621  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread -100% Original Codebase - Over 70 Active Team Members on: April 12, 2015, 08:35:42 AM
Well I didn't see this coming.  I thought XEM had promise but this downward slide since launch is disconcerting.  I expected an initial dump but also expected a correction upward that hasn't happened.  There doesn't appear to be any kind of game plan.  Those behind this coin need to get out front and center now to rally the troops.  I'm not selling my stakes but I hate to take a loss and add another blemish to my almost spotless track record of picking coins.  And I'm getting that uneasy feeling that you get when something doesn't feel right.  So is there a plan for this coin and if so what is it?

I have a buy order at 61 on Poloniex. Care to fill it for me?

As for your questions, I don't know where you've been but if anything, NEM errs on the side of overplanning and overtesting and overthinking and overdeveloping and even, overinventing. It's actually kind of funny that you are saying "there doesn't appear to be any kind of game plan." I don't think I've run into a coin with MORE game plan since DNotes.

Are you serious?  The value plunges and you come back with an offer to buy at 1/3rd of the price when the coin launched.  Why would you even make such an absurd post.  There are many people that are wondering what the fuck is going on.  I'll take a loss and not miss a step.  Some won't be lucky enough to have the cushion to write it off.  This is crypto, months don't work.  Where have you been?  Amazing.

Show me a single project that did not have a lower value than at launch 3 weeks after launch.
And factor in that a lot more people have been given coins initially so initial dumping will take longer as many don't check btt regularly.

Hey, I'm all for XEM but it's lost two thirds of it's value since launch.  What other coins have done is irrelevant.  We're talking about XEM.  Currently the coin isn't doing good.  I haven't been posting doomsday scenarios.  In fact these are the first posts I've made and I made these only out of concern.  Is there a plan and what is it.  It's a simple question.  I don't want an argument I just want some information.

Thanks

I think we require a new moderated thread now, this thread has now become FUDer's heaven .

Go get a Grape Slurpee at 711 and chill out.

What a disgrace to cryptocurrency in general.  This is a despicable example of what the altcoin segment of cryptocurrency has become.

Crave, DASH, etc...  all just scams.  People lose their money and then their trust, setting crypto back years due to these rampant scams.  Paycoin, Ripple, NXT, all scams that benefited a few.  Crave, Dash, SDC, Cloak, and all the other worthless altcoins are the exact opposites of what people want in a cryptocurrency.  Nobody wants a scam but for some reason they keep supporting them.

Nothing but pump and dump shitcoins all of them.

Your opinion is appreciated.

Do you have some suggestions as to non "scam" altcoins please?

Thank you in advance.

Yes I have suggestions.  I haven't been following this thread .  Made profit and called it a day.  Are you a dev for the coin?

but you're probably arielbit's alter ego so buffoonery is your speciality.

hey...why the hostility?..gimme a break man..

Are people here aware that the Dashcoin (DSH) people are now calling themselves DASH too?

Who cares? Let the kids play in their sandbox... Cheesy

I care Tao (but I understand what you're inferring). With the amount of trolling here, there's already confusion over the continued existence of 'Dashcoin' but (as per my post over in that thread) they're clearly looking to leverage off this thread's enormous following (by comparison to theirs) and DASH's far great success.

Yes, they're 'kids' but they're attempting to ride this juggernaut.
True, but at the end of the day there is not a thing we can do about it. We can't stop them from posting their drivel here or there, so it's a waste of energy to try and stop them. In fact, it feeds the fire and may serve to embolden them and add to their resolve.

Let's just concentrate on what we have control over. Get the word out that we are Dash and they are Dashcoin, we have more influence, our message will naturally travel further and we will overcome these growing pains.

It pains me to see you wasting your time over there when you could be writing brilliant articles... Grin

Mmmm....true.
Roll Eyes look at you go..lol

Let it go.  It's not worth it.  They can't do anything.  Let them gloat.  It doesn't matter anymore.  Consider them irrelevant.  Time to move on and put those voices on ignore.  Stay out of their thread.  Let them have their world of Unicorns and Flowers.

Trying to restart with -checklevel=2 now. Only 1 year 13 weeks left of re-indexing on the BTC blockchain.
Hopefully going to get the blockchains done downloading and synced tonight so I can have another whack at mining!
Will post back here when I get it going again. Strange that it wouldn't allow me to launch it without a reindex/checklevel.
I had to ctrl+alt+delete the Bitcredit client when I got to crazy with my CPU priority for mining.. I would be careful doing such again.

Back up your wallet files before doing anything.

I had that happen and I deleted everything in the bitcredit directory except the wallet files and copied the torrent files over to the bitcredit directory and started with Bitcredit-Qt.exe -checklevel=2.  I found that once the blockchain data got funky it took longer than just starting with the torrent files Gabriel provided and using -checklevel=2.  I don't know why some of us had problems and others didn't.  Mine is working fine now but blocks are few and far between and the hashrate has gone up tenfold since yesterday.  Apparently the torrent file download has helped quite a few people get started mining.

Quick initialisation from torrent file
http://bitcredit-currency.org/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=517

Start the Bitcredit-Qt client from the command line with the following command (assuming that you have already installed the executables in the directory shown):
C:/bitcredit/Bitcredit-Qt.exe -checklevel=2

If you still have the torrent zip file it might be best to just start over from that after backing up your existing wallets until you get synced back up.  That's just my suggestion.

Make sure you go into the properties of the bitcredit directory and uncheck read only.  Also the torrent file is two levels deep after unzipping so you need to make sure your getting to the bitcredit/bitcredit directory where the blockchain files are or else it will download everything.  You can move it where it needs to go.

Looks like sell orders has been drilled...

This kind of juvenile nonsense is one of the reasons these altcoins will never see widespread adoption.  People won't trust their finances to a bunch of kids playing on the internet.

I would oblige but I dumped at the top of the pump.  Moving on to the next pump and dump.  It sucks but if you can't beat them then you might as well join them.  I wised up to the altcoin game long ago.  It's now just a revenue generating hobby.  None of these coins will ever see widespread adoption.  DASH, Crave, take your pick.  No real future.  Bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency that can realistically be used for purchasing anything of significance and will remain the only one for the time being.  The rest are just the rest.  All hype, buzzwords, and bitter bag holders.  That's the reality with altcoins.  Take one look at these threads.  Do you think anyone is going to take any of these coins serious?  Looks like a bunch of kiddies ranting, raving, arguing, etc... in a school yard.  I'm content to sit back and laugh while making what I can to supplement my lifestyle with things I want.  Holding on to any of these coins for too long leads to losses.  And unfortunately many are feeling those losses right now.

This ^

It's all about adoption, the average joe will not give a flying fuck about all those technical features - Bitcoin is already "magic internet money" for most users even without all those useless features.

So you are only investing in BTC?

No, I gambled a lot with alt coins but I stopped few months ago.
I just don't see any project trying to actually being wide adopted, Until few months ago adoption was targeted much more, I remember press conference of vertcoin, race car of dogecoin and other altcoins with various tricks, the target was to publish the coin into a wider crowed while now most projects just announce technical stuff or fancy useless features in order to pump the price.

I would invest in a project trying to get wide adopted or promoting bitcoin by a side service/platform thou.

I'm still doing some gambling but I take my winnings and move on.  Sure I could have doubled up on a few but I took my profits and moved on.

The thing many people don't understand like you and I is that these coins are all just internet gambling.  You'll never be able to use them for any real purpose.  They all make claims and some even deliver.  But the fact is that 99.99999% of the people on the planet don't care.  Thinking that some day these altcoins are going to be an actual form of payment for anything substantial is ludicrous.  Hanging on with the hope that they will replace bitcoin and be used for anything except speculative trading is asinine.

Having a bit of an error..

I restarted my client and tried to claim bitcoins for bitcredit..

Unfortunately the block that I found isn't appearing in my wallet now. :/

Did my 40 Bitcredit get wiped? :/

*edit: Seems I was mining on my own fork.. Wonderful.

*edit2: It appears that windows 8 is blocking my folders with the read only flag.. I can't seem to set it any other way.

Right click on the folder - Choose Properties - General  - uncheck Read Only - click Apply

Edit:

It might say read only again after you do that but the permissions should be set correctly.  I had the same issue.

YOUR NAME IS NOT DASH

GET THE FUCK OVER IT

I guess some people don't remember the LEGAL take-down of Coinye huh

If Dashcoin pushes enough of our buttons, you can bet we'll petition every exchange to delist the Dashcoin (DSH) as we own it!

Then what the fuck ya gonna do Huh?
Start your own exchange?

You truly better relax on your wording. The developer of Darkcoin or dash now, can be sued for pumping/dumping securities as evident in the instamine, also with the fact that he is/has been the sole, main, developer for a long time.

I'm sure Evan Eddufield getting sued for illegally selling securities would hurt Darkcoin immensely. So hold your horses or someone just might sue him or at least call on the SEC for action.

It's also pathetic that a developer basically stole another coin's name in what's supposed to be a decentralized space. Pretty much shows just how much centralization there is in Darkcoin/DASH.

People need to stop talking about suing and turning people in for this and that, calling the cops SEC etc...  For one thing and I know for a fact that Darkcoin started out supposedly being this great decentralized and open cryptocurrency for people that wanted to move away from traditional banking and the corruption that surrounds it.  Now it has become exactly what it started out trying not to be.  That's evolution for you.  The initial game plan was not workable and would never lead to the adoption that was wanted. I pointed that out to the Darkcoin people months ago and they wanted me tarred and feathered for blasphemy.  I was right.

This is crypto.  It's currently unregulated at this time and trying to apply trademarks and impose jurisdiction on something that resides in many locations around the world is impossible.  Let them call darkcoin Dash.  Who cares?  If I want to launch a coin called DASH I could and nobody could do a damn thing about it.  There are plenty of countries around the world to host servers, nodes, etc... outside the reach of the entities of compliance these people would use.  Basically what has happened is the initial goal of Darkcoin was always just a pipe dream.  These guys are creaming their shorts looking at the marketcap and are probably looking at the balance in their wallets numerous times a day.  A decentralized cryptocurrency?  Anonymous on top of that?  Instant transaction you say?  All just smoke and mirrors.  These guys should be commended for their business savvy and con that they have perpetrated on the crypto community.  They took the beliefs and dreams of many people and turned it into a cash cow.  I can't complain since I have benefited substantially myself but I am not buying the story line any longer and haven't for some time.  These guys as most people would do enriched themselves financially immensely.  I don't fault them for that in the least.  I do fault them for the blatant lies and intimidation that they have resorted to to stay relevant.

I would recommend that Dashcoin people just put them on ignore like they do in their thread and continue on with furthering this coin if you think it has a future.  I'm not currently planning to invest but I usually pick the underdog in any fight.  I wouldn't have even bothered to post anything but the arrogance from mangled blue just got under my skin.  It was despicable so I'll just leave it at that and wish everyone even mangled blue a happy day and good life with much joy.  There is crypto and there is the real world.  Being able to separate the two and not take things personal might be hard but you'll feel better if you do.

OK I'm done for now.  Rant over.

It is very clear to me the Darkcoin people, who so desperately want to become Dash, are very poor in business ethics.

Their behaviour is comparable to that of the big bankers. Powerplay.

A sad thing to see.

If you go back and read some of the posts from the early days of Darkcoin you'll see these same people going on about decentralization, anonymity, freedom from banks, etc...   Now that there is real money in the game they turn right into the sleazy greedy bastards that they claimed to despise.  Too funny.  Dark/DASH is one of the most centralized cryptocurrencies out there.  They sure have strayed from their original concept.  Nothing wrong with that.  It's the fact that they have the nerve to insult everyone's intelligence and pretend that Dark/DASH isn't just another instamined, centralized, monthly pump and dump orchestrated by a few is ludicrous.  They should just shut their mouths, count their money, and be happy.

People can push all the buttons they want and you can't do a damn thing.

A cryptonote exchange was already built by a user before any major exchanges implemented cryptonote trading. So it's already been done.

So lets see here, you've:

A.  Threatened legal action.
B.  Threatened to petition exchanges and have them de-list the coin.
C.  Proven that the main players behind Dark/DASH are no different than some sleazy businessman on Wall Street.
D.  Made a bunch of people laugh.

Please continue posting.  I'll be back later to read some more of your comedy.

The mining for this coin has actually been very heavy.  There were periods where the hash rate got up to 60 H/sec.  Right now the pool says it is 48.72 H/s so let’s use that.  The 16 GB server I mine on gets 0.03 H/s.  It may be more on the low end so let’s say an average computer could get 0.06 H/s.  To get 48.72 H/s there’d have to be 812 average computers mining the coin.  There are probably some people that have above average computers, and some miners that are putting a lot of power, but it shows there’s definitely a lot of interest in this coin, in terms of number of people.
I've heard there is a private miner, so I'd take these numbers with a large rock salt crystal.

From the start I promised to innovate with this coin, and I’ve already provided the only decent GUI wallet on a cryptonote coin...
Lol you can't even include a payment id with the GUI, how is it the "only decent GUI wallet on a cryptonote coin"?

Of course there is.  That's who's mining most of the coins.

Are you kidding me? I saw the code AFTER the update. I cannot look at all changes you made and I discovered many bugs. I don't know how darkcoin/dash works, sry. Read the forum about the getblocktemplate bug or the p2pool bug. Just test your copy and pasted code before releasing it. If you post further BS, I'll post some conversations between me and you.
Just make an announcement, when to update the wallet. This time point has to be at least 1 week in the future, so that it is possible to do at least some basic testing and the exchanges have time to update. I cannot update the miner all the time because of your broken updates. I simply do not have enough time to do that.
EDIT: btw. I would pay MN, but I'm tired of your broken updates and your broken promises. It's best to have a developing branch and test a release version BEFORE release.

I think is the best way to do it
The problem is that we are near 85000 ...
Are you able to fix p2pool? Otherwise it makes no sense to enforce the update. I need two days or so to update the miner.

Interesting comments, what would that prove?

Are you able to fix p2pool?

Again i do not see how that relates to a wallet update. p2pool works as it should. if we see the need we will increase the size it can handle a little more .

As for miner update, that is solely up to you as that is your domain. My area is ensuring that everyone is running the right wallet version and all aspects of the ecosystem support each other.

One could make the argument that the p2pool is part of the ecosystem.

look at the pool, no crash  Grin Grin
New work for worker! Difficulty: 0.000001 Share difficulty: 0.000022 Total block value: 50.020000 BCR including 2 transactions

Also i don't get your argument against cutting out old clients. what relevance do they have to p2pool?
Look at the screen shot I've posted. The hashrate went to zero.

yes so for one block, the pool did not hash.... how does that connect with updating the wallet and cutting off old unsupported wallets?
t
WTF? p2pool does not work if any transaction is included in a block. If you cut out the solo miners with 0.30.14, no one will include the transactions into the chain. Or an attacker will include his transactions. That was just a demonstration. One can DOS p2pool for hours.

and why can they not solo mine with 0.30.16.4?

I am solo mining with 0.30.16.4b and finding blocks
Yes, because the network accepts the blocks. But they do not pay masternodes. In the future those blocks won't be accepted (or shouldn't be accepted)

So after block 85,00 (or whatever it is) all my solo blocks will be rejected?
I guess. But bitcreditscc does no testing at all.

That's why I asked about a testnet some time ago.

Have you setup a testnet to test the functions of this coin?  I have read through the thread and didn't see any reference to one.  If not I think you should.  Thinking of taking a position in this coin but am still on the fence.
