361  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Fork at 600k? on: May 07, 2015, 07:55:00 PM
Someone should ask BW if there is a hard fork at block 600k. I suspect there is, and everyone who is running v0.9.5 will need to upgrade to v0.10 or their transactions will be on a forked chain. I see most of my peers are still running v0.9.5... I would help with windows/mac binaries but unfortunately I'm Linux only...
362  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [UNO] Unobtanium Info & Discussion - Current wallet 0.9.5 on: May 07, 2015, 12:30:27 AM
Rarer and rarer.  Hold it if you got it.

any update from cryptapus wrt android wallet?

HashEngineering wanted to see a few AUX-POW blocks appear on the chain to verify the unobtaniumj library was functioning correctly. So we are still on hold. Feel free to check out progress on their github account. If anyone is itching for a return of funds please PM me with a signed message from the origin address.

We now have 160 of our 125 UNO (at today's price) goal!

udroidNXd1YNoL1DgNu8NktemcnexiBByM

You have all pushed this over the top! As they say, many hands make light work. I am glad to see this community going the extra mile to show our new Android app dev. what their work means. Good luck to HashEngineering on this endeavor, you have a strong reward waiting for you. I will proceed to payout as stated in the first post on this topic, namely 1/2 at app launch, then 1/2 a month after, or after any showstopper bugs are squashed (whichever comes first).

By all means if you wish to continue, or didn't get a chance to donate please do. Keep in mind that devs. with skin in the game tend to stick around.

Thanks everyone for your generosity!

A quick update from HashEngineering:

More progress has been made on the Android Wallet.  The first step is to convert the Java Library namecoinj to Unobtanium.  That is the stage I am in now.  It is about 30% done.  The next stage is to fork the Namecoin Wallet app and that is 0% done.  The hardest part of the work is on the Java Library, which is the first part.

Originally the ETA was ~4 weeks and we are now beyond that, however it appears some progress has been made. Unless there are any objections I will continue to hold the bounty to be payed as discussed above. Any objections from those who have contributed to the bounty?

Regards,

Another update from HashEngineering:

Quote
It appears that merge mining is scheduled for block 600,000 -- this may be in a few days.  I would like to wait until then before I finish my testing.  Currently, I have done the first part, which is converting namecoinj to unobtaniumj, perhaps this is 70% done.  It works now as far as syncing with the blockchain as of block 595,000.

I am away on business for a few days, but can continue my work this weekend.

https://github.com/HashEngineering/unobtaniumj - This can be checked for some proof of work on my part!

im running 9.2.12 and i seem to be stuck for a few days including 2 payouts Sad

Suggestions?

You may want to try to re-index your chain. Start the client with:
Code:
myriadcoin-qt -reindex

FYI, I will be taking down my UNO services in a bit to update my node to v0.10. It should take a while, I will need to re-index my chain for some of my services to function correctly. Bets to the dice games will be honored, but may be late to process.

done, went quicker than I thought.

Wow! What a response from this awesome community!

@FK I remember Cryptapus mentioning the fork, but don't know if HashEngineering knew about it. Is that something that Hash could talk with BW about so they don't have to duplicate work?

Credit to Cryptapus for heading this up. Great job!

I am aware of the Merge Mining feature that will be activate in the future.  I will be forking my Namecoin Wallet, which supports merge mining in the validation of the blocks.

is that NMC wallet on android?

so far the 'best' ive seen is coinimi wallet but it doesnt cater for many alts thus far

Coinomi does indeed look interesting. Requires an electrum server, something to think about...

Cryptapus  - I like that you are always around! Sent 50 Unos to the android project.

Thank you, I guess you can think of it as owning 40% of the wallet Smiley A big step to help us reach our goal!

"There are problems with memory consumption and battery drain since it requires to be run in background or user will need to wait for long sync time on every run."

I use the Shildbach android Bitcoin wallet. Don't leave it open. When needed, open it; it hammers up to speed; I send -- though it can take some time to get 'full green circle' confirmation' (but I am, quite literally, probably the last Bitcoin outpost on the bottom left corner of Oz).

m

That's the trade-off for decentralization I would assume. Someone has to eat the energy to keep up with the blockchain. I've always been interested in letting block explorers do the hard work and the private keys stay with the user, hence my work with jswallet and copay. This is a bit different being an independent node.

I will say, once this is complete we will have an open implementation of unobtaniumj (unobtanium in java) which from my understanding opens quite a few development doors to other applications. But my java knowledge is not up to speed on the exact possibilities...

Charlie and Cryptapus  thank you guys!
We must have android Un wallet. Tonight when got to home I send  you Un.

"There are problems with memory consumption and battery drain since it requires to be run in background or user will need to wait for long sync time on every run.

I would agree for coins with fast block times. UNO has a 3 minute block time so it should not be so bad. I don't know if KGW will impact the speed too much, that's probably a good question for HashEngineering.

Most android wallet out there on android play store are not true decentralised wallet as far as I know, its vulnerable to server downtime and hacking attacks on centralised providers."

Not my words. But guess is a usual problems for that androids wallets ..... .??

The Schildbach bitcoin wallet (which is the code HashEngineering works from) from my understanding is a full bitcoin node, not relying on any centralized provider. Think of it as bitcoin-core completely re-written in java. Thus this UNO wallet would be decentralized and would continue to work even if HashEngineering disappeared or another hard-fork in UNO was required.

Wondering how much gonna cost iOS app? I'm  just  curious...

Unknown. I don't know of any completely open source bitcoin wallet for iOS (maybe copay?). Certainly not with the maturity of the Schildback solution.

Dedicated Android Wallet for UNO - Request funds for development

Greetings Everyone,

BitcoinCharlie and I have been off-line discussing what it would take to get an Android wallet in the Google play store. I've reached out to HashEngineering to gauge their interest in developing an android app for Unobtanium for a fee, and their response has been that a wallet would cost 1.5 BTC. Please take a look at their topic here:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=336215

My experience with HashEngineering has been through Myriad, and I can say that I am impressed with their skill, response time and dedication. I believe that they may be the best Android coin dev's out there for altcoins. Feel free to drop by their topic and ask any questions, they are nice folks. Also, if you have an android device search for them on the Play store and try out one of their wallets. The main reason I see them as being the right folks for the job are:

  • They have experience with SHA256 coins (UNO's mining algorithm)
  • They have experience with KGW difficulty (UNO's difficulty calculation)
  • They have recent experience with AUX-POW (UNO's upcoming merge-mine capability)
  • They are known developers who have been around a while, and seem to have a passion for this work (as far as I know, they did Myriad's wallet just for the challenge)

Technically, they seem to have all the pieces in place, they would just need to pull it together for UNO. They have high confidence that a wallet will take < 2 weeks of development time, and they can begin in approximately 2-3 weeks.

I am asking for donations to fund this project. We will need to gather at least 125 UNO (at today's price) to fund this project for the next year. Please consider that as a minimum, ideally it would be good to make sure a quality developer is well funded to keep their interest. I have set up an address to send funds to:

udroidNXd1YNoL1DgNu8NktemcnexiBByM

I've started the fund with what I can afford from donations to my projects. I ask you to help if you see value in this idea. If we make the goal, here is what will happen based on discussions with HashEngineering:

Quote
My payment terms work as follows:
1.  Half the payment is due when the app is published to Google Play
2.  Half the payment is due a month later after any bugs are worked out.
3.  I can take BTC or BTC equivalents (other coins).
4.  One year of updates would be included in the price.  The updates would include any coin forks, bug fixes, checkpoint updates and possibly some updates from Bitcoin Wallet (by Andreas Schildbach).

Source code and apk files are published to my github account, but I can also publish it to an additional account.  Hosting on my Google Play account is also part of the price, but if you have your own account then I can provide the apk files.

The schedule is as follows:  I can start working on this in 2-3 weeks based on my current work load.  From that point it will take less than 2 weeks to finish the app, assuming that there are no extremely difficult problems to solve.

In the event that something goes wrong, or we don't gather the required funds within 2 weeks, I will refund any coins sent to fund this project (coins will be sent back to the origin address). If half the payment is sent to HashEngineering and for whatever reason the other half does not get sent, I will refund what is left percentage wise (back to the origin address).

Credit for this idea should go to BitcoinCharlie.

Thoughts?

Well I'll toot ... great service and will work just fine in the meantime.
We will however need apps listed on PLAY and whatever the Apple App place is called in the next180 days.
...

If someone is willing to put up coin, I can recommend HashEngineering for an Android wallet:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=336215.0

Quality android dev. I have my doubts about them doing it for free, but they aren't afraid to take on a challenge (they did so with Myriad). Upcoming merge mining might be difficult, but it looks like they've been doing some work on Namecoin...

I have no suggestions for dedicated iOS though...

We are at a level were Android wallet is a must have.
http://coinomi.com/
This might be the easiest most professional solution.

thx for the link - have had a fiddle and seems ok but i dont own most of those coins.

plus i dont want to store much on something im unfamiliar with.

at the very least its open so shouldn't be long before something bigger/better arrives.

Not to toot my own horn too much, or be down on services like coinomi or a dedicated android app (I do see value in those), but we do already have an android app:

https://cryptap.us/uno/jswallet

Works well on android AND iOS devices, does not require an app install, works in the mobile browser, private key is stored as a random brainwallet URL on the device. To be honest, I would send casual users here first as it takes seconds to setup a secure wallet. If you want something with more bells and whistles, take a look at copay on your mobile device:

Mintpal funds recovered: How to claim your Myriadcoins

http://www.reddit.com/r/myriadcoin/comments/2z24mu/mintpal_funds_recovered_how_to_claim_your/

We had a technical glitch that resulted in some of the funds being lost. I have personally covered this loss by buying back the coins. The Mintpal recovery fund is now 100% funded.

Follow the instructions above to claim your funds.

This is why I continue to support this coin, quality dev that steps up to fix a mistake. Nicely done, what class. Smiley

As soon as the dice games are profitable again more coins are coming your way (although I'm sure a pittance of what you have lost).

Although, I am obliged to mention again that this entire mess would not have happened if people didn't trust random strangers on the internet to hold their money (of which I am one of). If you aren't the sole owner of the private key, they aren't your coins. You shouldn't have expected to see them again.
378  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Upgrade report on 0.10 on: March 12, 2015, 06:19:18 PM
Greetings,

I'm guessing BW is skimming this, so I thought I'd give a report on my experience with v0.10 thus far.

On Debian wheezy, compilation was straight forward:

Code:
git clone https://github.com/unobtanium-official/Unobtanium.git
cd Unobtanium/
./autogen.sh
./configure --with-incompatible-bdb
make

I ran into issues with attempting to get my insight block explorer to synchronize, but it sounds like it's a global issue with bitcoin-core 0.10 as well. It required a complete removal of the existing blockchain and a full sync using 0.10 via RPC, but I have it running on my test host now. We'll see how it holds up.

Since the default transaction fees are different in 0.10 I was having some issues getting my transactions to propagate on the network. My guess is that 0.9.5 won't relay transactions with fees so low, so until more 0.10 nodes are up and miners are on 0.10 you may need to manually raise the minimum fee for transactions.

That's what I have so far...

I've created an alternate paper wallet generator for Riecoin.

Unencrypted:

This generator also has the ability to create labels, something akin to Casascius coins:

This is not meant to replace the current paper wallet generator, just a complement. Feedback is welcome.

WTF happend on git?
Coin is using wrong ports and it is reported in help comands.
My P2Pool cant connect now.
Great job!
Code:
-port=<port>           Listen for connections on <port> (default: 8333 or testnet: 18333)
-rpcport=<port>        Listen for JSON-RPC connections on <port> (default: 8332 or testnet: 18332)

It looks like the dev (I would assume Bryce Weiner) is updating the master branch. I would have hoped a devel branch would have been started to play in, or at least a 0.9.5 tag had been set until some testing was done....

If you want the 0.9.5 branch to use temporarily, I have it in my github:
