601  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: CoinGator on: May 29, 2013, 08:48:54 PM

I never said they did, I posted some links to warn newbies about trusting strangers with a sketchy reversible payment system. You have a problem with warning newbies about sketchy reversible payment systems? Why would anyone who isn't a sockpuppet shill of the OP have a problem with people practicing safer transactions on the internet with complete strangers when it's been proven that there are now the following days left before we could even *begin* to trust them?

602  Economy / Speculation / Re: Liberty Reserve shutdown is a boost for Bitcoin? on: May 29, 2013, 08:11:38 PM
One aspect I hadn't thought of until just now: Many of the news reports are mentioning bitcoins in one way or another while talking about the Liberty Reserve bust. Some talk about their similarities (anonymity, worldwide transfer of funds), while others talk about their differences (bitcoin does not have a central authority to arrest and shutdown the system). But as they say, any publicity is good publicity. There are people who are either hearing about bitcoins for the first time, or heard about them a while ago and are saying "WTF, bitcoins are worth $130, ten times what they were when I read about them in 2011, I should invest now before they go up another 10x!" So we might just see a "publicity bump", with another big bubble forming very soon!

In other words, "BUY! BUY! BUY!"

All I can do is laugh when I read stuff like this.  As if regular people are falling all over themselves to be associated with something that continues to be grouped with crime, drugs, kiddie porn, human trafficking and worldwide seizures and arrests.  Any new bump is coming from more criminals, looking for a new safe haven.

Bewm. The elephant in the room of cultists. Bitcoin has a lot longer to go than WordPress accepting it. It needs a billion dollar company to see it's potential and take a huge reputational risk on it by receiving payments through it for an extended period of time. That will create the demand that drives the production that drives the interest that drives the change.

I can't believe no one has asked you yet if the reason your socks are crunchy is because they are cumsocks.

I've been typing everyone in, I don't think there is a button for it yet.

theymos, should be fairly simple to have something like this... right?  I'd say have it on their trust page, so it's easy for people to add, but not easily able to add by accident.

Yeah, I went to the trust page expecting there to be some sort of button "Trust this person", it took me a few times confusedly going back to people's trust pages and the trust setting page to finally figure out I could edit the list by typing in the box.

A "Trust" button should mean that you trust the person as far as giving them feedback, not that you want to simply display whom they trust for feedback. This "Trust" title is so misleading.

So have the button say "Trust this person's feedback" to make it clear what the button does.

Exactly, and as an earlier poster said, this "Trust" thing is kind of unnecessary when you could just lock in the opinions of people whom did transactions with you by agreeing through the forum to exchange feedback on transactions. Press a button, agree to contract between two people, optional escrow, leave feedback, done. No need to trust anyone else's potentially political bias through negative feedback.

I don't see all those characters. Here is what I see:

edit: I'll hack up this post with possible symbols, some are definitely worth considering.

Good Legend:

  • ☀ / ☯ / SQUARE BOX = considered mathematically honest, showing you the hash used to generate each game. Ive played them all enough to be a believer.
  • = PVP, Player v Player
  • ☏ / ♡ / NOTHING HERE = Responsive and or Helpful Admins (from my personal experience or several good referrals from forum members)

Bad Legend:

  • ☈ / SQUARE BOX = Questions raised regarding fairness/randomness thats waiting on admin response
  • ☠ / ☢ / SQUARE BOX = SCAM
  • = payout issue/s - removed if/when payout is resolved
  • = Non responsive admin

On one hand, I'd love to say "Don't worry, it's probably a problem on my side since my computer is Korean", but on the other hand, if it doesn't work for me, that means it won't work for everyone so maybe it shouldn't be considered defacto.  Undecided

http://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/U2600.pdf (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miscellaneous_Symbols) Note: At least on my computer, the symbols in the wiki don't all show up even though they show up on the PDF. Not sure why.

Let's pick some replacement symbols.

Someone else please take a look at any one of the gazillion unicode characters available and suggest some better ones than the ones I chose.

this is the guy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preet_Bharara

he took down LR and he will aim towards bitcoin.

1) Assuming LibertyReserve was *actively* and *knowingly* engaging in money laundering or whatever illegal activity the government wanted to drum up, then yes, I presume they deserve to be shut down for operating under the guise of a law abiding business and are easily attackable as a consequence.

2) Bitcoin though? What law is being broken by Bitcoin? Why would he 'come after' bitcoin, and much more importantly, how would he? Through the exchanges? See #1 above.

Issue 9 Get!

Just got mine in Korea too!

Jeeze... the articles and ads in here are either out-of-date or beaten to death by the community at large already... This is pretty pathetic. There's even an ad for the conference.

Which ones? (Are we talking about the Feb or March issue?)

I just received the April issue... It has ads for the conference and ads for BFL with old case designs on them.

Oh, I guess that is kind of silly for us since we're getting it in May, but I wonder if it was actually delivered to B&N in April.

Either way, I thought you were referring to the September conference, in which case I wasn't understanding the problem. Cheesy

I think chain games are ridiculous but you showed some talent and creativity by making it something exciting (what all gambling should be). I do not support your site (because all chain games are losing games) but I support your creativity as a developer. Let me know if you're ever in the neighborhood and want to make something.
616  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Request for opinions on: May 29, 2013, 10:46:38 AM
There are obviously a lot of hot topics in bitcoin right now, from Ripple vs OT, to LibertyReserve / MtGox account seizures, and this September 27th~29th in Amsterdam, Netherlands there will be a non-profit supported "Watch / Ask / Meet / Trade" convention that among other things (presentations, market trade floor) will also have panelists representing different ideas and opinions in discussion on certain topics.

Here are the topics that have been listed so far on http://theconference.eu

  • Decentralized Exchange Discussion Panel
  • Bitcoin Alternatives Discussion Panel (Alt-coins)
  • Bitcoin Development Discussion Panel
  • Wallet Security and Innovation Discussion Panel
  • Digital Currency Gambling Discussion Panel

What other panels would you like to see formed and of course whom would you want to invited in them (including the ones above)?
617  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Mattew N. Wright still passing off a scam in the past as just a "prank" on: May 29, 2013, 09:37:35 AM
I'm one of the "shareholders" of the Avalon Batch 3 he auctioned. He has 2 ordered and 1 of them is sold to people like me, in small branches, so he won't get ANY BTCs from the mining he will (I hope) do with that Avalon.
I still trust him, and this is a GREAT opportunity to prove the community that he is legit: If he pays in a weekly (as promised) schedule he is clean to me (we all make mistakes).

PS: I'll keep you all posted on this Batch 3 auction and if he pays or not. It's the best way for him to be "re-trusted" again.

Thank you KaTXi, appreciate that!

well the public has spoken, my icons suck  Cry Cry Cry

Are you happy or sad about that?  I can't tell.  Wink

So yes, I shall look into alternative icon sets, I should be able to reduce the colour tags as dooglus pointed out which will increase room for the \[img tags.

I'll do a few test updates before doing the final one shortly.

I have a paid-for imgur.com account which makes quite short image URLs if you want me to upload a bunch of icons there for you.  Unless you know of somewhere that makes shorter image URLs without going through a bunch of redirects for each one.

I vote for looking into UNICODE symbols as icons. I may remove this post later in embarrassment after having done so and not found anything suitable.
619  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Mattew N. Wright still passing off a scam in the past as just a "prank" on: May 29, 2013, 08:10:28 AM
Mattew attempted to scam and wont be long I imagine till the next scam of his.
In the 2 years I've been a major contributor to the bitcoin business community I've never scammed anyone and I don't intend to. I'm a builder. You're obviously free to judge me on my mistakes, failed businesses, or even my haircut though. Every bit of feedback helps me do a better job. Click the link in my signature for a list of mistakes you might want to judge me on some more. Smiley

If you're too busy there's apparently a website (newbiejail.org) that charges a buck to do it for you (general movement activity, doesn't post for you which I think is impossible).
