Economy / Trading Discussion / Unauthorized BTC Withdrawals from Bitmarket.eu Account
|
on: July 25, 2011, 02:44:22 PM
|
I recently created accounts with Dwolla and bitmarket.eu. I was excited to purchase 8 bitcoins. Moments after the purchase transaction was completed, an unauthorized withdrawal transaction was posted to my account that drained my account to a 0 balance!
I notified bitmarket.eu and did not receive a a reply.
I suspected keylogging, so I scanned & cleaned my computer using ComboFix, Malwarebytes and ESET NOD32. I then changed all my passwords and made another purchase transaction. Moments after the BTC were deposited into my account, I watched another unauthorized withdrawal transaction post that drained my account to a 0 balance!
Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

Exponential growth will require lots of political and business savvy maneuvers. There are plenty of sharks with deep pockets and huge business & political networks that can easily sabotage and kill the bitcoin revolution if it cuts into their pocketbooks.
On the other hand, what if some big hitter decides that bitcoin is a very worthwhile investment and plays *with* bitcoin instead of *against* bitcoin? Agreed. That's why it requires lots of political and business savvy maneuvers. If you don't jump on the steamroller you become part of the pavement.

From where did you lose the bitcoins: your bitmarket account or the wallet on your personal computer? There should be some dox either way as to the address the btc went to. The loss was from my bitmarket account. My account history shows a confirmed transaction for -8 BTC. I'm guessing that it's from an unauthorized withdrawal. No one else has physical access to my computer. I never shared my bitmarket password. Can this be key logging? Thank you for your assistance.

I’m unable to predict the future so I pass that task onto fortunetellers and meteorologists. As a 20+ year veteran business consultant, IMHO, if the use of bitcoins grows to the point that Paypal or large players in financial sector experience a substantial revenue reduction, conflict will begin. Financial leaders maintain lavish lifestyles though collecting their vig (e.g., transaction fees, interest, penalties). Currently, bitcoins are flying under the radar. Exponential growth will require lots of political and business savvy maneuvers. There are plenty of sharks with deep pockets and huge business & political networks that can easily sabotage and kill the bitcoin revolution if it cuts into their pocketbooks.
Greed or mismanagement from within can also cause an early demise.
Most great ideas can’t be brought to fruition. If you can’t run with the big dogs, stay on the porch.

Do I have any recourse?
I’m currently scanning my machine with ESET NODE32 Antivirus to see if I can catch something. How can I practice safe trading and prevent this problem from recurring?
