1  Economy / Gambling / Re: Dragon's Tale - the gambling MMORPG on: July 13, 2011, 08:56:31 PM
I have been playing this game for a couple months now and I'm hooked!  Absolutely love the different skill based gambling games you can play there and I have made a considerable amount of bitcoins.  If you decide to check it out look me up, I am a mentor and would love to take on some new students!  Grin

Also I would just like to add the client is extremely light on resources, especially for how good the game environment looks.  I play on my laptop while it's mining and kicking in a few extra shares.

Just came back up for me, full force!  The website went down as well, and is now back up as well.

I don't know if I mentioned this earlier but I plan to use my fan to vent the air outside.  The fan in the picture is designed to be fitted with dryer vent, it's cheap and flexible.  I plan to fab up a small cardboard vent I can close in the window and then hook it up to my fan.  It's my cheap and effective solution.

I would think humidity is an issue inside a fridge/freezer, not to mention the fridge would probably run non stop until it burns up the compressor.  I can't say i've ever tried that tho lol.

Saint Cad, if you are referring to encrypting your flash drive it can't hurt.  This will prevent anyone from accessing the wallet on the flash drive if the drive gets stolen.

I know deleting the file would leave a fingerprint behind, but I cut it from my pc and paste it back into my flash drive.  I'm honestly not sure how much of a trace this leaves, but I would have to assume less if not none?  As for your second question cypher, it is way way slow running the whole thing from a flash drive.  Finally, I have been successfull in moving the full block chain from pc to pc, but the only way I managed to do it was copying the entire bitcoin folder from my appdata.  Hope this helps  Smiley

Edit:  Just did a bit of reading up on the cut and paste, turns out the actual procedure copies and deletes the file so it is leaving the same trace as just deleting it outright.  I will have to start using a file whipe program to delete my wallet.dat from the pc.

"Undervolting" your gpu's probably won't affect the longevity of the system very much, but I don't see how it couldn't affect your hash rate in a bad way.  The key to longevity when it comes to computer hardware is to keep it on.  Power cycles wear out cards, it's better for everything to stay on all the time.  I was gonna say just keep it cool, but you already plan to do that  Grin

I run my rig inside a cooler master HAF mid tower, I thought things were good enough with the cards running around 80c.  Today I started having some serious issues with inconsistent hash rates and hardware verification errors.  Sure enough heat was the issue.  Here is my solution!

Since setting this massive 4" inline blower up in front of my case my temps have come down considerably.  GPU's are now running at 60 to 70c.  The difference it made in hash rates and accepted shares is nothing short of amazing!

Slush!  I went from lurker to member for one main reason, to thank you!  Your pool is my favorite, don't care what anyone says about it.  I've seen you on here night and day every time something goes wrong or the pool gets ddos'd.  So again, thank you thank you thank you!

One more thing I would like to mention on this.  It's pretty common sense, but make sure you allow the client to download the full block chain with an empty wallet before you move your wallet.dat onto your pc.  Less time its on a networked computer the better!

12  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: If your Mt. Gox account has been compromised, PLEASE READ. on: June 17, 2011, 05:37:15 PM
You make a good point Coinonymous.  I honestly think Mt.Gox was compromised though, and they may not even know it considering it could have happened amidst the spike in trading and ddos attack.  All of the posts here are people that lost relatively large sums of money and coins, and I have seen posts elsewhere of the same thing happening.  After reading through all of these posts and the ones i've found elsewhere it seems the only thing all of these people have in common is Mt.Gox.  Sony is a multi-billion dollar company that has been doing business for a long long time, and they were absolutely destroyed by hackers.  In comparison, Mt.Gox is a young company that probably doesn't have anywhere near the security team Sony does.  It only makes sense!

Hey guys, when you go to mine those bitcoins don't forget to bring a towel!
14  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: HOWTO: create a 100% secure wallet on: June 17, 2011, 04:46:34 PM
Hi guys! For the newbies out there that may not fully understand encrypting or all the complicated steps you guys have laid out here I have a very simple solution for 100% security.  DO NOT STORE YOUR WALLET ON ANY COMPUTER EVER!  Use a removable media to store your wallet.dat and keep it in a safe place.  At the moment I keep my wallet on two flash drives, flash drives are very convenient but are known to fail.  This is why I have two.  Whenever I need to make a transaction I plug in my flash drive and put my wallet on my pc, once I finish sending or receiving coins I move it back to the flash drive.  Hopefully soon the bitcoin client itself will have more built in security, but for the time being this is the most convenient method I can think of.  As an added bonus to this method, you can carry your wallet with you anywhere which could come in handy if you need to spend some coin on the fly!
15  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Whitelist Requests (Want out of here?) on: June 17, 2011, 03:02:40 PM
Hi, long time lurker here.  I've been mining now for about a month in Slush's pool and BTC Guild when Slush is getting DDOS'd.  That right there is there reason i'm hoping you can whitelist me.  Over the past few days poor Slush has been getting DDOS'd like crazy, and right now all I want to do is post a reply in his thread to thank him for his tireless efforts to keep his pool going.  If this isn't reason enough to get whitelisted, what are my other options?
