1  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: minershare.net on: February 18, 2014, 06:49:29 PM
yeah as much as i dont want to except it i am pretty sure we did Sad. well does anyone know of another site that wont scam you that has decent prices per gh?

Big warning signs include but are not limited to:

Companies accepting Bitcoin as their only payment method. They're generally either unwilling to disclose account information or don't have one as this makes it easier for the authorities to catch up with them.

Websites that demand unreasonably fast payment for example Bitcominers rushed people into panic paying within 3 hours to get such a cheap deal.

No phone number isn't a great sign and if they have one call them!

Even ask to meet in person, if you're in the same country and they're genuine it shouldn't be a problem

Also check the going rate for their product, if it's way too cheap this should ring alarm bells and warrant further investigation prior to purchase. Start small! If they're new and untested don't send your life savings, start with the smallest option to reduce the capital at risk.

Most importantly research before you buy! We see countless posts on the forums of people finding a thread about a known scam after they've purchased...

Ultimately this is the dawn of crypto currencies with people scrambling to get in before wider mainstream adoption as a way of storing wealth, sending money cheaply worldwide or buying goods online. Some unsavory characters will attempt to take advantage of this crypto gold rush which will inevitably harm it's longer term potential!

To quote the old adage 'If it looks too good to be true, it probably is...'

I've seen tonnes of these scams recently they normal use the same library picture of a data center with blue sever cabinets.

This site is very useful to search for the known scams http://bitcoinscammers.com/

If a website claims to be a 'Limited company' don't just take their word for it, check with companies house in the UK http://wck2.companieshouse.gov.uk//wcframe?name=accessCompanyInfo

We're genuine groupbitcoin.com if you're still interested in cloud mining

You are just spamming this thread with your own self-promotional crap.
2  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: How many antminer u1's on a USB channel? on: February 18, 2014, 03:10:18 PM
Hi guys, sorry if this has been covered somewhere ( I did a search and I couldn't find an answere)

How many antminer u1's can you have on a usb channel? (Assuming that the ants are on a powered hub)

The reason I ask is I am looking at my old raspberry pi, and wondering how many it can handle?

Thanks in advance Smiley

I have one of these:
http://thepihut.com/products/7-port-usb-hub-for-the-raspberry-pi

It works perfectly with a Raspberry Pi and two Antminer U1s. I haven't tried more than two.

It's powered by a 5 volt 2 amp transformer, so a maximum of 10 watts.  It might handle four Antminer U1s.

Modern SSDs have a very long lifetime, even if they're used a lot.

What is the registered address of your company, and who are the directors?

Their Twitter page hasn't been updated since 1st of Feb. https://twitter.com/MINERSHARE

There's some details here on the domain registry, but they could be false:

6  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Silicon Computers Ltd .... SCAM!! AVOID on: February 16, 2014, 09:23:44 PM
The only real UK company named Silicon Computers Limited was dissolved in 2000.

So, anyone claiming to work for a UK company of that name can only be a fraud.
7  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Just bought a 200gh Avalon ASIC - Any Tips or Tweaks needed? on: February 16, 2014, 03:34:37 AM
You're right 200 GH/s isn't quite enough for solo mining.

For Example : credit cards are much easier to carry and use than cash and offer Tx details to the client BUT slow payment verification, high (relative) commissions, very high foreign currency commissions.

Debit cards are more widely used than credit cards in the UK, and Europe.

The speed of a debit card transaction at the checkout can be very quick, depending on the shop's POS set-up.  It's pretty much instant in larger shops, but can be a bit slow in small shops.

Does the shut down happen instantly as soon as you start the miner?
10  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Best PSU for ASICMiner Blades on: February 15, 2014, 04:10:28 PM
What is the power requirement for each blade?

When choosing a PSU, look at the spec. on the manufacturer's website to make sure it provides more than enough power at the voltage needed (usually 12 volts).  Bear in mind that the total overall wattage for the PSU isn't always available on the 12 volt rail.

Don't buy a dirt cheap PSU, even if the specs. look right.

Some specs. on Corsair PSUs here:

For Bitcoins, ASICs are what you want.

Is there a reason why you are looking at a graphics card instead?
12  Economy / Economics / Re: My Thesis Work On Bitcoin - Passing Some Ideas By You on: February 15, 2014, 11:25:33 AM
I want to describe in my work the impacts bitcoin can have on the old economy.

Total value of all bitcoins is about $7.6bn right now.

That's not going to have any noticeable impact on the world's economy. In relative terms it's small beans.
13  Economy / Economics / Re: Is now a good time to buy ? on: February 15, 2014, 10:39:03 AM
Think of it in percentage profit/loss terms, rather than in $ terms.  The $ price is not so important, you make money on changes in price.

Trade frequently, buy low, sell high.

Just sell as soon as you see a worthwhile profit.

If you make some profit on most of your trades, then you are doing fine.

There's a big difference between daily highs and lows right now, and that's where the opportunity to make (or lose) money is.
