists, so I would try not to "diagnose" him with disorders.  I think it's more likely that aethero (Ryan) posted this, and his wife saw it and deleted it.

Anything's possible, but let's look at all the possibilities.

Right, I am not a psychiatrist and I am only guessing. It could also be anything else and your version indeed sounds more plausible.

Holy crap, this just gets weirder and weirder.
User 'ZIGGAP' then goes on to explain that they never posted that, yet they don't offer one single explanation as to what is happening with the business. Bizarre. Here are the posts http://www.reddit.com/user/ZIGGAP

Sadly, we are probably dealing with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dissociative_identity_disorder  Undecided
32  Economy / Lending / Re: [LOANED]Loan Request: 1.5BTC for 7 days (repaid at 2BTC on the 7th) on: April 19, 2013, 10:39:18 PM
This is really sad.

heart_mons, any chance you will pay back the loan even being late?

It is utterly unpleasant that a successful loan deal with me has been used as a trust token for this failed loan.
33  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-04-16 Bloomberg - Bitcoin Dreams Endure to Savers Crushed by CPI: Argentina on: April 16, 2013, 02:15:24 PM
What's TradeHill going to do with all the Argentine currency that they receive?

One can always sell it for USD in the black market.
34  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] BTCJam - Peer to Peer Bitcoin Lending on: April 16, 2013, 02:08:01 PM
Thanks for the note trading feature, Tulkas!

Just one question - what happens to the notes after they are sold? Will they still show up on 'my notes' page, or will they just disappear?

As a general remark, it would be great to have access to a log of what happened with the account. Coins in and out, loans funded, payments made in/out etc. Am I the only one missing that feature?
35  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Why was BitcoinReporter twitter account suspended? on: March 26, 2013, 10:03:47 AM
I've just noticed that twitter.com/bitcoinreporter has been suspended. Any insight?
36  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] BTCJam - Peer to Peer Bitcoin Lending on: December 10, 2012, 06:26:12 PM
hen you could have a rating from the site as a whole, not between individuals using BTCJam...
This sounds good! Maybe a feature that should be implemented after the loan collection thingy Grin
37  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] BTCJam - Peer to Peer Bitcoin Lending on: December 09, 2012, 04:23:30 PM
Perhaps all we need is a voting system
based off bitcointalk messages
vote for someone yes or no, or just leave a specific comment
then hardline those into people's btcjam profiles
crude way but it would solve this temporary reputation problem
make users have to wait and gain a rep on bitcointalk first. (months, I know Wink )

But this has already been implemented: that is what bitcoin-otc.com web of trust is. The ratings come into btcjam.com profiles, too.
38  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [ANNOUNCE] picocoin and libccoin -- C-based bitcoin library and client on: December 07, 2012, 02:01:08 PM
A total lamer here: if I have a private key of a bitcoin address, that has 1 BTC in it, can I spend it with picocoin? Or does it only know about transactions that are broadcast to it? Thank you.
39  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Assurance contracts on: December 07, 2012, 01:48:40 PM
I'm sorry to invade the discussion with something not related to the above-mentioned implementation, but nevertheless: don't you consider the fact that assurance contracts are easily exploitable to make their use quite limited?

What I have in mind is that (in the language of https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Contracts example 3) after starting a fundraiser for 1000 BTC, and noticing that only 100 BTC will be raised by the deadline, the (fraudster) entrepreneur can sign a pledge for 900 BTC her/himself, and therefore get the 100 BTC as opposed to these coins returning to the donors.

Any comments are appreciated.
40  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] BTCJam - Peer to Peer Bitcoin Lending on: December 06, 2012, 11:28:53 AM
There have been people that tried to take court actions with people who they have loaned bitcoins to, they were laughed out court. Do research it will help with your loaning as well Wink

gweedo, could you please give a link to any info having to do with bitcoin loans in courts? I admit I am an idiot and hence cannot find any info about that.
