21  Economy / Economics / Re: Mt.Gox Accounts and passwords released, impact to BTC econ on: June 20, 2011, 05:46:56 AM
Not bad, but what about those mining ops who have hundreds of cards? What if THEY turn to cracking?  Grin
Hail the emperor above!!!
22  Economy / Exchanges / Re: www.BitcoinExchange.cc - Western Union, MoneyGram, MoneyPalk, ACH/Wire, Dwolla on: June 20, 2011, 05:44:31 AM
SirBruce, I have done business with BitcoinExchange and although it's not always real-time, it's NOT a rip-off either. Patience is a virtue, and your Lordship should know that!
23  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Selling a good portion of my bitcoins. $17.75 a piece. Accepting paypal. on: June 20, 2011, 05:40:06 AM
PayPal has the ability to build users graphs. If you trade with someone who was involved in a trade involving bitcoins (up to three degrees of separation I think), you become part of the graph. A few trades like these and they freeze your account...
24  Economy / Economics / Re: Mt.Gox Accounts and passwords released, impact to BTC econ on: June 19, 2011, 11:01:33 PM
Oh, and expect some spam emails in the future! Maybe nigerian letters involving bitcoins?
25  Economy / Economics / Re: Mt.Gox Accounts and passwords released, impact to BTC econ on: June 19, 2011, 10:57:08 PM
Usernames and emails were released, indeed. Passwords were NOT, only the hashes.
Weak passwords can be obtained from the hashes. Strong ones - not really, it's kind of hard  Grin

My two BTcents: login to your account as soon as you can and change your password to something resembling a bitcoin address.
That should be hard enough to get from it's hash  Smiley
26  Economy / Economics / Re: Save the Coin - Kill Speculators on: June 19, 2011, 10:44:42 PM
The markets need to be free, but exchanges need to be secure!
27  Economy / Economics / Re: Volumes gone? on: June 19, 2011, 10:43:07 PM
I meant limited human resources  Wink (one guy...) maybe part of the $300k (or whatever the amount is) can be used for better security?
28  Economy / Economics / Re: Volumes gone? on: June 19, 2011, 07:33:49 PM
Well, this is sort of good news  Cheesy It proves that despite the limited resources, MagicalTux stays on top of things.
I wonder what happens to the $1000 the rightful account owner lost. Will he be reimbursed by MtGox?
29  Economy / Economics / Re: Volumes gone? on: June 19, 2011, 06:48:08 PM
Maybe Satoshi just unloaded his wallet just to see what happens?
30  Economy / Economics / Re: What is holding you from investing tons of money in this? on: June 19, 2011, 06:45:06 PM
Look at what just happened on MtGox, and you will understand why people are a bit cautious spending their life savings on bitcoins...
31  Economy / Economics / Re: Volumes gone? on: June 19, 2011, 06:39:37 PM
Well, at least we know  Grin he's working on it.
A couple more incidents like this, and both MtGox and Bitcoin will go down in flames  Cry

I wonder how much negative media coverage this incident will get tomorrow...
32  Economy / Economics / Re: Volumes gone? on: June 19, 2011, 06:30:16 PM
Maybe MagicalTux took it down to analyze the situation and prevent future issues (technical/psychological etc.)
33  Economy / Economics / Re: Volumes gone? on: June 19, 2011, 06:27:40 PM
Right now, MtGox seems to be down... Was it hacked, is there a rush on account checking or is this a DDos related to the ton of bitcoin that were unloaded earlier?
34  Economy / Economics / Re: Volumes gone? on: June 19, 2011, 06:23:46 PM
Why don't you all check your MtGox accounts and report back?
35  Economy / Economics / Re: Volumes gone? on: June 19, 2011, 06:19:58 PM
I believe MtGox should offer an explanation, even if it's something as simple as "we were not hacked, someone is just playing the market like a fiddle" :-)
36  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What Do You Think $1,000,000 USD Worth of Hashing Power Would Do? on: June 18, 2011, 05:14:47 PM
Difficulty would go up tremendously, and he will get tons of bitcoins. If he decides to sell them all at once, the price would crash and he will lose lots of money. BTW, I think a million dollars has already been spent on mining equipment. What a boon for AMD!
37  Economy / Economics / Re: Trading or mining? That is the question.. on: June 18, 2011, 05:09:53 PM
Mining is easy to do, but expensive. Profitable trading is difficult and time-consuming. There is no universal answer, it depends on personal circumstances.
38  Economy / Economics / Re: Understanding Bitcoin price fluctuation: A video guide. on: June 18, 2011, 05:03:19 PM
cool video. deserves a coin!  Smiley
39  Economy / Economics / Re: Meaningless Prediction on: June 18, 2011, 04:58:33 PM
Mining may not be very profitable now, but what about the future? If bitcoin hits $30 again, mining will be very attractive again. Anyway, more businesses accepting bitcoins is fundamental, I would love to see it happening at a faster pace...
40  Economy / Economics / Re: Looks like people setting up local bitcoin exchanges. on: June 18, 2011, 04:54:13 PM
Interesting. How can this be made safe and large-scale?
