Trading Volume != Liquidity

Hello everyone! CoinGecko is introducing "Trust Score" to combat fake exchange volume. From today onwards, we won't be sorting exchanges by reported volume but will take into account web traffic and orderbook data.  Grin

Full announcement: https://blog.coingecko.com/trust-score/

Check it out and let us know what you think!

That's right! Support your decision. You could also add some other metrics (comments, likes, and other activities in an exchange's media channels). Even if they would be fake (as could be web traffic btw) no any exchange could support fake constantly.

This is a great suggestion! This feature is coming soon actually  Smiley

Greetings,

I would just like to clarify a discrepancy that has crept into your TAG page https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/tagcoin/trading_exchanges information.  Please be advised that TAG on YoBit and XTAG on NovaExchange are one and the same coin.

Explanation of how this came to pass can be found here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5128798.0
Hi there,

Thank you for notifying us of this! We've amended this for you. We only show TAG (Yobit) and XTAG (Nova) now on our site.  Grin

Hey thanks!  The NovaExchange trading pairs are

Is AEX.plus listed on your site? It *was* known as AEX.com but they changed addresses a week ago.

TAG is traded for GAT on the AEX.plus website: [Link]

GAT in turn is traded for the following on the AEX.plus website:

  • GAT <-> BTC  - [link]
  • GAT <-> ETH  - [link]
  • GAT <-> USDT - [https://www.aex.plus/page/trade.html?mk_type=USDT&trade_coin_name=GAT]
  • GAT <-> CNC - [https://www.aex.plus/page/trade.html?mk_type=CNC&trade_coin_name=GAT]

Hey buddy! Thanks for sharing the links but we don't track AEX at the moment, only Nova and Yobit is available for TAG for now Smiley

Hi Weidex,

Yes! Our team at CoinGecko loves NFT, we issued our own NFT and giveaways during last year Christmas, 2019 New Year in collaboration with Enjin and also during the 2019 Chinese New Year. Currently we are looking into buying and helping all the NFT projects in gaining more exposure, hence we created the NFTGecko forum. Here is a list we have curated to list down all the NFT projects there are within the space, you could refer to it https://forum.nftgecko.com/t/list-of-all-non-fungible-token-projects/65

Hi

Would you be so kind, to update your section About Horizen (ZEN) ?
It says "Horizen (ZEN) is a cryptocurrency or a form of digital asset."

It should be something like this:

"Horizen (formerly ZenCash) is an incentive-driven application platform with optional zk-SNARK based privacy features that aims to provide everyone with complete control of their digital footprint. Launched in May 2017 (no ICO and no pre-mine), the platform is said to enable real-life use cases beyond the ZEN currency, including the ability to privately chat with others, publish information and go anywhere on the web with complete privacy."

https://www.horizen.global/what-is-horizen/

Thanks!

MedaR

Hi, the current description for ZEN is very elaborate and much more longer than that. Are you sure you want to update it?

Also, as noobcakes \mentioned, we're using a "fixed" description for coins. If you'd like to be able to see the non-fixed description you can pull the coin data from our API.

Thank you for your support!

Cryptokitties has definitely gained fame in the crypto space and also from the general public.
Recently cryptokitties achieved 1.5 million kitties and that is definitely not an easy feat.
There are also many other projects working on making cryptokitties a success, definitely worth keeping an eye to see how cryptokitty develops

15  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Any good Bitcoin games around? on: April 09, 2019, 04:16:42 AM
I have two nice games to recommend, however those are built on Ethereum. I can't imagine how expensive a game would be to support BTC transactions!
This RootStock sidechain seems interesting, but as far I as I was able to research there isn't any game supporting it, it's only a theory so far.

If you want to play something TODAY and you don't mind touching Ethereum, Axie Infinity (a pokemon-like collection and fighting game) and Gods Unchained (a TCG) are some high quality games which might also earn you some money if you collect and trade rare items.
Axie Infinity is planning to support LOOM soon in order to reduce the tx fees.

Yes. RootStock is still in its early steps, which means that it would take quite some time before we would be able to experience games on it. As far as Ethereum goes, it seems to be the leader in blockchain gaming nowadays. These games you've mentioned are new to me, and it's nice to know about them, since they're a great way to earn a small reward in return for playing them.

Personally, I'm a fan of Ethereum-based games, but I believe that Bitcoin-based games would be better at least in terms of security and reliability. Ethereum needs to scale to support massive blockchain gaming, which at its current state, it's not possible to attract the masses. Luckily, the Loom Network and PoA Network, have devised some unique sidechain technologies which allow games to require less fees for playing at unmatched speeds.

If game devs make use of these sidechains (either PoA or Loom's Plasmachains), then Ethereum will truly become a workhorse for blockchain gaming. As of now, there are many games available to play with such as: Axie Infinity, Gods Unchained, CryptoSouls, CryptoKitties, Blockchain Cuties, Hash Puppies, CryptoCarz, and more. On the other hand, Bitcoin would experience a whole new level of gaming with its adoption of the RootStock sidechain for mainstream smart contracts.

Nonetheless, I hope to see many more Blockchain-based games that would serve as an entry point for newcomers into cryptocurrency. It's seems to me that it's not only about Bitcoin (in terms of gaming), but also Ethereum, NEO, and other smart contract platforms for blockchain-based gaming with NFTs. Smiley

Hi, i love your thoughts on NFT. I would like to share with you that CoinGecko has just launched NFTGecko, a forum to NFT dicussions. I would be love it for you to be part of our NFT community

Are you planning to add more fiat currencies to your API? If yes, I would like to request Ukrainian Hryvnia, since Ukrainians are a significant part of crypto community (if I remember correctly, Ukraine is top 4th country by traffic on this forum).

Overall it was really great to use your API as a developer, it's very rich with features and listed coins.

On a side note, I've noticed that for some reason Bitcoin's ATH price in BTC is always equal to 1.037 BTC, is this right? I thought it should be always 1 BTC.

You brought up a good point. Yes, will take a look to see how we can add support for Ukrainian Hryvnia.
Will also check on Bitcoin's ATH issue.

Do share where you use our API later on. We love seeing what people have built using our API Smiley
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ICO makes me sick on: April 04, 2019, 06:17:08 AM
No funds no project idea makes me sick and tired of ICO ,I never like the idea right from the beginning ,why? Well to me if you are the owner of your business or company and you have struggled a lot to build it you won't dare want to let go or see it crumbled and fail,this is not present in ICO cases ,ICO is just like "oh if not much funds then I will back off and reopen another project maybe we can reach the hard cap" ,well if every developers are the ones funding there projects they will be more serious to make it a successful one,the easy safe path of backing out if hardcap is never achieved makes it feel easy for every one especially the scammers, I'm not been heartless ,if you don't have money to fund your project just don't bother ,many coins out there have no ICO ,no premine ,no bullshit with fine price per coin ,they never want any funds ,coins like masari ,Loki,haven project, dero rely on nobody fund yet they perform better than hundreds of ICO.

Totally agree, there are many projects that bootstrapped with barely any fundings. This upcoming waves of IEO from Binance and Bittrex is also another gimmick in getting the attention of the general public back into the crypto industry, but most people that been through the ICO wave have became wise.
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / NFT is an interesting space on: April 04, 2019, 06:14:11 AM
Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) has been under the radar for the longest time, other than when cryptokitties jammed the Ethereum network.

The initial impression of NFTs is just a nice to have collectible, but if you look deep enough NFT can actually lead the industry a long way.

The most interesting concept of NFT at the moment is in the traditional gaming industry, all the characters, items, skins, equipments and skills you own in one game can only be used within that game itself.
But with NFT, all these collections that you have could potentially be transferable and usable in other games as well. One significant difference is the money you spent in one game will not go to waste, while the other risk that are taken off is if the game developers does not want to support the game anymore, your collections can still be used in other games.

At the moment, gaming is the largest potential for NFT, but lets not exclude any possibilities of it being used in other industries.
