1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Motherboard / GPU issue on: October 06, 2018, 11:46:36 PM
I am a new ethereum miner trying to finally get my first mining rig up and running. Currently, I have an MSI Z270-A pro motherboard with Radeon RX580 Gaming 8GB GPUs. I cannot get the motherboard to detect a GPU even when I connect it directly to the motherboard. The latest motherboard version is from Jan/1/2018. Does anyone know of what ways I can troubleshoot this problem? I tried connecting two different GPUs to the motherboard and neither was recognized. I'm also unable to connect my monitor to my GPU to check it directly since I don't have a DVI-D. Any help is appreciated.

As people said sim cards are cheap and you could easily buy yourself one for these needs. If you don't have such opportunity, for example, you need an id for this, I can send you one for free.

Hi, thanks for your response in my forum regarding telegram. You mentioned being able to send me an id for free? I would appreciate that greatly. I'm unfamiliar with the process right now but I'd like to get all of my alt accounts going so I don't have any restrictions when signing up for airdrops. Thanks again for your help
PM me if needed.

Hey Gaselemeg, thanks again but I believe you have private messaging disabled for newbies. I'll try to PM you again later if you get a chance to disable it.

If you don't want to sign up with airdrop that require telegram try to find an airdrop that only require to sign up with email or you can look in twitter airdrop all you need is to retweet, follow & comment your eth add but most of them are worthless.

Believe it or not, but you even need a mobile phone number to sign onto twitter as well. It seems that most major companies are doing everything they can to protect from spam accounts.

I will advise you setting up a google voice note

That would be great if you have a way that can remedy this, especially if the method is free.

I just recently tried using an android emulator and installing telegram onto it, but once again it wouldn't allow me to register since the emulator doesn't emulate the sim card and no mobile number is actually present.

You can set up a google voice number and use that to sign up instead if you're worried about it

I tried setting one up with google voice, but somehow the system may have recognized that it wasn't a true mobile number and denied me. @mjglqw thanks the advice, I may have to go the sim card method it seems.

I've been looking into join airdrops recently and it seems that many of the require telegram. I'd like to know if anyone has found workarounds for how to bypass handing over your telephone number in order to make an account on telegram. This is annoying since so many airdrops seems to require it.

Thanks @mjglqw and @biggNY for the great resources. Looks like I found my reading for the next week or so. It seems that cryptocurrency trends can be analyzed in the same way as any other financial chart. Does anyone know if there are any important trends that are specific to cryptocurrency that begginers should heed?

Does anyone have any useful resources that can help with learning graphical analysis of crypto price trends for trading in Binance? I found a few resources on Bollinger curves, as well as certain trend patterns, but nothing was really explained in a way that was understandable. Any resources would be greatly appreciated.

10  Other / Beginners & Help / Cryptomining Hardware Dangers on: August 20, 2018, 07:50:22 PM
I've been doing a bit of research and wanted to see what cryptomining hardware dangers you guys have stumbled upon in your experience / research. I'll start with a few I've discovered:

  • Using SATA cables to connect risers and GPUs
  • Buying a CPU that has a chipset incompatible with your motherboard
  • Buying a power supply without enough wattage for your devices
  • Buying RAM cards for a laptop instead of a desktop setup
  • Before flashing GPU BIOS, save original copies of BIOS and be careful

1. This first point is pretty important and can be catastrophic to your setup if things go wrong. From what I've read, Sata cables can melt or catch fire if used to power risers and GPUs this way. I've found a couple of video tutorials on rig setups that use this improper configuration. It's said that Molex connections are a better option but still improper. PCIe connectors are considered the best option according to my resources.

2. Make sure that you CPU and motherboard are compatible. For example, if the motherboard is LGA 1151, then the CPU should be as well.

3. This is also important, since a PSU (power supply unit) without the correct wattage can cause a lower hashrate as well as hardware problems with your system. From the sources I've read, it also seems to be important to find a PSU with a Gold or Platinum rating for optimal performance.

4. This one is an silly mistake that can be easily avoided. Just make sure the RAM is intended for desktops and not a laptop. RAM isn't particulary important for mining so most resources recommend getting 4GB or RAM and the DDR type (DDR3 or DDR4) that fits your motherboard. I've seen the 2400 series recommended several times.

5. Flashing the BIOS can be done on the AMD GPUs to increase hashpower on each GPU. Be careful to read on this subject well before starting and work on one GPU at a time. Improperly flashing the BIOS with new firmware can damage the GPU.

What other hardware dangers have you guys read about / experienced?

A few things to add to this are:

- Understanding past trends and speculation rises in Crypto prices. (Mining profitability always appears underwhelming at face value, so understanding a little of what the profitability will have actually been by taking into account prices in 3 months, 6 months, 1 year and beyond)

- Researching and keeping up to date on the latest trends and projects. Knowing which projects have large movements and mining accordingly can produce much higher profits than sticking with 1 currency.

Feel free to PM me if you need assistance with anything!

Thanks for the comments on my thread. Would you happen to have any "holy grail" resources for understanding crypto trends and profitability as you discussed in your post? I know of coinmarketcap, but I know next to nothing about analyzing fluctuations in crypto price. I've also found various profitability calculators online, but I'd still like to know more, especially how to calculate profitability after joining a mining pools and the different types pooling structures. Thanks a lot.

12  Other / Beginners & Help / Crypto Mining Beginners Advice on: August 20, 2018, 04:12:34 AM
I'm new to this forum and seriously researching mining cryptocurrency. I'd like to start my first post as a way for people to post a few helpful tips that beginners can see which may help get us started with mining cryptocurrency specifically. I'm sure this has been done many times, but here's another for August 2018. I'll start by posting a few helpful things:

  • You will need a crypto wallet for storing currency
  • Learn about hash rate, and ROI(return on investment) of your mining rig
  • Learn about the necessary hardware to build a mining rig (number of graphics cards / power supply / motherboard / RAM / storage / etc.)
  • Research reputable mining pools in order to make mining consistently profitable

I'd like to see what other tips people have. I am currently in the research phase and have yet to even buy any hardware for crypto mining. Right now I'm currently researching what indicates a good altcoin to mine.
