5  Economy / Economics / WHEN BANK NOTES ARE NOT LEGAL TENDERS:AN ARGUMENT FOR BITCOINS-UK case-study on: January 31, 2019, 11:15:38 AM
Common belief is that ‘legal tender’ means ‘you are required to use this currency’, and by this,it gains value.
The above is strictly not true, the Anglo-Saxon definition is quite different and narrower, it means that a debtor cannot reject payment of an existing loan in the legal tender of a nation. In other words, it does not necessarily require its use for a prospective transaction or as a unit of account.
Thus, any official medium of payment recognized by law that can be used to extinguish a public or private debt is a legal tender.
The UK case-study
  • The bank of England is the only bank authorized bank to issue bank notes in England and Wales and its notes are legal tenders in both
  • In Scotland and Northern Ireland,Bank notes are issued by seven retail banks, provided there retail banks keep equivalent assets with the bank of England
  • Neither the bank notes of England nor those issued by the private retail banks in Scotland and Northern Ireland are legal tenders in Scotland or Northern Ireland. There are no bank notes that are legal tenders in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
It is therefore by Common Convention that bank notes are used as a means of settling financial transactions in Scotland and Northern Ireland (since the notes are not legal tenders).
How does this relate to bitcoin as a currency?
It does emphasize the point that all currencies are accepted largely as a matter of convention-not necessarily by law.If everyone accepts bitcoin as a currency,it makes little difference if its legal status is defined or not.
The converse is also true, that a legal status does not necessarily make a currency effective, take Venezuela dollar as an example, you will not want to make your transactions in it,despite it being a legal tender in Venezuela.
What are your thoughts on whether the government declares bitcoin as a legal tender or not.

p.s: I do not argue that declaring bitcoin as a legal tender isn't a good thing.

6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think Bitcoin matured as a currency? on: January 27, 2019, 08:19:20 AM
I would say bitcoin maturity as a currency not so much because of the price correction and somewhat stability now but because of there are better infrastructure on ground now that makes it easier to be deployed as a means of payment. For example, there are more  Lightning networks nodes-a second-layer protocol on the bitcoin blockchain that enables faster transactions and therefore make near instantaneous payments possible , There is more merchants who accept bitcoins than there was a year ago.
7  Other / Meta / Re: Why was this post deleted? on: October 03, 2018, 10:38:24 PM
Someone defined "dirt" as matter in the wrong the wrong place. Same may be true for your post-an excellent post or reply in a wrong thread, or could have been very similar to what someone else already said. In any case, only the moderator would have the best reason for deleting such a  post. Looks well written though
8  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: a surefire way to reduce shit posts on: October 03, 2018, 10:23:49 PM
It is true that wearing a signature for a project may give incentive for some forum users to just post shitty stuff, but there are also some nice part of signatures we should never ignore, that they are a good way to learn about some projects that could be of interest. I have had the fortune learning about some really nice project from signatures worne by members. The forum is a good place to learn and I think the signature are also a source of good information
9  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie mining question on: September 30, 2018, 12:51:38 AM
Make no mention of CPU/GPU miners when bitcoin mining is concerned.ASIC miners are your sure bet for bitcoin mining.Even at that, you will still need to consider your electricity cost and the type type of ASIC miners. Antminer S7 and S9 (4.7 and 14TH/s respectively) seem to be the best among the best at the moment, they too may soon be obsolete when the next generation miner using the  7nm chips are introduced to the market.
You may find this useful of you intend to invest
in mining hardware.

10  Other / Meta / Re: Blaming merit source by newbie doesn't make sense. on: September 27, 2018, 01:33:53 PM
It may be helpful if there is a way bounty manager could be made to adjust their bounty rules to reflect a more decent forum, Asking a minimum of 15-25 post per week will invariably encourage spam. Imagine 100 participants, that will mean 1500-2500 for just a single project. Do that for just 100 ICOs, it gives you 150k-250K/week. There is no way we wont have spams with such rules.
5-7 post per week sounds reasonable to me.It's ok to just read what other persons are saying sometimes and respond only when you need to say something different
11  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Futures on: September 27, 2018, 01:08:47 PM
SEC is legally not required to make any verdict on the bitcoins  ETFs yet, they moved the date forward till 29th Dec. The odds of its being approved remains 5-10 percent chance within the year. https://www.coindesk.com/vaneck-and-solidx-unfazed-by-the-secs-latest-bitcoin-etf-delay/.
I personally do not think we will get any verdict this year. A rejection is not a death blow to the price of bitcoin as the adoption is gradually on the increase. For now, maybe we should focus on the Bakkt futures back by physical bitcoins which is geared to kick-off in November. JP Morgan is planning something similar.
12  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase's New Listing Policy on: September 27, 2018, 12:33:29 PM
All exchange do that, I am not sure you added the right links, maybe you check it again and adjust accordingly
They certainly do want to acquire more customers as the space is getting a bit more competitive
13  Other / Archival / Re: ICO without whitepaper on: August 30, 2018, 12:36:41 AM
If there are no white paper who will we know what the project is all about,?Your white paper is your blueprint and also a summary for investors to have a good idea of what they are investing in and what to expect as the project unfolds.
