I keep an alert for Butterfly Labs on Twitter and Google Alerts; so far, most of the reports are unconfirmed. I'm definitely interested in the developments. Their telephone number (1-800-809-MINE) is always on constant voicemail. They are obviously too hard at work building miners (not).

I agree, don't spend a dime on materials (textbooks) until you've grasped the basics. There are plenty of sites out there that will teach you languages for free. I'd start with JavaScript too, since it's the logic language of the web.

Where are you located? A little difficult to know what you can do, since many jobs depend on where you live.

Online, you can try joining Fiverr and seeing if you can put your talents to good use. It's a site where, for $5, you'll perform a small service for your customers. Even half-conceived services could have a good shot at making $500 in four months.

You're young, so invest in yourself. Learn. Knowledge is one of the many things that will take you far in life.
