2  Other / Off-topic / WHERE HAS THE FOURTH ESTATE GONE? on: May 02, 2022, 11:22:21 AM
In the not-so-distant past, the press was officially called "the fourth estate, which oversaw a balanced and fair administration of society. This independent mechanism of skeptical intellectuals criticized policies, informed citizens and offered a vote of contempt against government. As history will teach us-it is necessary to keep the latter in check. This idea has recently become a stark contrast to the mainstream media, which is next to the mouthpiece, and often even the megaphone of dubious politics-not least of which has become the enemy of free speech.

The emergence of mainstream media's (financial) independence has been missed - and the profession of (investigative) journalism seems to have been replaced by the executive copywriter of a pre-chewed narrative. Despite the shortcomings of social media, the offline social fabric is now sorely needed to make the sounds different from those of the dominant discourse. The new fourth estate is the voice of society.

A critical eye is as necessary as ever, and it should be remembered that other information is often taken down purely because it is disapproved of by the mainstream.  Read carefully what (they don't) say, and think about what it implies. And don't believe them when they imply that you can't think for yourself. Speak up now, while it's still legal.

3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Fiat Will Always Be The Norm on: April 28, 2022, 06:51:06 PM
The problem with your premise is that there are countries that choose not to have a fiat currency. Many countries use USD as their currency, and USD is a hard currency to them because they have no control over it.
And what are these countries?

Something I don’t know of a single state that, being independent, used the currency of another country, even if it is the US dollar.

Hey Guys! BTC
5  Bitcoin / Electrum / Desktop wallets using 2FA. on: February 16, 2022, 04:45:22 PM
Hello.

I use Electrum at the most basic level and as far as I understand it does not have a 2FA feature and this makes me sad. It's just that my electrum is installed on two laptops at once, one of which is located in another city (my sister, who in turn lives in a hostel). And this means that from time to time she has to leave her laptop unattended. In those moments when I have several hundred dollars in my wallet, this does not bother me, but when it comes to a larger amount, I would like to be sure that my coins are safe.

Question: If a worthy replacement for Electrum but with 2FA?
6  Other / Meta / Re: Forum Time Machine - Mining bitcoin with Pentium processor on: February 16, 2022, 04:36:56 PM
i now imagine how many more blocks he would have mined if theymos had not switched off his computer again and again.
furthermore, it is a very nice anecdote from the past and you can see how the times and the requirements change Smiley

btw, i mine for fun with my usb antminer u2 Grin
What faculty did theymos study at?

Could it be that during his time in high school and his freshman year, he received such a cool education that he would become technically advanced?
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Russian Ministry wants to legalize Bitcoin mining in specific areas on: February 16, 2022, 04:30:48 PM
And if the west doesn't want to deal with Russia?
You realize right now Russia would be just like a shop accepting Visa, Paypal, Monero, and Bitcoin, they can add used panties and discarded diapers as payment options if poeple DON'T want to deal with you they will not! Simple as this!
Disconnecting Russia from SWIFT is a fiction, because after the Crimean events, Russia learned lessons and took care of import substitution of goods and services. For a state like Russia with its scientific base, creating an analogue of Swift is not a problem (especially since the Swift mechanism is not much more complicated than the mechanism of any of the messengers). I can add that SWIFT is controlled by Brussels (reading one article), which means it is not subject to the United States, since Brussels does not like it when it is used as a tool of pressure on others.

Quote
The only way to force Swift to disconnect from Russian banks is a decision of the European Parliament, approved by the Belgian authorities. And not the requirements of the United States or other countries.
Quote
Payments through SWIFT are transparent to US intelligence agencies, and the complete withdrawal of Russian international banking from the Western electronic system into an alternative shadow will make life difficult for US intelligence.
Quote
The situation is similar with payment cards. Back in 2015, the international leaders Visa and MasterCard agreed to transfer the processing and clearing of domestic payments to Russia. But if anything, Russia has its own national payment system "Peace".

HODLer.

But anyway. What kind of creature would I be with just 1 Satoshi?   Huh
I would say that you would then be a bacterium.  Grin

Since, judging by the forecasts of the guys from this thread, by the end of the year you can see bitcoin in the region of $100,000, and a year after the halving, the price may consolidate in the region of $190,000. So 1 satoshi is still not enough to be a crab.
9  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BTA.lk - Official unofficial Bitcointalk short links on: February 11, 2022, 05:45:05 PM
Can we see a green highlight for these shortened links in the foreseeable future?

Many users who communicate here on the forum rarely follow third-party links. It's sad that your service is likely to be lost on the far pages of this section, so many users will not be aware of this and, seeing a shortened link without a green highlight, will be afraid to click.
10  Other / Meta / Re: [Userscript] Unofficial Bitcointalk Reporter Badges on: January 31, 2022, 10:10:36 PM
Thanks.

Question. Installed the script, but I don't see any badges. Where should they be displayed?
Have you saved your settings?

If yes, then the icons should be displayed as shown in the picture.

11  Other / Meta / Proposal about transferring accounts (username change) on: January 30, 2022, 06:39:50 PM
Would you like to be able to request an account transfer by paying the margin and registering an account in advance with the desired name?

Main provisions:

1. The transfer of accounts is carried out by exchanging the names of two accounts with each other.
2. Passwords, ID and message history, feedback are not transferred.
3. Banned accounts are not subject to transfer (username change).
4. You can reserve and use the name of someone else's account if it has not been active for many years and is a new account with no post history.

To transfer accounts, the following conditions must be met.

1. Send PM to admin
2. Confirm ownership of the alternate account by signing the message.
3. Pay the fee (the fee must be at least 5 times

The fact is that no one in their right mind will donate 50 bitcoins to change their name, so you need to either lower the VIP barrier to 5 bitcoins or introduce this innovation. I do not remember who said, but someone already suggested making an actively updated list that would display changed UIDs.

I hope I'll be heard as this option is available on most forums.
12  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🏆 Betnomi.com - Crypto Centric 🏀Sportsbook and 🎲Casino - 🔥Biggest Jackpots on: January 30, 2022, 06:08:34 PM
There are tons of rewards for each rank, iPhone 13,  MacBooks, Custom Betnomi Branded ledger (Ledger nano X), and many other items.
Cash backs and rack backs will be available as well, the higher you rank, the higher your cash back and rake back percentage.

Now I am spoiling it all 😂
Where can you read about it? I just don't see any mention on the official site.
13  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Can't access my money because of the derivation path on: January 27, 2022, 01:19:49 AM

They never replied to me. Do you have the BTC derivation path of Coinbase? 200 $ for you if yours work.
We already tried with many derivation paths.
I'm shocked that you still haven't received your bitcoins, at least if I were you, I would, in these two years, force coinbase tech support to tell me to fuck off (give me back the coins).

He has an (inactive) account here on Bitcointalk, maybe if you have enough comment we can summon him back to the forum!
May I know the username?

16  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My 5 months newbie experience on: January 27, 2022, 12:56:02 AM
I didn't have much time to post because I have to work, although I see that I have about 24 days online. In reading threads like this I have come to the conclusion that creating too many threads and posts before you are mature enough to be part of a forum is also a mistake. But the problem is, if you don't write enough posts, you'll never get the details right.

The only thing you forgot to mention is that you should definitely make sure that you respond to each of your posts if you were quoted, as this is a matter of ethics. If you do not answer, although at the same time they asked about something and they answered you, you will be considered an ungrateful blockhead and the next time you ask everyone will sit back and watch you trample on the spot.

You can also take a look at other local sections and see what kind of discussions are going on there. for example, my favorite section is Spanish, despite the fact that I don’t understand a single word in Spanish except for greetings, but this doesn’t stop me from reading with Google translator.

It may sound strange, but I've done it several times and it works.  Smiley
17  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Good moment to buy btc or eth? on: January 24, 2022, 02:50:17 AM
Think about this guy's words, because for me this is a good reason - to distance myself from ETH.

Staking is already happening but staked ETH2s are currently locked up in validators and can't be moved. A hard fork later this year (although given how slow Ethereum development is, it might be sometime in 2024) will allow those coins to be moved. Staking started in late 2020 when ETH was like $500, there's a good chance that substantial profit-taking will happen once withdrawals from validators are allowed. Unless it goes back below $500 by then.
I will not call Bitcoin digital gold, but when choosing between two evils, it is worth choosing the lesser.

That the vaccine can be “shed” from one person to another, a claim that gained enough prominence through boosts from popular anti-vaccine activists that it prompted a Miami school to ask vaccinated teachers to keep their distance from students and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to specify shedding can only occur when a vaccine contains a “live virus,” which the approved Covid-19 vaccines don’t.
I'm sorry I don't have a hat but I can't help replying as I finished watching The Last Ship a week earlier (post-apocalyptic television series about the virus).

So the end of the first season was marked by the fact that one of the virologists came up with a way to change his DNA and place the active particle of the vaccine in the lungs so that the vaccine could spread with every breath. I'm not senile, but I think that medical technology has not gone as far as we would like, since doctors have recently learned how to transplant our sick pig hearts. Therefore, I do not believe in this conspiracy and consider it the most absurd.
19  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Good moment to buy btc or eth? on: January 22, 2022, 01:51:59 AM
You don't have to always ask for this advice every bitcoin dip.
After the penultimate fall of bitcoin, I think it was in May, I saw a cool avatar of one guy with an avatar with a non-intrusive advertisement about buying Right Now and with an indicator of % profit. I remembered this because it made me smile when I saw today's crash and I bought another $70 worth of bitcoin at $36,000, I'm poor so this is a significant amount for me. In short, I definitely choose Bitcoin over the excrement of a Russian botanist.
