1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Best exchange/coin on: March 23, 2014, 10:27:04 PM
Hello,

I've been trading for a few weeks with little to no luck. Everything I touch seems to not be volatile until I touch it then it tanks. What exchanges/currencies are good to trade with when you first get started in the business?

If you're going to invest in someone else's mining, you might as well build a rig yourself.  Mine alt-coins and trade them for bitcoin.

That's going to be your best bet.  Grab a couple decent GPUs, and let 'er rip.

Isn't it expensive though? I mean I would love to mine, but I'm a poor college kid. Is the profitability off the mining of alt coins, in the end, worth the electric bill?

Plus the rig can't be cheap.

Your other option is to try to find a low-difficulty CPU coin.

What about these pools I keep reading about. With the low-difficulty CPU coin and a pool, would the profits be greater? Or would I be better off self mining?

Information overload! Anyways, so instead of waiting ages for faucets to get me part of something... anything even to transfer out, I decided to go ahead and buy part of a BTC from Coinbase. So here is where I get confused. To get altcoins do I need to buy them with the part of a bitcoin and then trade and then have the alt coins transferred back to BTC before I can put them in my wallet? I've searched around the forum but still confused. Can a wallet hold anything but BTC? I know there is a ton more learning going on, but it just seems like a hassle to change the BTC in and out to trade and make money as a total noob.

my brain hurts.

Hello,

I've been reading over the forum for a couple days now, so I thought I would sign up and see what I can learn. I'm a college student trying to make some money, not get rich quick, but just to help out with the whole college tuition thing. I'm currently looking for a trading platform that I feel I can trust and throw a few bucks at alt coins to learn the tricks of the trade so to speak, until I can start trading BitCoins. I read the post by chowderman about trading so I figured I would stick around and learn more. Any suggestions are welcome and I look forward to learning more and maybe making some money.
