21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][AUR][MANDATORY UPDATE] Auroracoin - a cryptocurrency for Iceland on: March 22, 2014, 02:18:20 AM

don't understand, maybe someone can fill me in?

dev stored all the coins at different addresses? But are those addresses all in the same wallet?

Or are you using a different wallet for each individual address to store the coins?

thanks

There are 21 addresses, each containing 500,000 coins. I split it into 21 addresses so I don't need to load all the coins at once into a wallet. As the airdrop progresses I will load coins from these addresses to a hot wallet. I will list all transactions and all unspent outputs of said hot wallet publicly.

It will not be sufficient to know the ID number to claim. If that were the case, anyone would be able to claim all the coins at once. There will be authentication methods for the ID number, as I have said before. I will explain this in detail in interviews, before or concurrent with the commencement of the Airdrop.

The only ones setting the price of the coin at this moment, and a week ago, are speculators.

The real experiment has not even begun.
24  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][AUR][MANDATORY UPDATE] Auroracoin - a cryptocurrency for Iceland on: March 17, 2014, 01:46:33 PM
I kind of think somewhere around $1 exchange value at airdrop would be optimal, no reason or rush to dump, but still enough value to make it worthwhile to claim them... smooth distribution and (hopefully) transition.

This is exactly what I had planned. The coins must be worth enough for people to claim them, but not worth a small fortune. The speculative value of $1 billion was way too high, as I pointed out at the time. The price would have plummeted immediately after the Airdrop.

  • Rules on block timestamps altered

Is this a fix for the alleged kgw security flaw?

Yes.

Be sure to get your pools updated.

March 17th: A hard fork has been implemented.

  • Rules on block timestamps altered
  • Forks at block 5400
  • Gravity well added
  • Block time halved, reward halved, halving time doubled

Update ASAP to v. 1.2.0.0

There will be intense volatility in the price, until the coin becomes useful for other things than speculation. I invite those that are interested in other aspects than price, to join us at http://forum.auroracoin.org

It is right to raise concerns about what happens to the price when the coins start circulating. Who knows what will happen.

I do however think you are overestimating the pace at which this will happen. Hopefully the infrastructure needed for adoption in Iceland will have time to form and mature in the mean time.

Welcome. Hope you got some good news and a kgw update in the pocket at block 4200

The hard fork is at block 5400. It is not feasible to change this now, on such short notice. The will fork happen in about 8-10 days I suspect.

Where's Balduro?

Here.

its unlikely able to distribute the coins to 330,000 people all that fast,

so all this talk about the price dropping alot is a load of crap.

It won't happen, because the coins won't go out to that many people all at once.

Think about it.

Dude wants to verify every person, prior to sending them some coins,

and VERIFICATION TAKES TIME, so it ain't going to happen all that fast.

330,000 is a big number

Price may go up, because of various factors that we are not fully aware of as yet.(if 1% of those people like the coin, they may start to buy/sell it as a hobby, and that would be 3,300 people whose favorite coin is auroracoin.
But if 10% of the people do that, then that is 33,000)

33,000 people who have a hobby of buying auroracoin. That would do lots for the coin. And then there is the rest of the crypto community.

But apparently the creator of this coin wants 330,000 people who use it regularly for buying/selling as if to replace the current government issued currency.
Well, need I say more? 330,000 isn't that as big or bigger than bitcoin if that happens? I don't know how many people are regular bitcoin enthusiasts though

The Airdrop is probably going to happen at a much slower pace than people have been imagining in this thread.

Don't use this pool, it's a scam

http://aur.pool-a.net  -

They removed the manual cash out feature.  before they removed it the minimum was 0.1 AUR

I reported this to them saying it was excessive, the response was to remove manual cash outs

Total and utter scam ....  if the owners of that pool want to come on and discredit that then please feel free.

Put the manual cash out back and make it a sensible fee such as 0.005 like Cryptsy withdrawl fee  ...  sheer greed!

People like this discredit the whole community.......  idiots!!

this pool was first promoted by dev in this post https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=446062.msg4920391#msg4920391
the greatest scam of all cryptocurrency history starts here

He also corrected it and stated not to trust them after a day or so!

he didn't edit his first message either so lots of miners register at this pool even now

Sorry, but where do you see it on the first page then???

I probably posted something about this pool, since it was the first pool. The first mention of it was here: https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/4223-auroracoin-aur-information/?p=38277

I removed it from the opening post because of repeated messages from people that were getting locked out of their accounts.

Sorry if it's already been asked. I forgot to update and I did a transaction with old wallet, did I lose something? Is it safe to move coins from old wallet?

Perfectly safe to use until block 5400, 8-9 days from now.

Every Icelander knows you can authenticate against the national ID (kennitala) quite easily if you have authentication gateways for that. I am working on a few alternatives, some of which may be used concurrently. If you can find me an Icelander that doubts this, I would be surprised.

How exactly will your airdrop work ? I think people are literally expecting you airdrop the paper wallets to people

Are you going to wait for them to come to you or will you be mailing to each household ?

If it's waiting for them to come to you, how will you ensure maximum exposure so as many people know as possible ?

People will authenticate themselves through the internet, and direct the server as to where to send the coins.

In theory, I could send every Icelander Auroracoins (priv key) to a special section in their internet banking account. This is however a prohibitively expensive option.

Non natives can be forgiven for not knowing the ins and outs of the Icelandic ID system, but I can't explain this over and over again. Read my previous posts.

So they have to come to you in order to receive their coins ?

Again I ask how are you ensuring maximum exposure so they know to come to get their coins ?

You don't understand the hype you say ? The hype is based on you physically sitting in a cargo plane, dropping paper wallets over the Icelandic towns, they have hyped based on their imagination of what an airdrop actually is and expectation that this will be the next icelandic currency. When this doesn't happen and IF it doesn't take to the Icelandic people like everyone thinks the coin will crash incredibly fast and incredibly hard, I think this is something you should warn people of because otherwise there will be alot of anger directed at you for misleading those invested in AUR even if you did not intend to mislead them. You have been warned, so do not be surprised if/when this happens

I don't believe anyone really expects me to drop the coins from a cargo plane. I think people are literate and can read the text on the subject on auroracoin.org.

So , you're working on how to distribute the coin , after you have launched the coin....and you gave yourself a few months to make the "air drop" ..why?
Why didn't you start with the delivery and then with the other...not important things?

It would have been far better as people would have kept the coins since they couldn't trade them on any exchange and actually start thinking about how to use them , not rush to cash in the moment they got them.

The coins had to have some price in order for people to claim them. That is the reason for the run-up time. I did not expect the coin to skyrocket like this.

Also, I want to commend LTEX for his work. This would be impossible without people like him.

Hi balduro, if I was you I couldn't sleep at nights worrying I'd forget the passwords for the premine or virus eating the wallets. Tongue

You must've not expected this amount of attention when you started this project, right?

I thought the coin might be 1/10 or 1/20 of what it is now. That would be a great success. I am a bit scared of the prices now. If the coin starts too high for the Airdrop, and starts dropping when people are beginning to use them, that is not good for adoption. Then again, I have no idea where this going.

Will some people please review the code and make sure the upcoming hard fork to KGW and the other adjustments were done correctly?

This coin is too valuable at this point to not make double, triple, and quadruple sure before going live with any changes.
