441  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Be on the lookout for this scam.. Just got it in my email on: January 07, 2014, 02:18:41 PM
I got it too, but while Thunderbird shows the small attachment icon, when I open the email there is no attachment.
I also opened it in my webmail and again - attachment icon present, but no attachment.

I assume the only way to get infected is by opening the attachment, right?
Just loading the email is harmless.

Also this must be from the MTGox leak as the email I use here is different and unique - I only use it for forum registrations.

So are the Neptune's ever going to make ROI? I'm thinking about pre-ordering a batch 2/3 unit. (or whatever you want to call what is on their website currently)

Will I be able to plug one of these into my "normal" house? Will there be multiple PSU's?

So is the pool speed really 171 Gh/s?
Yet https://blockchain.info/pools shows it as 1%
You didn't read what I posted just 7 minutes ago, right ?

Nothing in relation to DeepBit actual speed.

But there is an acknowledgement of the problem and that he is working on it.  Which is probably being slowed with questions like, is the pools speed really that low right now? while there are connectivity problems.

My question had nothing to do with the guy who wanted to stop a transaction.
It was just a general question.

Even without connectivity problems the 1TH/s speed is well below what https://blockchain.info/pools shows.

Your question was answered before you asked it.

We are experiencing connectivity problems for about 3 hours now.
Working on this problem.

My question was about the discrepancy between what https://blockchain.info/pools and what Deepbit shows with or without connectivity problems.
1% of the total network is more than 100TH/s which is much greater than what is displayed on DeepBit with or without connectivity problems.

So DeepBit having connectivity problems has nothing to do with my question.
Did you get it now?

Trying to have a conversation with you is allot like trying to nail jello to the wall.
I don't think I can make my question any clearer, so if you don't know the answer that's ok Wink

No, I wish to stand outside the restaurant saying that the restaurant and the food are good in general, but can be improved.
What is so bad with adding luck per user selectable length of time to the already good selection of statistics?
How is that against the interest of pool users?
Wouldn't you like it if you could see what the luck was for the past 7 days for example?

I've said this before, but I'll repeat myself.  Why does it matter?  Luck is luck.  Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad.  You have no control over it.  If you're considering going to a pool because it has "good luck", make sure you throw salt over your shoulder first.

M

If it doesn't matter then why every single major pool including BTCGuild display luck?
You are making a point that luck does not matter, yet the reality shows it does: people use it to feel good about their choices, regardless of being completely random.

GHash.io doesn't have and luck stats.

Ghash.io have a total proofs of work per block data, from where a 6 years old could easily check luck.

Who monitors the monitor? Smiley
Realistically a pool admin can always do shady things behind the curtains, so that is why it is important to have transparency in order to sustain trust in its user base by giving them the power to check/verify.
When an admin refuses to publish specific data, that doesn't speak very well for the transparency of his service.
There is a saying that goes: if you want something you will find a way, if you don't then you will find an excuse.
450  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [440 TH] BitMinter.com [1% PPLNS,Pays TxFees + MergedMining,Stratum,GBT,vardiff] on: January 06, 2014, 03:24:55 AM
to those that moved to cex.io .

 myself included.

Read the new rules that take place in feb and come back here to the doctor.

Pretty simple cex.io got a huge edge by allowing trading without asking for id's  and frankly it is why I used them as trading the LTC I earned and the NMC for free was nice.

But  on feb 4th they will comply with law and you will have to give them an id.  A real copy of your passport, your drivers licenses  plus proof of address. Since I did this with vicurex
I do not want to do it with cex.io

So I am back for good. I am pointing 122 gh. here  all in sticks..  ANTminer sticks are absolutely amazing.  Right now the doctor has not done the software for them and you need to do the custom cgminer build from antminer on github…  I am running 36 sticks on a 49 port hub hashing just under 72 gh.. I did a software overclock to  2gh a stick.   they do not pull much power.  I am really happy with them…  These are the next best thing.  The lowest price on ebay   for 1 is about 93 for a pair about 180 and someone is selling 5 for 429 .

They will drop in price and when you get one to compare to the old asic miner stick  you will see that most likely these are the new asic miner stick ( with a new name AntMiner).

My guess is Aisc miner backed these and in the next 2-3 months we will see 100,000 plus get sold.

Oh I am removing the link in my signature to cex.io asap.  Link has been removed and replaced with a simple truth about myself.

How does this affect miners mining with their own equipment?
451  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [440 TH] BitMinter.com [1% PPLNS,Pays TxFees + MergedMining,Stratum,GBT,vardiff] on: January 06, 2014, 03:23:55 AM
I think it might be wise drharibo to post what you actually updated in your latest software update mentioned in post #5475. Now I know the answer is right above it. But as our bad luck has coincided with that, I think that is where people are getting the silly idea you changed how we mine or something.

lol, this is too funny...nobodys holding a gun to your head to mine here.  Dont you think its odd that nobody out of the top 50 is complaining?  When i started mining here, 7 days to find a block was the norm.

I was in the top 15, mining for the last 2 months but the latest series of DDOS and the data centre incident made me switch to Ghash.io
It was a good run, mined around 80BTC.

GHash IO ?

Bankers and rich guys, centralized banking to bitcoin ? That what you want ?
Or do not care, just want BTC.

Looking at the graphs on blockchain.info, ghash.io has an estimated 37% of the hashing power for the past 24 hours. They have been growing rapidly, and were at less than 25% a month ago. If they continue to grow at this rate, it's highly possible they could control 51% of the network.

DeepBit used to have 51% of the network, but why abuse a system that brings you steady income?
If you perform a 51% attack you would only kill the trust in the network and so whatever you managed to steal will be worth much less.
And I doubt that this will happen, because people (including me) will move to another pool if they ever approach 50%

OK my point to you is, we will miss your help here. Thats personal, the way it should be.

""I spoke with eleuthria and the local math wizard organofcorti and they both confirmed there is no easy way to precisely confirm the pool luck, which is a deal braker for me.""

PS you worry alot about things you have absolutly no control over Smiley It is the nature of that beast "LUCK"

Well, I am not gonna lie. I am not a big fan of fees and I am even surprised at myself for how long I stayed at Bitminter. Probably I would have stayed even longer if it was rock solid, but there were quite a few downtimes recently, so I decided to check the competition.
With the always increasing difficulty I think DrHaribo should probably find new ways to keep miners, because soon the variance will be so big that a lot more people will leave.
Overall I have positive impression from the pool and its admin, who is always willing to help Smiley
452  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Hacking The KNC Firmware: Overclocking on: January 06, 2014, 03:19:22 AM
My best result is with a Jupiter running at 641GH/s with 0.58% HW.
Using 211.
Highest temps are the 2 chips at the back: around 70 during the day.

I can probably push it more.
453  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [2900 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+Orphan+NMC, Stratum, Private Servers on: January 06, 2014, 02:45:47 AM
I for one would not care what the luck was within a certain time period because it has absolutely no indication of future luck.

This.

Past results do not indicate future performance.

You hear this time after time elsewhere, yet people still do not understand.

Yet every pool has a luck index, because wait for it... it does not matter  Cool

Btw does anyone know why the total pool hashrate on the website doesn't reflect the Blockchain diagram?

https://blockchain.info/pools

Ghash.io and BTCGuild are shown with the same hashing speed, yet the former is above 4PH/s and the latter below 3PH/s.

I didn't take it as a homophobic comment.  I took it as a "When you grow hair in funny places, you'll have an interest in the opposite sex" sort of comment.

This may interest some people, looks decent for mining in some of the designs with the lion battery. http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/solar-liberator  looks like time is short for the discount, but they ain't expensive without it.

Haven't you had enough preorders yet? Lol

Yup. I didn't say it interested me did I ? Wink The ease of it does, the pre-order bit...not one jot unless there's a massive bonus. Bit late for that though.

Handy size for mining rigs though, and they'll probably get cheaper and more useful in the future.

As a matter of interest, I haven't heard dick from KNC for months as in newsletters, they only bother to try and sell me something,  but finding this on here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=392166.0 and knowing they were made aware of it I was wondering if  they ever thought to mention this to customers, or was it just me that didn't get ?

The guy who found the security problem seems to not have much from KNC by means of a reply. I'm assuming you all know about this, if not..well it's worth a read. Better safe than sorry Smiley
Dude, it's only been 19 days since KNC's last news release...   months?
The post you cited has been there 5 days,
and we were told the crew would be back into full swing sometime on the 6th & 7th...  (tomorrow)
At least give the code boys a chance to look at it before you go off the deep end...lol

...and it's not KNC code that leaves the door open...   it's Cgminer.
any machine running cgminer right now can be hacked.
I hope Ckilovas was notified...  just PM'd it...

PS....  using BFG Miner should avoid any hack for now folks

But seriously trimmers... thanks for the "Heads up"     A+ man!

Its not KNC code but the default configuration leaves the cgminer remote api accessible worldwide which is how KNC configured it which makes that part of the exploit KNC's fault. The owner of the miner shares part of this responsibility too and never should have placed the miner directly on the internet.

What's the worst that can happen?
Some dude will mine with your equipment for a few hours, maybe a day?
460  Economy / Exchanges / Re: ***CEX.IO Cloud mining official page*** on: January 05, 2014, 08:50:32 PM
i was looking my account an saw this
Quote
C A U T I O N:
If you lose access to your smartphone, or uninstall the app - you will not be able to login to your CEX.IO account.
BE SURE TO BACK UP YOUR 2FA CODE IN CASE YOU LOSE ACCESS TO YOUR SMARTPHONE OR THE APP.

How do i make a 2FA backup? no one knows when i could lose my iphone and that would be enought of bad luck.. :/

You can also generate back up 2FA codes from your Google account I believe.

Google Account has nothing to do with CEX.io, so you believe wrong.

You're missing the point. My 2FA program or app is Authy. Authy attaches each 2FA to an account, one of the options is my google account. I can backup my Authy App and it will restore when I get my new phone after I verify who I am. The one catch is that I think you have to have the same phone number(i could be wrong). ie after I bought my new phone I still had the same phone number so I just restored per the Authy apps directions. There may be other apps for 2FA

That is different from "You can also generate back up 2FA codes from your Google account I believe."
The codes generated from your Google account are only valid for your Google account and other and Google associated services, that are protected by 2FA.

You are correct. The time based rotating response 2FA apps that are available (including the Google Auth app) cannot ever work with backup codes from your Google account. Those codes only work with Google services or external sites that use Google's backend auth service (Bitminter is one of these). Cex.io uses the time based app so you cannot use backup codes from anywhere. If you lose your device and you don't have the private key saved somewhere to allow you to setup the app again on a new device then you are screwed. To backup the private key just write it down or save it in your favorite password app. Another option is to screen shot the QR code or the key while it is still on your screen when you setup 2FA on the website and then save that somewhere but make sure it is saved securely!

Listen to that man. He knows what he is talking  Wink
