61  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Stock market CRASHING. How will this reflect on Bitcoin on: February 26, 2020, 03:47:22 PM
We are moving into uncharted waters right now. We have never had negative interest rates, or such an overvalued stock market. Fiat currencies always revert to their true value of zero, and this will happen, but it is difficult to know when. There is an increasing awareness of the current problems, and that is leading to an increase in the vale of gold, silver and gold mining shares. I'm a bit surprised that Bitcoin hasn't gone up as well, but then many people can't understand that virtual assets can have a real value. The over-hyped Corona Virus scare is being built into the black swan event that the Deep State wants to accumulate more real assets, and to sump their toxic debt.

It is difficult to know how this will affect Bitcoin. We know that the bankers and the elite are collecting Bitcoin for investment, and we know they will be releasing their own version of cryptos. I think that this will increase the scarcity of Bitcoin, and also build demand due to increased awareness. It is difficult to know when this will happen, and there will probably be some further drops in price as the influencers increase their holdings. It looks as if it will be a great time for scalping. Geodesy is the science of studying the shape of the earth, and the shape is an oblate spheroid. That means it is squashed so that the pole to pole diameter is less than that at the equator. It is a bit of a stretch to think of this as flat though.
63  Other / Off-topic / Re: What's the longest shift you've ever worked? on: February 26, 2020, 08:28:48 AM
Sunday lunch time through until 8pm on Tuesday. I was a senior programmer working on a real time mainframe project for stock brokers, and we were getting close to going live. I had to cat nap behind the printer a few times, and I didn't get paid overtime, as I was on a monthly salary. I was called in on Sunday because the mainframe operator had put the wrong paper tape loop on the printer. That shows you how long ago it was. Smiley
64  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bad News for Bitcoiners, The price will not go up at the Halving, but DOWN$! on: February 26, 2020, 07:57:18 AM
The Bitcoin economy is maturing, and halving has already been factored into the price. Successive halving will make them less and less important in the future. The Corona Virus fake pandemic is being used as a black swan event to correct share prices, and to lose fiat debt. As part of this the price of Bitcoin is being manipulated to prepare for the new banking cryptos. It will stay volatile, and give us some good scalping runs, but the long term prospects have to be very positive - just take care on the journey, as there are a lot of pot holes, hills, and collapsed bridges to negotiate.

Well now you have got a couple of alt Merits ( gives you another sMerit), so you can find another guy to reward. It's probably best to find someone in another topic though.
66  Other / Politics & Society / Re: USA siding with EU vs UK and nazis on: February 25, 2020, 10:08:57 PM
People are constantly banging on about racism, and nationalism, but nobody ever mentions the real power split. This is the Anglophone elite. They control the EU, despite the fact that no members counties speak English. The UK is no longer a member of course, but it still controls the banking. The non-Anglophone countries are just there to be milked. Just look at the way they treated Greece.

I was called to task for accidentally posting using two accounts in the same thread within 24 hours. It would have been OK if I had posted twice using the same account, but it seems it can be misleading to use two or more accounts in a single thread. I try to avoid making this mistake again, but sometimes it is difficult if you forget who you are. Smiley
68  Other / Off-topic / Re: How do we earn BAT From brave browser on: February 25, 2020, 07:34:04 PM
You earn it by allowing them to show you their ads, and by being a verified content provider that receives donations. There is/was a limitation that you could only withdraw BAT if you are a verified publisher, but I think they plan to remove that. I need to check, as it may already have been removed.

You can also earn BAT by displaying a Brave button, and persuading people to click it to download the browser.

70  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Global Internet connection goes down and Bitcoin Network is not affected. on: February 25, 2020, 06:48:35 PM
There are several alternatives . LoRa is one that may gain popular approval. Software controlled radio is a bit limited, but it could be useful in some remote locations, but it would need an internet connection at some stage. Elon Musk is putting together a satellite system that could be used, and a couple of mobile network providers are going to be getting in on the act.

The really interesting topic will be the way all these different transport mechanisms can be integrated to avoid the creation of large numbers of orphan blocks.
71  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can bitcoin halving make cryptocurrencies reach all time high again? on: February 25, 2020, 11:39:46 AM
I believe that the halving has already been factored into the price. There are other things that will push the price of Bitcoin to a new all time high.
72  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin core reindexing on: February 25, 2020, 11:31:38 AM
It looks as if the SSD is overloaded. The Netbook went to standby, as I wasn't using it for anything other than sync'ing Bitcoin. When I restarted it, the sync report indicated that it had dropped back over a year, so obviously the disk is unhappy. It's a decent Samsung one, and it hasn't been used all that much, but it is reporting only 47Gb of free space, and it is going to use a lot more than that to get much further. I think I'll buy a new drive for the blockchain.

I like Samsung, and there is quite a lot of choice in 2Tb SSDs. I need to weigh performance, cost and reliability, and my initial decision is to get an 860 QVO internal drive, and insert it into a case for USB connection. As the drive will just be used for the Bitcoin node, price was a consideration. The QVO seems to be slightly inferior to the EVO, but this relates to disk activity. As the blockchain is incremental rather than constantly being moved and replaced, I thought that the cost saving was worth the marginal loss in performance and endurance. Models other than the QVO and EVO are more expensive, and I don't think the improvements are worth the extra costs. I decided to case the drive myself for two reasons. I may want to move it into a notebook at some stage in the future, and there is a cost saving. Transfer speeds may be faster with a factory built external drive, but I don't believe that this will be significant on low to mid spec note/net books. At the moment the netbook is running under Ubuntu, but I may replace this if the machine is going to be used mainly for crypto projects. I'll need to research that.

Any comments or advice will be received gratefully. Smiley

@kuffy
there's even a separate ranking for it Smiley

I must try harder, I'm 78th in that list. Smiley

Quite a few other forums allow multiple accounts, but they often require the declaration of the association. I believe that this should be a rule here as well. There are several members who have one account fr use with a mobile, or when travelling, and another for use with a desktop. Another handy use relates to ignore lists. Jet Cash has got quite a few members on ignore, it is useful to have a different account to review the current posting behaviour to see if they should be removed from the ignore list.
75  Other / Off-topic / Re: Why do people still smoke cigarettes? on: February 25, 2020, 10:32:41 AM
Just to reinforce the point.

It was reported that Chinese men are more likely to die from the Corona Virus than Chinese women. This was assumed to be related to their sex. In fact research revealed that 40% of Chinese men smoke, and only about 2% of Chinese women do so, Smoking helps the Corona Virus to bind to cells and multiply, and this is the reason for the increase in deaths.

As Jet Cash, I've given a few new members merits for their very first posts. I thought they were great starts for the members in the forum.
77  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin declined 3% as the coronavirus spread in italy on: February 25, 2020, 10:21:22 AM
I think it is pretty unlikely to be the direct cause. Gold and Silver are up in value, and Bitcoin should be up as well. The Corona Virus "black swan" is being used to bring down the fiat system, and a number of economies, and this will allow the central banks to accumulate assets to hold in preparation for the recovery, and the replacement monetary system. I believe that the price of Bitcoin is being kept artificially low to help them to create this new system.

I guess that the answer to your question is yes, but not for the usual reasons.
78  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Having secondary/multiple accounts purpose is..? on: February 25, 2020, 10:12:03 AM
I'm a prime culprit in this. My main account is Jet Cash, and there ase historic reasons for me starting with this, and I use this for crypto projects. I'm also active in a few other forums, and I use Kuffy on most of those. I reg'd it as an alt here to protect the identity. Talk Merit was used to support the Fit to Talk English project. Flash Cunt was used to play with TMAN, but I don't really use that much now. Baronets is my domain name holding company, and I'll probably use that to sell some crypto domain names here.

Most of the alts are of member rank or better, and Kuffy just needs a bit of activity to join that list. I like to get the accounts up to at least member rank so that I can use the signatures for various personal projects. I have never joined any signature campaigns.
79  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin core reindexing on: February 25, 2020, 08:38:17 AM

Are you pruning? If not, you're on a bit of a fool's errand trying to sync everything to a 250Gb drive!!?! Shocked

That will teach me to avoid doing my homework. The last time I used this SSD the blockchain was about 128Gb. Given that I believe you should leave at least a third of an SSD free for processing files. I probably need at least 1Tb. I've got a 2Tb HDD, but it is slower, and it needs more power, and that defeats the purpose of using the Netbook. I've also got a 1Tb SSD that I was going to use to replace the HDD in the Notebook, so that I could get rid of Windows at last. Probably the sensible thing to do is to copy the 256Gb data onto the 1Tb SSD, and carry on with that. I can then buy a 2Tb SSD for the Notebook.

Note on the current synchronisation status. I went through the correct sequence when shutting down yesterday - close core and wait for completion, eject the SSD, and then shut down Ubuntu. I've just restarted the reindexing, and it started again at 6 years and 42 weeks, that's about a year earlier than the previous day's closing point,  but it has skipped quite quickly to 5 years and 23 weeks. Thinking about the post by HCP, it looks as if the disk is short of space, and I need to switch to the 1Tb drive before going much further. I'll leave it to run for another hour or so, as I've got some other stuff to sort out. I'll probably swop drives tomorrow, and let you guys know how it goes. I've got Mint installed on the !Tb SSD, but I might reformat that before copying the Bitcoin files.

We know it messes up your lungs, and reduces libido. It also costs a fair bit of money. It messes up your skin texture as well, and you can see those middle aged women with prune lips and pasty faces. Now it appears that smoking helps the Corona Virus to bond to cells, and this makes it much harder for the immune system to fight the virus.

I just can't understand what the appeal is given all the damaging consequences.
