1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Cannacoin (CCN) | PoW->PoSV | No premine | No IPO on: July 30, 2017, 03:53:54 PM
Got the wallet assuming the v2.0.0.1-g7c31dae-beta is current
I need an example of a working conf file,  the wallet starts but no active connections

You are using the correct version, please use the node-list provided above in your config file to obtain a connection to the network.

A quick update for those new to the network or needing a list of active nodes.  Please use list below to update your cannacoin.conf to make sure you keep an active list of nodes connected at all times.  This will ensure that our network stays propagating and healthy Smiley

Second, I will be bringing back online a permanent node for Cannacoin users that will be included in the net.cpp source to make sure new users always can connect to the network.

Third, I will be updating the download links for Cannacoin 2.0.0.1 PoSV in the original post, it appears that there are some download limits being hit and we need to make sure the client is accessible at all times.

To those who are still actively hosting nodes and supporting the network, I want to say thanks!

Is there any news/update about the wallet and testnet ?
The network is really to often block/delay, and it is not a positive point for CCN
Having to wait, so long for tx sometimes is only negative for the adoption and credibility of the coin.

Looking forward for a response

I know Sub has been super busy with work, so I'll chime in. The wallet update he is working on will fix that block/delay issue and the network will run more smoothly as well. The wallet update will not happen overnight though, so give Sub some time to put everything together. There was no premine or developer fund when Cannacoin was launched, so he's pretty much working for free.

On a side note, if anyone wants to contribute time and help work on various Cannacoin projects feel free to pop in the #Cannacoin IRC channel. If anyone is good with IRC bots please PM me on bitcointalk. Thanks Smiley

Unfortunately my schedule has not allowed for much if any time dedicated to CCN. The fixes are in place and just need to be confirmed by other parties before rolling out any changes, if anyone would like to participate please find changes here: https://github.com/Cannacoin-Project/Cannacoin/tree/2.1.0.1

A quick update while I have time, still getting a testnet setup.. ran into some small hiccups but I should have things up and running soon.  I will keep everyone informed as soon as things progress, for now I've been busy with ... life.
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Cannacoin (CCN) | PoW->PoSV | No premine | No IPO on: January 15, 2016, 08:06:36 AM
I'm feeling pretty good about CCN in 2016 myself, I appreciate the new names and participation Smiley It seems the party's regrouping over here and I like it...

I'll give it a few more days and then we need to consider restarting the testnet. To make it easy I can try to handle the PoW -> PoS simulation on my own and then re-open the network once I have coins available for distribution manually and via faucets etc. Let's say... if we can't find someone by Friday I will get my hands dirty since I should have a few hours this weekend to setup the new testnet.

Side note, nice to see ya 8bit happy new year bud Smiley

It looks like a few connections have hopped onto the testnet, thanks for coming to the party Wink  Still waiting on someone to show up with a wallet with coins, if not off to new simulations we go! I hope we got some people who remember what CPU mining is like out there hahah!  Also, I realize I left out a critical component to this upgrade... ignoring old nodes. Ill put in the MIN_PEER_PROTO_VERSION change before the final production release that way we don't have any crosstalk in node versions under 2.1.0.1.

For anyone wondering about actual executable wallets for the testnet, we'll be handling simulations using linux builds which each user should be able to do themselves. Again if we find struggles here I can provide a tarball since nix is the easiest build.

Note to self: keep around a testnet wallet with coins for future testing/faucets etc Cheesy

Just a heads up, your mainnet and testnet explorers don't seem to be working.

Ill be updating the explorer to temporarily point at the testnet while we do testing. If you need you an use cryptoid for proper explorer details.

Edit:
Testnet explorer is now up temporarily at:

Announcement 1/9/16: Cannacoin testnet is live!

As promised, I have pushed changes to GitHub and started a testnet seed for version 2.1.0.1 (Fix nStakeCombineThreshold and increased nStakeSplitAge from 45 to 90 days). The current test network is the same network from our PoS transition last in 2014 so it will be important that we have a few wallets with funds availble to stake from that period. I know a few users who held large amounts of coin that would be suitable for this test and I will reach out to see if they are available to participate.  If we cannot find successful coinholders we may need to re-simulate another mined transition from PoW->PoSV->Threshold fix however I suspect there are some of you still around to help make this transition possible without that need.

The changes are minimal however it is wise to do proper testing, If things go well and the consensus is the network is updated we will begin to roll out the production changes to GitHub and release the v2.1.0.1 wallet for Mac, Win and Linux.

Links to the 2.1.0.1 Repository:
https://github.com/Cannacoin-Project/Cannacoin/tree/2.1.0.1

Testnet Details:
Seed1: 192.99.169.7
Port: 17143
RPC Port: 17142

Changelog:
- nStakeSplitAge changed from 45 to 90 days.
- nStakeCombineThreshold changed from 2000000 to 46000 (Roughly 2% currently)
- Proto version updated 2.1.0.1
- Client version updated 2.1.0.1

Let the testing begin.. if anyone is capable of Mac, Win or Unix builds we need all the help we can get!

-SubCreative

Note: Peer review is important, if you are capable please take a moment to review these changes and if you see an issue please submit a pull request!

ok, i'll check back tomorrow. thanks for the help, and quick response.

If all else fails, there's always compiling the dependencies yourself Smiley

Code:
# Build berkley db4.8
# Technically, this should only be installed if the above              #
# libdb4.8XX-dev packages failed to install but nothing beats a little #
# overkill =)                                                          #
cd ~/Downloads
if [ ! -e db-4.8.30 ]
then
   wget http://download.oracle.com/berkeley-db/db-4.8.30.tar.gz
   tar zxvf db-4.8.30.tar.gz
   rm -f db-4.8.30.tar.gz
fi

cd db-4.8.30/build_unix
../dist/configure --prefix=/usr/local --enable-cxx # If this doesn't work, try removing or changing prefix
make
sudo make install
cd ~/Downloads
rm -fr db-4.8.30/ # If it still doesn't work, try commenting out this line

locate libdb4.8-dev # Comment this out as it may cause problems

if [ $? -ne "0" ]
then
   Failed to install db-4.8.30
   exit -1

What flavor of nix are your running? Ill check the repositories to see what's available for your build.

Code:
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:    Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS
Release:        14.04
Codename:       trusty

I'm open to suggestions on distributions to try, it's a new environment and i have room to play with.

Start here:
https://github.com/Cannacoin-Project/Cannacoin/blob/Proof-of-Stake/doc/build-unix.md

In the meantime I'll check the repo to see what's up with the missing package...
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Cannacoin (CCN) | PoW->PoSV | No premine | No IPO on: January 06, 2016, 07:44:49 AM

Try this in your terminal, it should fix it.. it appears you're missing berkley db48 dependencies required to compile Cannacoin.

Code:
sudo apt-get install libdb4.8++-dev

I get this back:

Code:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package libdb4.8++-dev is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

E: Package 'libdb4.8++-dev' has no installation candidate

What flavor of nix are your running? Ill check the repositories to see what's available for your build.

I thought I had mentioned here, but I guess i lost track of the thread after been away for awhile.

The CCN faucet is back up at http://sillypothead.com/ccnfaucet/

New algorithm and look, check it out. =)

Also another note, I'm trying to compile the unix wallet on another fresh dev server, but i'm getting this error.  I'm i missing a package or something since my old wallet on the old server compiles fine.  Any help appreciated.

Code:
db.h:14:20: fatal error: db_cxx.h: No such file or directory
 #include <db_cxx.h>
                    ^
compilation terminated.
make: *** [obj/db.o] Error 1

Try this in your terminal, it should fix it.. it appears you're missing berkley db48 dependencies required to compile Cannacoin.

Code:
sudo apt-get install libdb4.8++-dev

Happy holydays.
Glad to have some good news to balance the passing of RebPhil. Very sad to ear such news, our hope and thought go to his friends and family. He for sure is "higher" then he could ever been. He seems like a great/nice person and will be remember for sure. Let's show him we can march on with our commun/shared vision.
All that seems good, I would suggest maybe also an increase in max Coin Age from 45 to 60 or even 90 days. Willing to be part of tesnet if needed also. Best

I think this is a good suggestion and a safe bet for the network at this time, I am ok with a 2x increase of the coin age to 90 days. I could only see this benefiting the network and something that can be revisited in the future. Ultimately I would like to maybe see some variable play here but for now, a fixed solution is safe.

Edit: working on getting a few nodes up and running with the changes now that I have some time to sit down for the day.

First of all Happy Holidays! I hope everyone is enjoying some well deserved time off and family time!

I would like to start a discussion surrounding the change to the nStakeCombineThreshold in wallet.cpp for the Cannacoin network.  Currently the threshold for combined stake is set to 2,000,000 coins however this should be reduced to allow for the implementation to make sense and actually work as intended.  I am proposing we experiment with the threshold set at 1-5% of the current network supply, meaning somewhere around 46,000 - 225,000 CCN which from my experience would align with the holdings of many well invested CCN supporters and help keep the network moving properly allowing for the threshold to be met by most investors staking.

For those asking "What is the nStakeCombineThreshold?", from my understanding it is the max number of coins you can combine into one input to use for staking on the CCN network.  Currently with the number set at 2,000,000 CCN this leaves an unbalanced outcome and can slow the network from creating enough input transactions or stake age to generate the next block.  By lowering the combined threshold, this will help dramatically increase the number of staking transactions which will help speed up the network, in theory Cheesy Before any implementation is made live, I will create a testnet to put this theory to the work, if anyone cares to join I need all the help I can get(users).

If anyone has a proposed change they would like to make other then the above please speak now or forever hold your peace! Changes are coming shortly after the holiday, cheers!

Is there a testnet active now? I am ready and willing to help test when the need arises.

Ill try to have a testnet up later tonight if I have some time, once I have the node available I'll post up an IP everyone can connect to. Would appreciate the extra help Rd, thanks!

I regret to inform the Cannacoin community that one of our very own, Rebphil has passed over the holiday season. I would like to take a moment to remember an amazing soul who will forever be missed within the Cannacoin and crypto community.  I will never forget the countless hours we spent communicating via voice chat, email, skype etc. testing or reviewing code changes and geeking over crypto and the what if's of the world.  I will also never forget the time we spent together visiting last year during the holiday season when he took time out of his trip to come see me for breakfast and chat like two long life buddies.  This a person who truly believed in my dreams and devoted countless hours of time and energy helping me make them a reality, oh and thanks for the pliney reb!

While Phil was a few generations older then me, I still considered him a great friend and a young spirit who could keep up with us young guys, RIP buddy you will be missed around here.  Thanks for all the tips and tricks you handed down.

Edit: I know you finally got your garden of dreams up there Wink along with the yurt of all yurts!

20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Cannacoin (CCN) | PoW->PoSV | No premine | No IPO on: December 12, 2015, 09:58:51 PM
Hi,
Is there any timeline/schedule concerning the updated wallet, with some of the fix already suggested ?

I myself would think that maybe some more tweak concerning the age/aging of coin might be also usefull, to help the network along.

NOW
Min stake age: 8 hours, 45 day max age.

MAYBE:
Min stake age: 4 hours, 90 day max age.(or maybe even up to 180 days)

And maybe would suggest also that the "suppose" Nominal stake interest: 2% annually , are I think applied only to the coin that are staking and so not the real "inflation", maybe if those 2% could be instead adjust to the staking number of coin.
Exemple:
If 50% of the coins are staking only, that (under my assomption), they get a 2% staking BUT the inflation/nbr of new coin for the year is only 1%.
So I would propose if not the case already and to help the network moving and encourage people to stake, that the 2% can stay the same BUT, if only 50% of the coins are stake they get 4% instead of the actual 2%, if only 25% is staking they get 8% ........

If anybody has more suggestion and knowledge about all that, they are welcom to contribute I would say.
And if there is also any "potential" problem or implementation with some of my suggestion, also welcome to comment/explain/share/crtitic.

Looking forward also to SubCreative response

To give the network a good push no change is needed to maturity, a simple change to the split/combine threshold is all that is called for. I would suggest 1/500th of the total supply if the # is fixed, if not integrate the code from hyperstake or another coin that allows for manual setting of the threshold.

I apologize for the late response, I have been extremely busy during the holiday season and have not had much time to be around.  I have plans to release a wallet update shortly after the new year that will adjust split threshold that RD has mentioned.  It is clear after reviewing the threshold there was some oversight and changes that need to be made in order to get the network moving properly. Other then this change to the threshold there has been no other proposed changes I feel that need to be implemented.

As always I will have changes pushed to GitHub for peer review along with a testnet setup for those who want to test the implementation. Keep posted shortly after the new year for updates along with a strategy for implementation, 2016 should be smooth sailing for our network after these updates Smiley

Cheers Cannacoiners,
Sub
