41  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] BTCJam - Peer to Peer Bitcoin Lending on: December 04, 2012, 09:55:09 PM
so nothing is gonna happen to all those scammers? i lost 15 bitcoins in total to the taxi dude and to the gold bar guy.  (and 80 to pirate). might aswell scam my 100 lost bitcoins back if noone does jack shit.

This is a bummer, man. Even worse, now that a lot of coins was lost, it will be much harder and more expensive for people to borrow, as the lenders will be more conservative in their decisions.

About the "big default" one day delay at the weekend is hardly a default.

The purpose of the verification process was explained several times on this thread.

This does not answer any of my comments. However, that is fine and I sincerely hope that the debt collection thing is getting closer.

I still wonder what is meant by the repayment rate. Could you please comment on it, I don't think you have defined it earlier. Thanks!

I will repost here updated site-wide statistics:

loans: 228
total payments: 964
payments late: 215
fully repaid loans: 105

We have a repayment rate of 77.69%.
The majority of unpaid loans are from anonymous borrowers.

I wonder what is meant by the repayment rate? Is it (coins paid back)/(coins borrowed) or 1-(defaulted loans)/(loans funded) ?
If it is the former, I think the ratio will go down quite a bit, as a big default ( https://btcjam.com/listings/516 ) has just happened Smiley

Also, what I have noticed is that ratings do not necessarily correlate with repayment. Look e.g. at https://btcjam.com/listings/401 or
https://btcjam.com/listings/377 that are freshly defaulted loans by people who had almost everything verified. I think that at this point
it is obvious that some kind of debt collection option is a necessary condition for btcjam to exist as a mainstream thing.
44  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Bitmessage - P2P Messaging system based partially on Bitcoin on: November 29, 2012, 08:44:09 PM
A few complaints. Due to firewall restrictions, I'm only able to connect through a handful of whitelisted ports. It'd be nice if the program could automatically determine an open one to use. Second of all, I have to click on my "From" address in order for it to populate the from field, despite it being selected by default.
+1 on the from address problem

Interesting ... are there any live test nodes up yet?

Yes - you can send a message to BM-2nnaRUg6eCsskHHueKjWf6m5sHmhW7ChBSs , which is an address listed on http://bitmessage.org . Yesterday I sent a message there and got a reply Smiley
46  Economy / Lending / Re: [Loan] Help me save money on: November 29, 2012, 09:53:15 AM
I would be more than willing to work with somebody. I guess im just confused as to what that means?  Like using ffict  address for my bitinstant purchase? or how does that work?

The way I understood malevolent's proposal, there would be a person B who would get complete control of Lurk's money (bitcoin private keys, banks accounts - everything). B would act as a money manager, i.e. all Lurk's expenses would have to be approved by B.

In the most harshly regulated case, this would mean that Lurk would have to submit receipts to B for daily expenses and B would use the rest of Lurk's income to pay back the debt.

That is your decision, of course, and I hope you will succeed. Once again, I can only applaud your determination.
48  Economy / Lending / Re: [Loan] Help me save money on: November 28, 2012, 10:42:25 PM
At least get the loan denominated in USD.

Maybe you could ask someone to manage the money for you just in case you don't do anything stupid again?

I think this might be a piece of advice worth considering. I am sure somebody would come forth and do it for free. In case nobody does, I can try to help: I am good with numbers, not so much with law.

Very interesting!

I read through the whitepaper quickly and thus this probably is a silly question, but is it not easy to associate a certain public key, which acts as a sender's address if I understand correctly, with a certain IP by listening to broadcasted messages long enough?

Congratulations, me!
51  Economy / Lending / Re: [EDU] How to spot a scammer (Read this before lending your coins!) on: November 19, 2012, 07:27:11 AM

This loan was paid back in full and on time.
52  Economy / Lending / Re: 5BTC for one week at 10% [funded by ffcitatos] on: November 19, 2012, 07:25:33 AM
Loan repaid on time and in full. Thank you!

I am sorry guys, but I still don't understand how this works. Ignoring the pyramid part, I put x btc in and I get 1.1x btc back after some amount of time that remains unknown and unpredictable to me, is that right?
54  Economy / Economics / Re: What if gold is produced in lab? on: November 13, 2012, 02:43:02 PM
By using Low Energy Nuclear Reactions (LENR), Nickel transmutes into copper producing large amounts of heat. Although the physics behind this phenomena is not yet understood completely there is a lot of information on the web.
<...>
What do you think?
I think that Physics behind nuclear reactions is relatively well understood - producing gold in that way is not financially viable (and by that I mean millions of times more expensive than mining it from the ground).

I did not check the links, but presumably you are talking about cold fusion. In that case, it is complete crackpottery, meaning that it will never work, as that would break fundamental laws of Physics.

PSST.  If you're trying to build rep, don't say you're doing a transaction just to build rep.

Dudes, what else do you suggest? Time machine? I think heart_mons is being honest here and he should be rewarded for that, not made fun of.
56  Economy / Lending / Re: 5BTC for one week at 10% [funded by ffcitatos] on: November 11, 2012, 08:22:41 PM

57  Economy / Lending / Re: 5BTC for one week at 10% [funded by ffcitatos] on: November 11, 2012, 08:10:18 PM
ffcitatos has been kind enough to extend an offer to me of 5BTC for one week at 10% interest.  Even though I don't especially need the loan since I'll have extra cash tomorrow I decided it would be a good way to build up a positive reputation for the community I hope to participate in for the long haul.    I am in the process of complying to his terms for identification and adding this thread is  part of the requirements.

He will be lending 5BTC
I will repay with 10% interest
I will repay on or before 11/18/12

He can send coins to this address: 1JdHapCmcJqSTXbcRUfCohPPUkuq72kCDH

Thanks ffcitatos!

I confirm that the info is correct. The address to put the coins back when the loan ends is 12c1riDgoLk57hy5NcFx7MtnhfVADM5G3N . Thanks, heart_mons !
58  Economy / Lending / Re: Lend me 10BTC to repay on 11/12/2012 as 12BTC on: November 10, 2012, 08:33:00 AM
All right, so the trust that you offer us comes from three sources: 1) have been a member here for almost a month, 2) completed a single trade with the webmaster of bitcointrading.com, and 3) are willing to identify yourself (I assume a scan of an ID or something).

Could you specify more precisely, why do you need this loan, i.e. what are the coins going to be used for?
59  Economy / Lending / Re: [Loan] 20 btc personal loan[FILLED] on: November 09, 2012, 12:23:56 PM
I am pleasantly surprised, thanks a lot!
60  Economy / Lending / Re: [Loan] 20 btc personal loan on: November 07, 2012, 10:25:33 PM
loan received from  ffcitatos   agreed to 20btc for 1 month  at 1%
Confirmed! I hope to see more high-trust low-interest loans in the bitcoin economy.
