Maybe with one of those fancy transaction scripts I keep hearing about.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCE] RuCoin - Russian alternate cryptocurrency - exchange is up already! on: October 16, 2011, 09:09:52 PM
There are already buy orders at 0.1 BTC per RUC and the chain hasn't even started yet. The exchange claims to be partners with the chain. Maybe it's the same people. Would be easy to insert fake buy and sell orders to promote the chain. "Oh look, people are buying this stuff like crazy! I should start mining it or buy them with all my BTC!"
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Hash rates on: October 16, 2011, 08:14:54 PM
any one have a link to what the hashrate is for the various alt chains?  maybe with some graphs?  Just curious, b/c the litecoin hash rate is looking strong considering its youth.  I wonder how it compares to tenebrix faribrix or whatever they're called.

Here you go: http://allchains.info/
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin disadvantages for non-technician users on: October 16, 2011, 02:06:52 PM
IMHO Bitcoin will most likely always stay an underground currency. That doesn't have to be a bad thing at all. It just means that the early adopters can't sell their BTC for $50 a piece anytime soon.

The most promising uses for Bitcoin as I see it are focused on the anonymous transactions. Why would I buy something with BTC if it gets delivered to my real name and address? That's defeating the point of it.

That's being said I don't see a problem with Bitcoin being unreachable for non-technician users.

How many users does you board have? I like to have alternatives to this forum but there doesn't seem to be much activity going on right know.
I've bookmarked it though.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New Ixcoin fork -> I0coin on: August 16, 2011, 08:06:39 PM
I still can't connect.
Tried both io.btcguild.com and i0.btcguild.com

btcguild needs to compile the updated software and load it before they can start. So it's probably not going to work for at least a good half an hour depending on how fast the compiling server is and how long it takes to compile the bitcoin code.

They'd also need to read through the code before compiling. Could be anything in there. Maybe something targeting their bitcoins.

There's a lot of free space on the right side but the thread titles are shortened anyway.
Is there a way to fix this so I can see the whole title without having to move over every entry?
I'm using Chrome with a resolution of 1920x1080.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Ixcoin - a new Bitcoin fork on: August 11, 2011, 07:39:01 PM
Yeah i saw someone buy 150,000 ixcoins at 0.0015 btc each. Wow. Hopefully he can cash out above 0.0015 btc

It's kind of a zero-sum situation. If someone wants to take the risk and buys my 4 hours worth of ixcoin mining for the price of 1132 hours of bitcoin mining then I'm glad there is an exchange to make the deal.
Kind of lucky that I saw the thread in the first hours. Cheesy

Okay your posting says to use port 8337 but your wiki says use port 8338. Which is it?

Also what is the name of the config file? ixcoin.conf? bitcoin.conf?

Your tutorials dont have proper documentation for anyone to start mining.

How do you expect people to help the project if you don't even have basic documentation?

I'm pretty sure 8337 is for the p2p network and 8338 is for RPC to connect the miner with the daemon.
Also ixcoin.conf.

Edit: Sorry for apparent double posting. There was a post between my 2 responses that has been deleted already.

What would my ixcoin.conf file look like? Post an example please.

rpcuser=youruser
rpcpassword=yourpassword
server=1

and if you want increase your connection limit.
maxconnections=60
I'm just guessing that'd be a good idea in order to decrease rejects because you're more up 2 date with the blockchain.

How many blocks have been solved?? It keeps downloading and downloading to no end.
At the current rate you won't see it "ending" the download. 7418 at the time of writing. They are generated really fast until the difficulty change.

If I am using guiminer would I put the port as 8337 into the mining settings?

What miner are u using?

I'm using DiabloMiner. 8338 is the RPC port for mining clients.

just out of curiosity i pointed my cpu (8mhps) at ixcoin
its been running for about 30 mins now and no block found...whats wrong here?

I'd say it's too slow for single mining (and there are no pools yet for this fork...)
I'm currently mining with 210MH/s and about 50% are getting rejected. It doesn't matter if the difficulty is very low if a new block is found every second and your miner has to start over.

Definitely interesting to see the early block generation in action. I only did pool mining before. But I doubt anyone will use ixcoin. There will be a lot of uses for more forks of bitcoin but right now the first thought is a scam. The community is oversensitive to stuff like that at the moment.

Post Sauce of I'm considering this a dropper Cheesy

He hasn't posted the binaries either. So I guess we wait for him to provide both as he promised. Then we will analyze it.

A screenshot of the GUI isn't enough to say if it's legit or not.

14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What to use for secure bitcoin client machine/wallet (non-miner)?? on: August 09, 2011, 07:09:51 PM
If you only need the client once in a while you could run a node on your pc to keep up with the blockchain. Then when you actually need to make a transaction you could copy the blockchain to another machine (e.g. a notebook you only boot for bitcoin) and manage your wallet that way.

Remember: You don't need the client to receive BTC and you don't need it either to check for your balance. You could bookmark your addresses on blockexplorer in your browser for example.
15  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [Proposal] - Open source music sharing platform inspired by Bitcoin on: August 07, 2011, 03:04:26 PM
With bitcoin the proof of work is done by hashing algorithms. If I understood your concept correctly the proof of work would be done via network transmissions? That'd be trivial to cheat. Just connect 2 nodes with a direct line and transfer junk with 10+ gbit/s. If that even matters. I mean... how to check for that anyway? Maybe I missed your point.
16  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Android wallet balance viewer on: August 06, 2011, 11:33:49 AM
I've got a problem with the app. In detail:
I exported the public keys and imported them via sdcard into the app. Next I pressed update. I think I saw the correct balance for a second. After that - force close.
Now it's instantly force closing every time I try to open the app.

I'm using Android 2.1. Also I changed the currency to EUR after the first start (and before loading the keys).
You can PM me if you need any additional details.

Thanks for your post!  Can you send the bug report to Google if it gives you the option? - then I get the stack trace then and it should tell me exactly what the problem is.  I'm going to be relasing a new version on Sunday so I'll try and get the fix in before then.  I know of some issues related to invalid Date Formats - so you could try deleting the app configuration (settings->applications->manage applications->wallet balance->Clear Data) and see if that makes a difference?

Will

After clearing the data the app can be started again. But the wallet is gone and the key file has to be imported again. After the update the app fcs again.
I've send the bug report.

Thanks - I got the bug report - it seems to be the same issue I saw on the morning of 3 Aug (was that you?) which is related to something to do with date parsing... I think the issue might be the date format you are using - might I ask which language your phone is set to...?  I'll make some fixes to the app this weekend and it should solve the issue anyway.  Until then please accept my apologies for the problems and thanks for submitting the bug report.

Will

I tried the app for the first time today. My phone language is German and my timezone MESZ (which is UTC+2). I looked into the wallet data file in the app directory with Root explorer and found the date format that is saved. Sat Aug 06 13:22:09 MESZ 2011 is an example.

Also it seems that the force close might be triggered every time the app tries to load this file. I noticed that an initial update isn't necessary to get a fc. Restarting the app after importing the addresses has the same effect.

The redirecting page for the short URLs is trying to install some dubious java plugins. I'm not sure what your intentions are on this but if anyone is actually using a link shortener with (potentially malicious) ads he's losing all credibility IMHO.
20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Do I have connection issues or am I just too slow? on: August 02, 2011, 07:43:07 PM
Which pool are you using? No accepted shares most likely means you're not authenticated to the pool.
