1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / $35,000 in Bitcoin Donations Matched to Buy Pizza for Frontline Workers and Kids on: May 22, 2020, 01:59:45 PM
Happy #BitcoinPizzaDay!

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Bitcoin Pizza Day, we’re working with Slice Out Hunger and Papa John's to donate pizza to New York’s frontline workers, who are battling so bravely against Covid-19, while raising funds for No Kid Hungry, who is working to help feed the 1 in 4 kids who could face hunger this year.

We've partnered with Gemini, TaxBit and Flexa to provide support and pizzas to frontline healthcare workers and kids in need. Thanks to them, the next $35,000 in crypto donations will be matched. Help us reach our goal of $70,000 by donating to Slice Out Hunger and No Kid Hungry.

3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dementia Society Begins Accepting BTC Donations (and invested in 2016) on: July 05, 2019, 05:02:04 PM
They started taking Bitcoin donations and investing in Bitcoin in 2016 but now have expanded to also accept ETH, LTC, BCH and USDC. They were not previously actively fundraising Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies but are now working to get more plugged into the community.

Investments would be handled like any other nonprofit investment. All nonprofits have investment portfolios as a way to generate income so it would follow those same rules/laws.
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Dementia Society Begins Accepting BTC Donations (and invested in 2016) on: July 05, 2019, 03:37:45 PM
Dementia Society is taking BTC, ETH, LTC, BCH and USDC donations starting today. Their CEO also revealed they've been investing in crypto since 2016 and managed to sell close to the top before rebuying. Now they want to get more engaged with the Bitcoin community.

"To celebrate America's founding fathers and their desire for freedom and independence, the Dementia Society of America® (DSA), a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, today begins accepting a broader range of cryptocurrencies as donations to help further the critical mission of the Society."

We're working to increase adoption through charity. This is a way to "legitimize" Bitcoin to a mainstream audience when they see major organizations taking it for donations and also investing in it. Would love to hear others thoughts too though.

What will be really great is when adoption is further along and nonprofits will be able to actually hold and use the crypto donations in a transparent way. The hurdle now is that very few people accept crypto so they can't spend it many places. Hopefully this changes over the next few years.

I posted it to Reddit a week or two ago but would appreciate the help in spreading awareness and/or reposting to help them raise additional funds. Its important for the community to support organizations like this so others follow suit.

Interestingly, they've raised about 1 ETH, a couple small donations in BCH but not much in BTC, LTC or ETC. I would have expected mostly BTC and ETH.

It loads quickly for me. Took about 2-3 seconds to fully load.

The Lupus Foundation has become one of the largest nonprofits to begin accepting crypto donations (BTC, ETH, LTC, BCH, ETC) and is even evaluating blockchain pilot projects within the organization.

Let's show some support from the crypto community for this nonprofit adopting crypto!

25,000 is quite a lot.... Is there a list of what merchants this will include?
